"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."
- Barack Obama

taxes are lower than they have been in years,, not really an issue,,,this is a tax ONLY paid by those without health coverage of any sort (also leaves out those impoverished enough to qualify for OTHER medical insurance),,,so its not a uniform new tax,,,

That matters not. He said "no family". That means if even one family does then his statement is now untrue.

ok

is it clear what 'plan' he was referring to and if that 'plan' raised taxes, or are we just trying to make an absolute statement about any tax under any situation?

None of this is the crux of the problem. The problem is the new law gives government too much power.

He said you will not see "any form of tax increase" do I have to keep pointing out what is quoted or do I have to explain the meaning of his statements.

Great quote of 2012.
Those who pay no tax have no problem with taxes being raised.

Questions from a friend

If it’s now a tax, then just what exactly are they taxing?

Are they taxing our mere existence?

Am I to be taxed simply because I’m a living, breathing American citizen?

American citizenship was my birthright, I shouldn’t have to be constantly renewing my subscription, should I?

I take good care of myself, and for the most part, I’m very healthy, shouldn’t I pay less “health” tax than someone who is an alcoholic or is a meth head?

If I’m going to be forced to pay a tax for a service that I don’t necessarily need, why shouldn’t I be taxed to pay for things that I absolutely need, like food, water, shelter, and other basic necessities?

Won’t people who lead healthy lives be penalized while people who lead wretched lives be rewarded?

Won’t such a reversal of consequences lead to more unhealthy behavior?

Doesn’t the old adage “If you want less of something (healthy behavior), just tax it, and if you want more of something (lousy behavior), just subsidize it.” apply to this situation?

Has there ever been a bigger, more disgusting liar in the White House?

If they want healthy Americans they should impose a fat tax lol. Penalty for men over 20% body fat and women over 30%

Soon it will be the air we breathe.....don't give them any ideas chaz!

The SCOTUS just gave the govt the power to tax anything they wish!

Healthcare is only the tip of the iceberg now!

The "law" now is so foolish, they can't mandate, but they can tax you into buying or complying with whatever they see fit. They can't enforce it, but they can regulate our very lives now!

I'm going to take a stab at this....bigsmile

1. They are taxing free choice...

2. Not yet, but they are working on it...

3. Yes...

4. No...

5. Absolutely...

6. It has been "decided" by "the powers that be" you have no way of knowing you do not/will not need health insurance (actually, this is true but not a valid argument IMO)...AND, you are being taxed for necessities like housing, food, water....

7. The possibility exists with Obama Care....but, in all honesty, healthy people have been penalized for the consequences of unhealthy people for as long as I can remember....

8. It very well could....

9. Yes...

10. No....

Ah, but Obamacare doesn't have to be repealed to get rid of it.

1. Behavior, like they tax purchases, or gasoline.

2. Yes. From one of the flawless founding fathers. Living in america guarantees you have been born and you will pay taxes.

Letter from Benjamin Franklin to M. Le Roy (Nov. 13, 1789) (`Our new Constitution is now established . . . but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes’).”

3. See #2

4. having a birthright makes you a citizen, it doesnt alleviate you of responsibilities AS A CITIZEN..

5. Someone who is truly a methhead or coke addict has far more pressing struggles than a tax...and living 'healthy' does not account for accidents, emergencies, or other occasions which cause us to need use of the health industry.

6. Food IS Taxes already. Bottled water is taxed and water service has a tax as well. Homeowners pay a tax.

7. It depends upon what one considers a 'penalty' and what one considers a 'reward'. Everyone has the 'reward' of quality healthcare available to them DESPITE the ability to pay in most cases which is helping to drive COSTS up. Now everyone still has that availability while being compeled to play more of a part in CONTRIBUTING to its maintenance.

8. Why should it? When have taxes, a once a year deal, had an influence on anyones daily choices?

9. punctuation makes a heck of a difference I think the adage applies

If you want less of something (unhealthy behavior, like smoking and drinking), just tax it, and if you want more of something (healthy behavior like charity and education), just subsidize it.

10. A whole LIST of them,,yes

So if the government wants to mandate all car owners need to buy an electric car they can. If you don't they can tax you the price of he car.
This decision was a joke.
