WHAT THEY SAID...

The president's health care law is hurting our economy by driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire. Today's ruling underscores the urgency of repealing this harmful law in its entirety. What Americans want is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to health care reform that will protect Americans' access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost. Republicans stand ready to work with a president who will listen to the people and will not repeat the mistakes that gave our country ObamaCare." — Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio.

___

"This decision is a victory for the American people. With this ruling, Americans will benefit from critical patient protections, lower costs for the middle class, more coverage for families, and greater accountability for the insurance industry." — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

___

"It's a great moment to just think about what this will mean for the millions and millions of Americans who have already benefited from the Affordable Care Act and so many more who will continue to do so. There will be a lot of work to do to get it implemented and understand what the opinion says, but obviously, I was quite excited to hear the results." — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

___

"What's important to remember is that what the court rules on is whether something is constitutional or not, not whether it's a good idea. And while the court has said that the law is constitutional, it remains a bad idea for our economy, and I hope that in the fall we will have a majority here that will not just repeal this law, but replace it with real solutions that will insure more people and cost a lot less money." — Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida.

I didn't realize that Rubio was actually in favor of single payer!!

this ruling will now put President Kardashian in a box...he'll have to defend a 500 billion dollar tax increase on the American people...and...he will have to explain why he insisted that it wasn't a tax but a fee...now that the Supreme Court...has just ruled that it is indeed a tax...

nope, not really

no more than the court has to explain why it calls it a tax,, its a difference in how the bill was perceived,, not a crime nor unusual

the defense of the increase is the 846 billion (and rising) in dollars that healthcare is costing the country , this helps to cover a good portion of it,,

Now what's to stop the government from mandating we buy anything?
And if we don't buy whatever it is they just tax us. This opens a whole new can of worms and gives the government way to much power to control what we have in our lives.

Enslaving us by FORCING us to buy what we maybe don't want or need, IS a pressing issue! Wake up.

Not that it matters anyway, republican or democrat both work for the same team in the end. Hint hint, it's not for us.

well, they have to show a relevant INTEREST in that something

since healthcare costs are a SIGNIFICANT part of the US BUDGET,, I think this 'something' applies,,,,

ahh, the beauty of choice

its what they argued against medicare and medicaid for too,,,yet, now we all pay into it and havent been asked to purchase into much else since except car insurance for those driving,,,

if there is a choice, there is no force,,

pay for the medical costs via insurance that guarantees payment to health providers

or

pay a portion to the government budget to help them cover the medical costs that are left over from those who arent paying

buy the food and pay the tax, or dont have the food

the choice is there, regardless of whether they are choices we like or not,,,,noone has to die, noone has to go to jail...its really not a significant imposition..

the thing with healthcare is most people dont truly KNOW that they wont need it,

its like my son not understanding why he should have to buy car insurance if he doesnt 'need' it,,, we dont truly know when we will NEED those things,,,,

That's the point. Healthcare should be 0% of the budget.

I will amend this. Vets and military families are fine with having government support for this.

Ruled unconstitutional under the commerce clause.
Upheld as a tax.
Tell me how taxing the poor and middle class will help them?

Taxing the poor? Not so sure the poor will have to pay more in taxes. This will hit the Middle Class the hardest like always.

I absolutely hate this "law".

There was a Drug Import Bill that was stuck down months before the Healthcare Bill. That bill would have made it legal for U.S. citizens to shop for your medicine in other countries. One drug here can be priced 300% higher (or worse)than somewhere else. That would have been a great, common sense move but it didn't get passed. And why wasn't this included in the HC Reform Bill.

Another point to ponder:
This law is suppose to mean that people with pre-existing conditions will not get turned away from insurance coverage. Let's say a certain company looks at a new, possible customer with a pre-existing condition. That patient's care will cost them easily $300,000.00 for the coming year. BUT IF they deny this person and not allow them to be a customer/member, they may get found out eventually and slapped with a fine. For the sake of this argument, I will make the fine $10,000.00.

What would the company rather do? I think they will accept the risk of an eventual fine then accept someone with pre-existing conditions as a new policy holder.

Who will be caught? Since they will probably force us to show proof of medical insurance in our income tax filings, those people who don't have medical insurance will we be punished with a fine. A fine that automatically gets taken out of one's income tax return.

I also heard that Obama said this healthcare would costs no more than a trillion. It is now estimated to cost SEVENTEEN trillion over that first trillion.

The above are just a few thoughts. There are very disturbing aspects of this law like what form of biometric ID may be forced upon us and that real time electronic billing will be attached to our bank accounts?

I will NOT be a part of biometric ID !!

This healthcare law needs to go. Get rid of Obama. He should get impeached!

the process for passing a bill can be long, this admin is not the first, for example, to propose healthcare reform, other proposals have not gained the support to become law

the drug importation bill had several parts to it, more than merely getting cheaper drugs,, safety was also an issue

before safety was addressed it was supported 51-48

after safety was addressed it was supported 56-43

to pass, it required a vote of at least 60 in favor

I suspect prescription prices will come down enough with the healthcare reform as to not need importation,, but if importation has a chance and it most likely will as long as safety concerns are addressed, I have no reason to believe it doesnt have just as fair a shot,,

americans dont regularly have patience as a virtue , and expect what they expect immediately and without much review or real consideration ,,,,,

Not to worry about repealing it.

With the drain this will put on employers and the economy, coupled with the FED programs of "Twist and QE", the wars, SS, and welfare...

the economy will crash in a few months and there won't be anything for anyone, and Obozo will have accomplished his mission of destroying America.

Even better for him, Robme wins the election and the blame goes to the RepugliCANT'S!

And why should that be the governments problem? If people want to be fat and lazy that is their own personally problem. Seriously do people not even take responsibility for their own health. Americans are fat because they eat too much and exercise too little.

Some important facts about the Supreme Court ruling are being overlooked...First of all, the ruling was based on TAX laws...The high court ruled the healthcare mandate is a tax, not a penalty, and is constitutional under the taxing power of Congress...
If you understand adverse selection, you will understand a major consideration for the ruling....Basically, adverse selection means peeps in good health (like younger adults) often opt out of buying health care insurance which drives up prices for those who need it...Over time this results in market breakdown due to unaffordable pricing...Mandating citizens carry health insurance is supposed to stop market breakdown by making insurance affordable for everyone....The easiest way to question this is "by example"...Auto insurance has been for mandatory for several years...Mandating did not lower premiums....One reason is frivolous lawsuits...Before mandated healthcare can have a positive effect, the healthcare "system" must be cleaned up, it's filthy...
Also, nearly half of the massive health care bill consists of state medicare expansion and the Supreme Court ruled that government COULD NOT tax states that opt out...This is a huge victory for the states that challenged its constitutionality...
For now, all the ruling means is goverment can continue to move forward with "implementation" ...Even Rodham-Clinton said there is much work to do before it can be implemented...if its not repealed first that is...

here is why

if the government is OF , FOR , and BY the people, than the peoples needs are going to figure into where the people money is going,,,,

this grand system we have doesnt run on fumes, it takes money like everything else and as a part of the CITIZENRY, to continue enjoying the system we need to sometimes contribute some money to keep it going,, even if we can individually claim that one part or another is not DIRECTLY benefitting us at this specific time,,,

I could whimper and whine about military spending because I have not or do not believe I have needed military protection(hypothetically)

BUT

aas a collective nation enough people feel that there MAY come the time when that is needed to include it in the national budget,,,
