I have used AVG for the past 2 years and think it's great.

I also use AVG, it's very comparible to anything else, and you really don't have to do anything with it. I have it set to update automatically and it scans my computer without me telling it too. Other ones I have used were not so convienent. I really like it. I will never pay for another antivirus again, as long as this one stays free!

I use CA at work, and I think that they work about the same. I think that AVG is compatible with Vista also, and from what I've heard, vista is picky about its antiviruses.

I use it and if you look at the octobers addition of pcworld they also recomed it

AVG is flat-out awesome...it's what the state uses, too.

my computer runs much better since i've rid myself of norton. i'm also not so paranoid about the kiddies being on my computer...since AVG catches anything that they try to download.

avg is the best you can get. :)

i install the profession and network additions on client systems and computers, as well as a few other ones that are a little bit more robust than required for joe average home use :)

Wow... I guess I'm totally in the minority here: I love NAV, and have been using it for over 10 years. I have NO issues with upgradability...

The only complaint I have, is the ammount of system resources it uses.

But, viruses & spyware are a thing of the past when I use NAV.

While Norton is probably the most thorough, anti virus out there, it has several drawbacks. The first being price. at 40 a year, The biggest thing I don't like about Norton is the use of disk space. The program and it's parts collectively consume about 60 MB of space. I would caution you though, that many free programs are not effective in protecting your pc. I've heard good things about avg, I use stopzilla, which is a lil high..but minimal disc usage, And it's thorough. I also use cc cleaner, which is basically a registry cleaner, and it's free...but it doesn't find and fix all errors. What i'm trying to say is you get what you pay for. most free programs only examine files, The key is file extensions...which a lot of free programs overlook. for instance...i can run cc cleaner, and it will tell me the registry is fine...I can run reg cure (which is not free) and it will find twice as many problems, and you guessed it...all in file extensions. If you really think about it...a hundred bucks a year isn't that bad, what are we talking...8 dollars a month for a hassle free pc and piece of mind...If you've ever had to dump your pc...you know what i mean.

The biggest problem I have with anything Symantec is the fact that it never uninstalls nicely from your machine (McAfee is known for this as well), it leaves all sorts of registry entries that are no longer needed, extra files that consume disk space, etc.
NAV internet security is also another one to watch out for, a non-advanced user will more than likely end up being blocked from the internet entirely because the program will see the internet as a threat, which I guess technically it's right, but what's the use of having an internet security suite that just blocks the internet entirely?? Just disable your network card and you've accomplished the same thing for free.

Norton & McAfee are (insert random insult here!) ..they use ALOT of your systems resources. when they were 1st released (many moons ago) they were simple & ran in the background no probs... nowadays theyve chucked everything on there they possibly can (more of a selling point than useful). I've lost count the amount of PC's ive had to sort due to one of these programs conflicting/screwing up other programs etc.

My advice: dont use them... use as already mentioned AVG or Zone Alarm (pro)/Sygate pro.

I use sygate Pro & Zone Alarm Pro... never had any probs & they run smoothly with each other in the background ;)
