You want to know what Germany did?
Go read: http://www.germany.info/relaunch/info/archives/background/Katrina_Factsheet_Sept2005.pdf and don't come me with double standarts. All I hear is, we better fight them over there than here in America. You don't give a f**k when we have to fight it in our own country because of you, that is double standard. You forget, we are supposed to be your allies, but when it comes to actions like that we are not even asked, you just do as you please. |
invisible...you hear better fight them over there than here because it is an american saying it. it wouldn't be any different if it was a german saying it. you are absolutely correct about it being americas war and our administration did start it but it isn't ameicas fault that your country decided to get in with us. as for not giving a **** when you have to fight in your country what would you like us to do?
Well the news media doesn't put all the facts out there.
Thanks for your help with Katrina, everything is cleaned up, JOB WELL DONE. Think AMERICA was asked to come fight in Europe. |

sage, no kidding, the american indian knows all about that game, and they still are the greatest gurrilla fighter born!

As for getting "in" with you, after the war we hadn't much choice.
And Germany has always spoken against the war in Iraq, and for that we get punished now by chasing terrorists that are solely after Americans. |
Just imagine these planned bombs had gone off, in the middle of the city.
And what would have happened, your President would have told the Germans that they had not been vigilant enough, that they didn't protect the Americans properly. |
Andrea, I respect you, but can't agree with you.
If there were no Americans there, terrorists would still try to do there thing. |
i don't understand how you didn't have much choice?
i can understand your feelings about your country being involved with the war invisible but ultimately your government made the choice.

Garden, have you ever read any history or just propaganda?
You and many others make it sond like the US single handedly won WW2. Does any of the "literature" that you read ever mention the MANY other countries that were involved? Canada, France, England, Australia, Belgium, Russia, etc...... Russia had as big an effect on the outcome as the US did but that's rarely mentioned because relations became somewhat strained shortly after it was all over. If I remember right there was a race to Berlin towards the end. The US could have easily ignored what was going on in Europe and did for a long time but there was money to be made. Do you know what year it was that England finally finished paying off their debt to Uncle Sam from WW2? Europe was stretched pretty thin before the US agreed to step in. Unlike many other countries across the globe that volunteered immediately. Yup, blissfully ignorant and waving the flag shouting "We're the best!!!". That image is portrayed all too often and a lot of people don't appreciate it. Why is it that all too many Americans have no clue what is outside their borders? State or country? Off the continent? What happened throughout the history of THE WORLD? What do they teach in US schools? Sounds a bit like communism to me. Thankfully I've had the opprtunity to travel in the US for months and months on several different trips. I found a beautifully diverse landscape with wonderful people everywhere. Luckily only one "Ugly American" sticks out in my mind and that was a tourist in Hawaii. The rest were great and very welcoming from Philly to Vegas, Mississippi to Washington. I couldn't have asked to meet nicer people. The one thing that really stuck out though was that quite a few didn't have a clue where I was from and didn't know anything about their surrounding states or any history other than American history. I bought a number of cars in Oklahoma and I was asked by an "educated" young man in his 20's how I was going to get these across the ocean back to Canada!!!! I found that so profound and sad that I was speechless. Usually takes a pretty woman to do that! Not here to bash the US. Canada has very similar issues and corrupt and useless politicians filling their own pockets just like you do. We're very much akin in many aspects of life. The biggest differences being that we celebrate our multiculturism and don't try to stick our flag into the posterior of our neighbours. The US economy is a hungry machine that needs constant feeding and the policy makers have to remember that boarding school manners are not acceptable behavior. Bullying others only breeds contempt whether it's politically, economically or with military might. It's no wonder American tourists have a hard time travelling in some places. Who do you send out as emmisaries and statesmen. Big business, politicians with agendas or the military. Friendly bunch! It's not all about winning! We're all on this planet together and it's about time we started to at least try to play fair and get along. Stop the "US vs. Them" mentality. |

Sage,
"... I am just wondering, we have people from all over the world on this site." Not quite: overwhelmingly crowded with US citizens, and almost exclusively US perspectives on most every topics. "... Lots of the members here have opinions about how our politics, military, ecology, etc. should be handled. Plenty of ideas on how wrong we are." The 'Lots of members (implying from other countries)', is a huge and unsubstantiated exageration. There are only a handful of exceptions, of which I am, from other countries, offering different perspectives on US exclusive takes on just about every topics discussed on this forum. This is the World Wide Web, and you haven't heard any of us; other citizens of the world, complain that none of you US citizens have ever cared to invite us to bring up a topic from our own perspective. If you are interested Sage, I'll be happy to address your questions, but in the meantime the 'foreigners' simply chose to play along with the 'big guy's exclusive perspective'. NO COMPLAINTS from us, and yet, ... YOU FIND A WAY TO COMPLAIN THAT WE SHOULD SAY ONLY WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR? '...What about your own countries? Are they perfect?' Of course not!!! But do YOU REALLY care to spend 10 minutes of your US time discussing the uncertain faith of the 7 million 'french speaking' population of the Province of Québec, in the middle of this 350 million North American Ocean, from THEIR PERSPECTIVE!!! How about some of our own Canadian or Québec made political and corruption scandals?!?!? Or maybe you would prefer discussing the 'DARFOUR' situation, or the 'DOHA rounds' strictly from THE DARFOUR or third world country perspectives?!?!? What this forum demonstrates is that the majority of US citizens more often than not, are exclusively interested in the US perspective of things. We don't complain. But please don't play victim because we don't always agree with your own exclusive US perspective. It's an 'open minded', 'free speech', DEBATING forum: pros and CONS of every topic. Please don't complain because you don't like some of the 'CON' arguments!!! '... Have you ever been here & really seen the US, experienced this country as it really is? If we are so bad, why are so many willing to come here to live?' Providing counter arguments to a particular perspective, even if it is a US perspective, isn't in any shape or form to be interpreted as ANTI-AMERICAN!!! It is simply a counter argument! A different perspective! Not a disease!!! Several US participants are critical of US positions and policies. That's good and constructive. When you ask: '... Have you ever been here & really seen the US, experienced this country as it really is?', ... OF COURSE we have been there!!! Most of us!!! How do you expect the people of a country of 30 million, right next door to this giant of 300 million, not realize in their every day experience, the reality of the giant next door. We work with Americans, We play with Americans, We even fall in love, and make babies with some of them. Our biggest challenge is not to know more about the US, it is rather to make every effort to remember that we are of a distinct nation !!! How about you Sage??? How about your travels to gain insight into other nations? India, Europe, China, South America, South East Asia, Middle-East, AFRICA ??? Learnig and appreciating THEIR perspective of the world??? '... I hope this can be a real conversation, because I am very serious.' I respect your interest. I respect your being authentic and serious about this discussion. IMO it is all about perspectives. Even within the US, there are countless numbers of perspectives. Why should you expect anything different from the rest of the world. The US being what it is, impacts the lives of people of many nations. Of course we will have something to say about how US positions impact OUR realities. When the Twins Towers get hit in Manhattan, and the US understandably seeks ways to retaliate, the whole world gets sucked into the conflict. THAT'S REALITY!!! That's OUR SHARED GLOBAL REALITY!!! I don't complain about other's perspectives. I agree and add my 2 cents worth, or counter argue in the my best possible debating form. A particular US perspective of things such as your own Sage, is perfectly legitimate, but it is by no means THE ultimate perspective. There are lots of perspectives out there with which yours need to coexist. These potential 'open-minded', 'perspective enhancement' forums, among other means, are the perfect space to travel, without any danger, throughout the world of infinite living and breathing perspectives, ... if we are up to it!!! |

Sage....At the moment, I think alot of people hate the USA only for its president. I don't really think it has anything to do with the general population.
That being said, there are things wrong with every country....I do not live in a perfect world. But for people who have travelled extensively we do see the differences and the sameness with each culture and country we experience. When I lived in California I loved it....and hated some things too....I couldnt find certain things that "I" was used to...and this was my fault for not accepting certain things. If it werent for stupid immigration laws and the medical system I would be living there right now. |

voileazur, i welcome your opinions(you always bring an interesting and well thought out point of view)as well as anyone else who would like to offer their perspective on things. i would also like to say that these forums are as much as yours as they are anyone elses and even though i appreciate the people from other countries courteous behavior on the issue of what subjects to post i would encourage everyone to post anything that interests them. sorry for my lack of manners but i view this as a world site and not just a U.S. site. i look forward as always to all of your perspectives.

loved the whole statement voileazur but if more people could open their selves up to this part of your statement i think the human race would have a better chance.

As I said, I don't hate America, but I have seen the impact it is making on other Countries, and this one was hitting too close to home to be ignored or just swept under the carpet.
I'm not saying that I live in a perfect world either, corruption is everywhere in some form or other. But most Countries just don't care about playing themselves in the foreground like the US is so apt in doing. |

Kingbreeze,
Appreciate your generous attitude and openmindedness! |

i agree with your last post invisible but i do want to point out that even with pure intentions when you put yourself in the foreground, to help as well as for selfish reasons; you often open the door for criticism.
