First I'd give thanks to God by taking out my tithes and offering first!
Then I would pay off my dad's house.
Pay for my kids education and all our bills.
I'd cancel the child support debt my ex owes.
Go back to school and get my degree in HIT. Work in a hospital and own my own business so that I could help other single parents take care of their family with a decent salary.

If you won the lottery what is the first thing you would do?
I would pay off all my family and friends bills. Then I'd get out of the city and buy some land build a nice cabin, have a fully stocked fishing pond. And just enjoy the peace and quiet

sounds good! I'll build my cabin on the other side of your back 40 ..waving

I am enjoying the country life, fishing in the quiet woods right now but I would move even farther into the woods and would like to open a rescue for animals.Getting rid of all these bills would be a good thing no doubt.

Always a great question to figure out what you want from / in life.

Amazingly enough I'd buy my home (it is for sale since a month) and have it, and the garden, done up.
Get my son sussed, so he doesn't have to stress about his sh***y job anymore. And even though me and my mum aren't on speaking terms at the mo, I'd make sure she has enough to live a nice life.

Then I'd start traveling, for about a year, at least. First go to Scotland, Glastonbury (UK). Then the States, see my daughter in Kansas to begin with. Africa, back to Australia. And the Cathar area in France. Possibly Mongolia.
I'd hate the time differences, jet-lag etc. but would love to travel again!

During and after travelling I will decide what to do with the rest of my life. Whether I indeed want to start a spiritual centre, I'm quite sure I would, but most importantly: where!?

College for the kids and granddaughter first. Set Ma and Pop up for the rest of their lives. Buy as much land as I could to get Natives off shitty reservations. Move to the woods and live comfortably.

Guess I am the only one whose first stop would be a lawyer. I would open a trust or LLC to claim the prize in so no one knew who I was. Invest most of it. Keep my normal job for the next 6 months. I would then spend a year in Korea learning the language followed by traveling around the world with my wife.

Has no one else seen how things like winning the lottery turn people against you. My wife and I would rather people not know.

Going to my mom first is better than any lawyer,, as a retired financial officer,,,I trust her judgment and know she is looking out for her grandchildren's best interests,,, and she can definitely keep a secret about such a windfall,,,

That isn't what I am talking about. The winner in public knowledge. In almost no state can you claim the lottery anonymously. However, if you start an LLC or a trust the trust or LLC can claim the winning. The owners of those are not public knowledge.

Pay off a couple measly bills.
Buy a nice farm/ranch in the PNW. Purchase back my Mocha.
Set up family for life.
Donate to a few charities.
Invest in some professional photo equipment.
Travel.

I won the lottery once... I took that $1 bill and bought another lottery ticket :-/ Unfortunately, that one was not a winner of any sort...

But hey, amazing how a $1 can make one feel like a million bucks!

Pam this is a great topic. I'm interested in what other folks would do with the money. I don't have a clue what I would do with a win-fall if I was to come in to some money. I have everything I need to live a good life, I live a simple life, I'm in good health, retired, live in a farm house in the country, have a fishing pond, have horses and dogs, and family all live a comfortable life. I like all my friends and want to keep them for friends and I know the best way to lose friends is to have them indebted.

I would give the money to a cause if I really felt it would make a difference but I don't. I believe folks need to be responsible for themselves. I worked too many years with programs that gave to the needy; the more you gave them the more they expected. The world is in a mess and it is going to take more than money to fix it. But that is another subject.

I would pay off my debts. Then I would buy at least 50 acres of land and build two large two-story plantation style homes for unwanted adolescents. Males in one, females in the other. And I would see to it that they have what they need... love/nurturing, discipline, daily living necessities, education, life coach guidance, work ethic and opportunities in order to avail them of their chances to develop into well rounded and adjusted individuals who are capable of building and maintaining their own lives as adults while always having roots they can return to if need be.
