Well, look at it this way

If you have really good intentions and you really want to help, you don't go bragging about it, you just do it.

Sage asked me what Germany did after Katrina, so I posted a link.

I don't know whether he read it, but if he did, was there an apology for suggesting that Germany did nothing?

voileazur,

Didn't want this to turn into the hornets nest it is becoming.
No, I haven't been able to travel the world, try to read & learn, that is still the reason for this subject. Would enjoy further conversation about it all. I will send you my direct e-mail.
Guess I am a silent observer of lots of things.

that part about good intentions was meant to be edited out because it was a part of another thought but i missed it. i agree with your thought about the bragging but i fail to see anyone bragging. are you speaking of the government bragging or our citizens?

he addressed it but i don't remember the language of it.

I apologize, I over looked it.
I'm talking about the government, bragging what money they send there, and what help they give in another place, like they want to hide something behind it.
Some people on here though have taken the same stance, probably trying to avoid to talk about the things that go wrong, or just because it is in the indoctrination book.
I have made a lot of good friends here, and I'm thinking about visiting America in the far future, but as it is now, I'm really only thinking.

yeah, i know what you're saying. i don't particularly like the "kissing babies" aspect of politics and would love to see the day when enough americans don't fall for that type of presentation but i doubt i will ever see it. i also understand about the citizens but like many countries most of our citizens are proud and sometimes it is misplaced.

kindatheart, we did not singlehandedly win WW II but the fact is it would not have been won by anyone other than the Axis had we not been involved. We supplied materials to prop up England after Dunkirk before we ever became involved militarily.

Duncan says, 85% of all Americans have never been out of our own country!

Not true, for 40 some years we maintain 100's of thousands in Europe, and that was just the enlisted.

365,000 Army alone when I was there protecting Europe from communist rule! Counting families over 1 million! We didn't need passports, all we needed were military IDs. With it I traveled extensively over Europe, even dear old London!

Thousands before me, and I'm sure thousands after! Most of us liked it so much, we would count the days till we could go home.

Not just the house, but home sweet home, land of the free, and our favorite saying "THE WORLD."

Ive eaten in restaurants, traveled the trains, seen Rock concerts, attended H S graduations, traveled across the English Channel, and visited National and historical landmarks! Many of them dotted with American headstones!

Ive seen children skate on frozen ponds, drank cider, and dated women! This too, I'm sure thousands upon thousands of Americans have done! I did all this and never possessed a passport!

Garden....No one really 'won' the Second World War....

What came about was through unity amongst many nations, working together to halt opression, on many fronts....

Why do very few talk about the Pacific arena, when discussing who did what in the Second World War?

How was 'it' ended? Do we not discuss that?

Are we here in the Southern Hemisphere irrelevant, except for enhancing lifestyle, and a laid back holiday?

A knee jerk retort won't surfice either, because Japan has vast amounts of property through foreign investment here, in all the prime real estate markets, and a large proportion of Australians already speak Japanese, and Indonesian, it is taught in our schools.

So no invasions were stopped, per se, no 'You would all be speaking Japanese without us" will do.... the only differences in the scenarios, is few had to lose their lives on Australian soil to do it, Japanese, or Australian..

I have an analogy to think about in regards to 'winning' the second world war..

If a group of people were working desperately to shore up a broken dam wall...many hands working tirelssly to save the village further down the river from being flooded...many coming from all around the area...exhausted they work on and on, many are injured in this work...this trying to hold back a flood... and you and your sons, sit back and watch these efforts, maybe lending a bag of cement here and there, but basically spectating, and when you realise your house and your sons houses are in the possible flood zone, come up and help out, and through the COMBINED efforts of all, that came before you, and as well as you....stop the flood.

Do you claim you stopped the flood?

Was it you, and your sons that stooped the catastrophe awaiting the village?

Or was it all, who stopped it from happening?

i could be wrong but hadn't the european front come to just about a stalemate in most areas just before we arrived to give the final push that was needed.

We were not in the floods path and yet we lost more families and children than anyone, stopping the flood from completely washing away those who were there first! Those who stood by while the cracks in the damn grew larger and larger until they burst while they did nothing to prepare!

Why should they take any credit when their complacency's caused the flood that would have completely washed them from the valleys had it not been for us who lived on the Mt's!

Why do they act as if our sacrifices were necessary for our survival, or owed to them!

Does this new attitude from their forgetful children qualify as ungrateful?

when america showed up ww2 was almost lost. no one could stop hitler and mussalini. we provide materials the entire war that was why hitler sent his u-boats here. the french (most not all) gave paris to hitler with a golden key, people needd to study there history a little bit better before arguring about what the US did during ww2. also maybe some need to read about the atrocities the japanese did in the pacific theatre. i have no regets what we did, my dad and uncle almost died in the pacific, if you mess with the bull you will get the horn.

Fanta ... 85% of Americans dont have a passport.
It was a fact that was from Govt figures. YOUR GOVT! Thats why I quoted my source. Of course you could question your govt ... that would be a first grumble

As far as winning the war ...

Ask the Greeks who won the war and they will say they did.

If it wasnt for the fact the Italians were so bad at taking Albania and Greece, the Germans would not have had to divert forces (meant for the front in Russia) down to help the Italians.

The Greeks finally capitulated, but it took 3 months.

This delayed the German overrun of Moscow by 3 months.

No one, not even Napoleon, could take Moscow in the winter.

So victory in the war? Its all subjective.

The Americans only joined the war because the Brits were bullied into taking loans out to continue the war in Europe. Special relationship? My ar5e! Roosevelt made money out of it.

Thats why the US "Propped up the Brits after Dunkirk" Gardenforge. We had to take out high interest loans to protect ourselves

Only December 1941 and the declaration of war against the US by Hitler gave an excuse for the US to defend its allies. Only when it suited it.

Also the Russian spread of communism threatened.

Thats why 275,000 people died as a result of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (Most civilians) Not to stop the Japanese, but to stop the Russians.
