Topic: Why do men want to chat straight away?

I can understand...But,as a guy...I gotta point out something...

How in the hell is a guy supposed to just automatically know that a woman don't wanna chat?

Because you make this clear when he asks. And then he gets awkward.

Believe me...I ain't saying this to be combative...

People's version of "clear"...is a whole lot clearer in their heads than in actual reality.

I do it...trying to drop hints in an inoffensive way so as to not hurt the feelings of the gal I got no interest in...

In my head...what I mean is pretty clear.

How my words are perceived...not so clear.

It is just the nature of the beast when dealing with random social interaction.

Let's face it...If we could get what we want, when we want it,exactly how we want it...we would just go order our lovers at a McDonald's drive thru.

maybe to see if you are real, or if you can actually hold a normal conversation. Conversations through messaging can 'seem' to flow very smoothly even for those with little to no conversational skills, however, when you are chatting it is closer to a real conversation, and the awkward pauses seem to present themselves much sooner.

With messaging someone has days, sometimes maybe even weeks to hone their response and present the 'best' side of them. With chatting they have to don't have that luxury and it is easier to get to know what the person on the other end is really like.

If someone is avoiding chatting I normally assume for it is for a sinister reason,i.e she's married and lives with her husband and can't be caught in the middle of something, messaging allows her the freedom to avoid that.

My question then becomes if she doesn't want to chat, after a few messages why is it? she may say time, but it makes me think of a host of other possibilities, maybe she's not a she, maybe before 'she' can answer a question 'she' has do some research or ask a female friend so 'she' knows how to respond, so many possible scenarios..

Typing is not a skill most men have. It's just easier for some men to chat than to type. Plus, if a woman is a stickler for spelling and grammar, than a man who has limited typing skills is really in for a challenge. I guarantee I guarantee that most men would rather talk than type

Maybe I read it wrong, but I got the idea that chatting meant IMing, not a phone call, since she said it wasn't any different than a phone call.

Anyway, I prefer to chat a bit before moving to a phone call to see if we actually have anything to talk about.

Also, I would not generalize about most men not being able to type. Most I know do type well and I'm always surprised when people still have trouble with typing. It's not gender specific, though.

I have found that there are a huge amount of scammers out there; they want to get your email address and get you off the site, so that they can tell you how much they already love you and then try to scam you out of money. Have reported several already and their accounts have been deactivated. Sometimes after their accounts have been deactivated, they have the gall to use the same picture (hoping no one will notice) and post a totally different profile using a different city clear across the country. If you allow them to give you their email address you can easily check their email address which will give you the IP address where the email is actually being sent from. Then report them and block them. If you keep the conversation going, they will sweet talk you until you send them some money for whatever fake emergency they tell you they are having.

Maybe its not chatting but the amount of it right away.if you spend hours on long drawn out topics it might seem to much for some people .personally I like light conversation first as you get to know the person.and an occasional hi I was just thinking about you during the day is a nice gesture .says I'm interested

you could be right about her meaning chatting as iming, but the word talk in her sentence lead me to believe she didn't mean iming

I don't really understand why most men want to chat after exchanging 1 or 2 messages?
Not just here, on most dating sites. I don't like chatting, maybe if there's a real click in the messages, conversation going smooth, is catchy and fun. Then I will be inclined to talk to someone.

most men can't type. you are looking at men that you know, which is a very small percentage of men. most men have jobs that do not require them to type. if you were to venture out of the zone of men you know, i guarantee i guarantee you will find way more men that can't type. (i'm not referring to using a cellular telephone to text message as typing)

There are tons of men out there who work at jobs that require them to use computers and be able to type. So, I think it's a broad generalization to say that men can't type. Even if these men didn't have jobs that required them to know how to type, it's easy enough to learn. If someone is going to use a dating site, common sense would say to learn to type.

Now, I'm not saying most men do or do not know how to type. I don't know the statistics. I do find it to be a lame excuse to say they can't type when using a site like this, as a means of getting someone to talk on the phone, though.

The thing is, dating sites are full of women that will do nothing apart from exchanging endless aimless emails. That's one problem. Another problem with it that I've found is that they get hooked on what is really only a fantasy and they like getting your messages and don't want that to be over if you move it beyond that to having a proper chat or an actual date and it doesn't work out.

When I first tried internet dating I got nothing out of it apart from emails, so when I decided to give it another go last year I did it differently and just tried to cut to the chase as soon as possible with them. That way you find out pretty quickly who the time wasters are and who is actually on here for dating.

Always looking for an argument, huh, ese? laugh

Ok, there are many, many, many men out there who cannot type. There you go.

I live in the US and I am not looking to meet someone out of this country, so I was speaking from my own experiences. Even those I know outside of the country do get by when they have to type. But yes, I'm sure you are correct that there are many men throughout the entire world that cannot/will not/do not type well.

I work on a computer all day long and I type with two fingers. Two fingers! I've taken two different typing classes in my youth and passed both if them, only because I was a jock. Just sayin....

So what you're saying is you're too lazy to learn to type correctly? I mean, if you use a computer all day for work, you have to really try not to learn to type.

No, what I'm saying is that I'm so damned good at what I do, there is no need to type correctly. That is what my secretary is for. Oh, I'm sorry, my "personal assistant"! Lol ;-)
