I got a big problem: my laptop that held all my information, important documents, manuscripts and stuff I created was completely wiped clean off the screen over a month ago in late June. I can't get the screen to turn on normally and basically my hardrive isn't functioning at all.

My files all my information are still in there and there's a chance I could still salvage the remainder of what is left. I can't take it to a corporate store because they'll rob me and it won't work. I need the hardrive saved and personally fixed by someone who knows computers really well.

Can anyone here direct me to someone who could save my hardrive?

well, you have a few options. either you could get data retrieval equipment, and DIY, or you can get a low cut shirt, goto a place thqt has magic night (the card game), ask around a bit on how to play, which WILL result in you getting free cards, then offer to give them to any geek who plays magic&knows about computers. the first option will probabley work best, because there isn't too much required, although the data retrieval software may take a while.

I think its too late at this point to save it all. I just researched the estimate and its out of the question.
I don't think it can be fixed now. I have to put up with a crappy old school laptop that never holds a wireless signal longer than 5 minutes. To be it frank Im fuct. Thanks anyway. :)

This is a little crazy, but it worked for a friend. They connected the laptop to a TV with a cable they got from Fry's Electronics. At that point, the video then streamed to the TV and the TV did show the picture even though the laptop did not. I don't know if it will help, but I mean hell, for a cable that is normally under $10 for the cheap knock off brand, it might at least get you to be able to see what is on the screen.

You could try a hyperlink and might be able to transfer data that way if the hard drive is not badly damaged.

In the future use a external hard drive and refresh it once a month with your data as a backup. I run a RAID 0 on my desktop system and use one of my hard drives for a backup only in that same fashion encase my main crashes.

What's your primary concern
If its data then take out the hard disk and put in other computer and access all data
If the disk is bad even then u could recover part of data
I've techie friends everywhere who would do it for free

It kind of depends on the situation... not sure exactly what the problem is BUT you can take the HDD out of the laptop (usually on the side... looks like a small dvd/cd drive and requires you to press a button to pop it out) also you can salvage data from certain screens similar to DOS... does require someone who knows wat they're doing.

I don't know if you mean the screen is blank, or if the harddrive actually failed, those two can be independent of each other...even in a laptop.

Can you post the model of your laptop I may be able to help with a little research.

Is not too late when HD fails you always have a second chance to recover your files i do it myself all the time. It requieres the removal of your hard drive you could get this in tigerdirect Ultra USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive with Power Adapter, and do it yourself is easy.

Im going with the screen blank approach.. did you try hooking up an external screen??
Then we know for sure where you're headed.
Also as was mentioned removal of HD and tested in another system. Good luck

I would connect the hard drive to another machine as a slave, and then recover the data using a *nix distro.

the porgram saving agency can do so, but only count on how badly your haddrive was broken. if the central memory logic component was dead out then your files were dead out too....means no harm......seriours.....drinker

You could buy or borrow an external usb hard drive and put your laptop hard drive in there and see if you can see yr files. If the files aren't there you can still get software to retrive the data. I believe there is free software to scan and retrieve. It's not that hard. Or as suggested- drop the hard drive in another computer and try to access.
