If they pay for it themselves then of course they do. Electricity, gas, etc are not basics either. We could save a lot of tax dollars not paying for those. I bet it wouldn't take long for them to find work either. WRONG!! jobs arent something you go pick off oa tree EMPLOYERS have to enter into a contract to employe and THEY control the opportunity or lack of opportunity for many people to have an INCOME,,,

My point is people don't want them if they can get stuff for free.

My point is people don't want them if they can get stuff for free. your error is believing that something that doesnt have an immediate monetary exchange involved,, is 'free' or that that should be a qualifier for anything money is the middle resource in this order produce/work = get paid= transfer that payment to a product or service there is also another , just as valid means of attaining those ends , it used to be called bartering in essence produce/work= access to a product or service those in control of the money dont allow EVERYONE to have it, but that has nothing to do with how many are trying to WORK to earn something,,,whether its a need or the finances to pay for a need

If I get $1200 from the government in assistance why should I work for 40 hours a weelse to earn $1200? if you get 1200 a month, provided you report to someone like a child once a week, document forty hours of 'work' activity, and still get belittled by snooty classist citizens fortunate enough to be earning an 'income' with their work, its probably more preferencial to work 160 hours at 12.00 per hour and make the 1920 PLUS benefits, minus all the begrading and belittling from fellow 'citizens'
