IMPROPER DRESS – I've been thinking about the subject, I had someone tell me it was one of their pet peeves, I'm interested in your opinion, what you consider to be improper dress. It appears these days anything goes with young and old.

Strict dress code was something I grew up with but I am much more relaxed these days but still dress accordingly, depending on the situation, and it also depends on who I'm with.

In my day, in public when I was growing up guys wore slacks, shirt, a belt and dress shoes, gals wore a dress, or skirt and blouse, no one wore sneakers. No one would dream of wearing pj's to the store, or their pants below their crack line.

I attented private school, so we always wore smart clothing. I like to always dress smartly even now. laugh. I like to look my best at ALL times. Inherited from my late aunt no doubt.

Times and styles change. It is the nature of things. My big beef is young girls dressing like hookers. Children should not dress in sexually Provocative ways. I don't know how this got started and it appears to have no end in sight, but it is shameful.

I would never go for the scruffy look. It just isn't me. We're all different. My aunt would never be seen dead in casual clothes. She would be so obssesive about it.

There have always been different levels of attire. A construction worker has always worn different clothes than a banker or a solder. This is because clothes do more than cover our nakedness. They also serve functions and each style can look good in it's own way if the fit is right.

In my job (truck driver) I have to feel comfortable sitting for many hours a day as well as be able to climb up into the cab of my truck. So, I buy my clothes with that in mind. I wouldn't be comfortable in a three piece suit and tie. So, I wear denim or khaki pants with cotton T-shirts and have a leather jacket near by for cold and rainy days.

My shoes must be easy to clean, give me a sure footing on greasy surfaces and again be comfortable while I'm driving. A soft moccasin does the trick most of the time. But I do keep a pair of boot handy just in case.

I keep my colors simple so everything I wear matches with everything else.

So, I think it's not so much about what a person wears, but about how they wear it that makes it look good or bad.

I wonder the same Joe...As a mom who raised a daughter, I try to consider this from a parents view and honestly cannot come up with one valid reason why they would allow their daughters to dress provocatively at such a tender age....The only thing I ever got close to as a reason was peer pressure as kids want to "fit in" but then I ask, "Fit in where and why?"...sad2

Underage girls dressed like hookers attract a very bad class of attention and (I don't know the statistics) but are sure to get into trouble they can't get out of. I suspect they don't tend to get a lot of respect from men either. This is not a good way to start out adult life.

Adults have been biotching about youths attire since the days of the
toga. And it seems they haven't stopped yet.

Improper dress for what? Life? Something specific?

I agree. it's functionality then preference and also as far as dressing up whether or not my good clothes will get damaged helps decide if I dress up. I think what matters is are they in reasonably good condition, and clean and pressed if needed

I saw what I imagine to be a 13 year old girl wearing a gauze see through shirt. I shook my head and wondered where her dad was. At least she had on a modest bra.

true enough. I thougth my father was going to have apoplexy when I tried to wear jeans to school once upon a timelaugh

I look at some of the urban fashion statemets more as an amusement than anything else but my sons would not dress that way - they are ultra prep....even more than I ever was

children should look like children

parents each have the right to raise theirs as they wish , but in our family that means no multiple piercings, no tats, boys wear their pants AROUND THEIR WAIST, and girls dont expose too much breast or midriff or leg, UNLESS The weather calls for it (very hot weather)

church - sunday best

school - dress no higher than two inches above knee, pants loose enough to kick the can can

night out, no overexposed breasts or legs,,

,,I think that covers it,,,

Ha!

Only if I rode the short bus.

Nice concept Ms.....the only problem is 1950 is long gone.....a kid dressed like that would be begging for an *** kicking.

noone bothers our kids about their dress, they are still fashionable, clean and matching, without having to be exposed,,,,or have clothes painted on to them
