Hullo everybody

So I got my computer with my college program and it came with a year subscription to Norton antivirus. Well, the year's almost up and I'm not sure I wanna renew it. A friend of myne reccomended AVG. I'd never heard of it before but he says they have a free program that offers anti-virus protection. Just wondering if anybody here has used it or knows anything about it.

Well since I'm on AOL and I have high speed online AOL is free so I have Macfee which updates more then Norton every did for me, I had norton and it didn't seem to update to much after some time and I run into problems with them.

So far after the last few months and or more of having Macfee I have had no problems.

I normally do not trust free programs because they most likely are untrust worthly. But that's just my take on this whole thing.

No problem. I mean Mcafee always up to date or at least for me it always is updating which is more then what Norton did.

But to each his or her own on what they like.

Some free programs might work and others might not.

AVG rocks, it has caught things that Mcafee and Norton did not in the past. Make sure you don't run 2 at same time though, but overall had much success about AVG....

Yeah I hate the pre-loaded software crap they force down the throats of consumers...

Both Norton and McAfee use huge amounts of computer resources.

AVG Free is the dog's bollocks, the mutts nuts, Le balon de chien, the canine's testicles!!

I like it.laugh

At least it's not the prarie oyster too!laugh

I use AVG as well but it's constantly out-of-date. It makes no difference how often I shut down my PC, it's still the same.

Harry, you can set it so it updates itself

Although if you only have dial-up, it might take a while.

It's set up to update itself at 8 am and it does a scan at 9:20 am. It shows that it's in an error state constantly and has been that way for months now. I've tried to get it to update from the internet but it won't do that either. I have DSL and turn off my PC once in a while to see if that will do it but to no avail.

is it AVG Free 7.5?

If not, then download that from their site and then try.

It is 7.5
I had 7.0 before and I never had a single problem with it. It was great!
I might try to reinstall it tomorrow and see how that works.

If you want excellent protection pay for it...but if you can't afford it then AVG is your best choice unfortunatly.

Reading some of the reviews for antivirus would be my suggestion, then go from there. PCWorld is a great place to start.drinker

Also keep in mind everytime you put McAffe or Norton on a computer it webs its way through your hard drive.. YOU can NEVER actually get it entirely OFF your computer... it is horrible ... AVG is effective and is free.. of course you can upgrade to the paid version which is good also.. for an immediate GOOD, FREE, QUICK solution google housecall by trend micro.. its an ONLINE free virus, grayware, spyware, adware search website... Check it out....
