There are worse things then being alone.
Like eing with someone and still being alone.

Or being with someone who makes a point of making your life miserable.

Being alone has its advantages.

I did NOT wear green yesterday and did NOT get pinched.

Being alone I agree has its advantages, but after being widowed for six years I know there is disadvantages too. I rather be mated with someone than live life alone anyday. I like intimate companionship and not taking about sexual relationships but sharing of all things in life with that somebody special, through all things, the good and the bad ... it takes hard work for a marriage to make it last and the secret is to choose your mate wisely, the one who is a right match. I am looking at the subject of loneliness at the long run and not at the short run. For as time runs loneliness gently seeps. I agree at the beginning being alone has it advantages but being alone as time continues more disadvantages emerge than advantages I have found.

Being alone is bad enough but being in a relationship where you are still alone is even worse. I have been in a marriage for 9 years and fighting everyday to work on it but when you are with someone who has no desire to work on anything it can get lonely. Now I am alone and have the opportunity to work on me and wait until my special someone comes around.

I dont often feel too lonely,

but when I do, I reach for God.

Hes always there.

So true! I recently changed to a 10pm-6am work hours. I was going out Thursday night through Sunday night, with 60+ at the workplace. On my current shift I can only go out Friday and Saturday and their are 8 people working the same hours as me. I did go through some social withdraw at first and starting getting pretty desperate to talk to people. I got to a really low point in my life and I told God "I'm struggling". God has been by my side the whole time and I finally realized it:)

I too socialize, go out with friends and have family to visit and they visit me. I enjoy life but believe there is nothing like having companionship than to live alone.

Yes too and I agree with you, I know God is there in lives but God cannot hug you when you need a hug, or talk to you audibly when you want to have a conversation ... and his love is awesome no doubt, however, a mate is what I need and want to complete my life and fill the gap of loneliness, a companion likeless though with skin on.

I keep hearing and feel sorry for you who write and say they are in a bad relationship, with someone and feel lonely. There are people too which is not the case thus, and truly believe loneliness is cured by having a godly loving mate and hoping my comes along soon to fill my gap of loneliness! I wait for him and in the meantime I agree with many of you, a person does and I do fill my life with hobbies, activities, outings ... . I believe the cure for loneliness is a loving mate.

I haven't touched a woman by choice waiting for nothing for 3 years.

It's never been painful, just really annoying!

I am very much a private person but sometimes you just have to let it out. What do you do when you experience this pain?

I can feel alone in a crowd of people. I don't take feelings such as sadness and loneliness serious, unless there happens to be a good reason to feel such. I have severe depression, so it's a little different with me than it may be for others.

Why do people have depression?

Resistance to butterflies and rainbows? :P

Totage hearing you have deep depression, I am glad to have heard in another topic thread that you are getting a piano. Learn to play the piano it will change your life. It may even lessen and help with depression. Did you know that music can be healing theraphy and playing an instrument doubles for all of you is involved, the mind, soul and body while playing. Good luck on your piano restoration, I hope you do restore it and learn to play it is something you will never regret. Truly, take care and get well soon.
