Oh! Gotcha, nu2topcat. Sorry for misinterpreting your earlier post!flowerforyou

I think you make a point with all the military power the U.S. uses. It's all crazy politics. I mean, I think a big reason the U.S. actually puts so much money into the military and helping out other countries is because we want to keep our status as the 'big guy to be reckoned' with.

Aren't we the big guy?
Do people forget all the foreign aid & good samaritan things we do?
Are we the big guy with technology & education?

Yes, we have a lot to improve. When complaining about the US, are the good deeds forgotten?

Why do we help out so much when we've got our own domestic issues to deal with? Shouldn't we focus more on our own nation before we impose/aid other ones?

I'm just throwing this out there for the sake of a good debate.

Sage let me ask you something....many posters here have expressed a desire to come to Australia, they love Australia....

WHY?

It has me baffled...how are we veiwed, what is that they want from Australia, as in experiences..

Why is the US so great? Not Great?

Why do many posters hide behind the second world war, when this was 52 years ago, after Hiroshima was devastated?

What about now? The new millenium?

What education, what technology?

I honestly dont know...most of ours is Korean, and Japanese...with general production stuff imported from China, and other asian countries.

Sage,

"We inflict our beliefs?" Yes and I will explain.

They see freedom based on right for the individual.

Our citizens travel the planet that’s clearly shows we are a good people.

We lead the world with a kind of freedom that humanity has never seen before.

Our soldiers have always been great ambassadors as they fight for freedom our and alot of the times their's.

We are the first to help the world showing them that we are a caring and kind nation.

We lead the world in capitalistic fashion that bombards the world with products, media and so called entertainment,

We believe as a nation that our country is the best and as the last world power and we make that known and have the power to do so. Rather we are inflicting our beliefs passively or aggressively we encouraging many to want to be here.

I hope that explains it.

As always, Sage You impress me and earn my respect.
As far as All the bashers...

This is the greatest Nation to bless the Earth. If you believe that spreading the glory of liberty and democracy across the world is an imposition, Shame on you. Like Colin Powell said,(Not the exact quote)In all the wars that we fought in, The opnly land we've taken was to bury our honored dead.
I'm sick of people defending the animals that would behead them if they exercised their freedopm of speech on their land.

iron, agree with your ideas, I just don't see it as being
"INFLICTED" on other countries. We are usually invited.

Jess, many of the people I know that have been to your country, say it reminds them of the US 20 - 30 yrs ago. Life seems simpler over there. Lots of open space, somethingthat is disappearing here.
LOts of education & technology has come from this country & been used for the betterment of the world.
Yes, unfortunately we are an many of our people are arragant & rude (as in Ugly American). But that is the exception not the norm of this country
You say your politics are a mess also; we're even.
Military, yours ranks right with ours & maybe better.

Yes I want to visit your country & 30 yrs ago almost moved there. Your govt had a program, wanting technical people to teach.

Hey Jesse-san,

I think a lot of people desire to go to AU because of the lifestyle we think you've got. You guys have tons of things to do, great natural wonders, and just a generally fun attitude about life. I'm not so sure I think much about AU politics when I think about wanting to go to AU. ohwell

Isn't that a little interesting Baygal? When you think about it....

We have so much access to US politics, and US cultural challenges, through the media in all it's forms....

and yet it is not a reciprocal thing..

Australia is so far down the gurgler, economically on the brink of an uh oh recession....environmentally collapsing in places before our eyes, droughts, and the living on edge waiting for rain,....vast tracts of the coral reefs bleaching...the Great Barrier Reef will have to be known as The Once Great Barrier Reef in my grandchildrens time..

many other examples...and yet most that express a desire to come here, are wanting what the media sells to them.

Media drives the knowledge of everything anymore.
Truth doesn't matter to them.

Please dont get me wrong...I love this country...in all its shades...the land...I love...and yes the personal freedom of space..the laid back attitude of the general masses...(away from the inner cities)

But it's a knife edge being 'laid back'....it's not very far to fall into apathy..

I've always thought that us Yanks were alot like the Aussies. We love life and want to have a good time.

I've always enjoyed the Aussie style.

Good point...and a question...not from the hearts of everyday Americans...but please...from a political perspective...Is it generosity or Agenda?

IS American politics...and come on guys, they make the decisions, no matter what your senitments personally...

Is it agenda based aid or generosity based aid?

Adn another thought...when offering assistance to someone...do you send them a bill?

Is it assistance or a loan?

They are different..
