If its data then take out the hard disk and put in other computer and access all data
If the disk is bad even then u could recover part of data

What do u mean by 'genuine' guy? May be you are too heavily focused on yourself. I don't know. If someone says what he wants and that's really what he wants theni it's genuine. You have to make it easy for him to be honest and not lead them to say what you want /wish them to say.
