Why is that when you are talking to someone and just need someone to listen they offer you advice on how to make things better? I do not need strangers advice. If I want advice I will ask for it and unless I do SHUT-UP!

Why talk about something if you're not willing to at least listen to any advice they may have? It may not be what you want, but perhaps they can help you.

IDK, I don't expect advice, but I always appreciate when people are willing to offer me some. At least they care enough about you to help you in some way.

So her boyfriend had a thing for male ducks with speech impediments.

Doesn't anybody know how to have a conversation without giving advice? Most of you have completely missed the point.

Hummm sorry but is this not advice in a sense...slaphead

I have been thinking about this for awhile. So a conversation with no advice between two guys goes like this....

...1st guy, " My girlfriend is driving me nutz."
2nd guy, " The green gate opens at midnight."
1st guy, " I am tired of her telling me to ________."
2nd guy, " I just got a new shirt."
1st guy, " I just wish she would stop nagging."
2nd guy, " I should water the lawn."
1st guy, " Now she wants me to fix the car."
2nd guy, " I heard it snowed in Uganda for the first time ever."

IDK, looks like two people walking side by side, ignoring each other. Is this considered conversation?

there are other options though, the person could just say 'uh huh' every few sentences, but some people would be offended by that too

or a person could show compassion with utterances like 'aw, im so sorry, thats terrible',,, but some people would be offended by that

or a person could just ask questions 'what are you gonna do?, where will you go? how do you feel?' but some would be offended by that to....

lol,, you gotta just be you, and if you are close enough friends to share things with, your friend should let you know their preference

if its a stranger,,oh well,, you didnt ask them to share it with you,,,

My favorite "advice" is to let them rant, then I finish it with:

"Well, it looks like you know what to do, guess I'm not needed..."
