If the people's tax dollars are going to fund black operations we should know what those black operations are. (They are usually spying, crimes or terrorism of some kind, to include assassinations.)

I don't want to pay for that.

If "classified" is being used to cover up blunders, or crimes, then I demand to know why a thing is classified.

I fear nothing and noone really, life happens and some will be good and some will be bad and noone and nothing will be perfect. I appreciate all the things that I know could be worse and they still outlist those which could be better.....

To say that you fear nothing can't be the truth when you approve of certain things being done in the name of "national security." Apparently you are afraid of something.

Any time you make a decision based on fear... then you can't say that you are not afraid.

there are things ID rather not see happen, perhaps that is a type of fear

the fear I am speaking of is the kind that interrupts or disrupts my thought process or my ability to enjoy life,,,

The entire thing is just way too subjective msharmony, you give them an inch, they will take a mile every single time. Always have.

I disagree. There is no perfect system, but the absolute transparency some seek would be as catastrophic as any other.

Problem is the government uses the fear of what could happen to justify inhibiting our lives in the way you speak of in the 2nd part of that statement. You may not think your life is changed, but it still is being changed.

Then when you have no rights or freedoms left, you will only have yourself to blame because you gave them the power to take them.

The society we live in today is not the same one I lived in when I was 20 - 30 years old.

The changes that have been made to the laws I live under today are sniffling compared to what they were when I was a young adult. If you are only 20 or 35 years old you probably don't notice.

what rights or freedom has been taken?

if anything, more are being added each day which I think is as dangerous as them being 'taken', because people tend to be impulsive and not think about the big picture ,,,,

but, ID say,

we have the most 'rights' of just about any nation on earth

Ok I'll give you one, I had to spend an extra $30 or so to get a snowglobe shipped home on an airline cause I couldn't bring it on the plane cause of the liquid. It was stupid, and it made getting home a pain in my butt. There's one example. We're not as free as we think we are no matter how much we delude ourselves that we are.

what rights or freedom has been taken?

Does the TSA ring a bell? Can't do this, can't take that, gotta be scanned for this, etc etc etc.

And now on top of this, they've taken away our rights to a fair trial, meaning they could arrest any one of us and not have to try us in court before detaining us.

If you don't think we are losing rights and freedoms, you're just not paying any attention.

you are free to criticize your government
you are free to shop where you want
you are free to spend your money how you want
you are free to choose your own job

there are far more freedoms in this country than a disallowed snowmobile could possibly be seen as a threat to,,,

heck, you didnt even have that restricted, you just had to send it in a 'safer' and more expensive manner,,,

Here is a small taste of how life has changed.
We survived just fine.

Those of You Born
1930 - 1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!

First, we survived being born to mothers
Who smoked and/or drank while they were
Pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing,
Tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles,
Locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode
Our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children,
We would ride in cars with no car seats,
No booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day
Was always a special treat.

We drank water
From the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends,
From one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon..
We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And, we weren't overweight.
WHY?

Because we were
Always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
As long as we were back when the
Streetlights came on.

No one was able
To reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
And then ride them down the hill, only to find out
We forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes
a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
No video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's,
No cell phones, No personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS
And we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth
And there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt,
And the worms did not live in us
Forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and,
Although we were told it would happen,
We did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and
Knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just
Walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal
With disappointment.
Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law
Was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best
Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years
Have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them?
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others
who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the
lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives
for our own good .

how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house
with scissors, doesn't it ?

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us.. ...go ahead and delete this.

there is very little there that americans dont still have the CHOICE to do if they wish to,,,,,

with the exception of vehicle laws and regulations on lead, which are far from things that Im upset about or that make me feel less 'free'

I think people are mixing up 'inconvenience' with 'loss of freedom'

******** msharmony, on all counts. Anytime anyone tries to speak out against the government they are put down, censored and sometimes even killed, hardly freedom of speech. How many times have people posted youtube videos criticizing the state only to have them removed?

We're hardly even free to shop where we want half the time because if the state decides that something is no good for us (raw dairy for example), we can't get it without breaking the law. They shut the ability to get it down.

Which goes into the money, if they can control where we use it and where we don't, we're not free to use it how we want to. Further, we have to spend a lot of it on bills and on unlawful taxes whether we want to or not, so we have even less to spend then!

Finally, we more or less are forced to take a job within the system even if we don't like it, because they make things a royal pain in the *** to start up something on our own. We have little choice just an illusion of it. How many people would you say are really truly doing the job they want to? I'd say not a very high percentage.

You need to wake up, we are NOT the free country you think we are, you are completely wrong.

I would rather take my chances and be free, than be safe and have no freedom at all. You cannot protect everyone from everything, and a lot of the draconian policies we now see is based on this idea that we have to try. All it ever does is punish the innocent people for things they never did. If someone wants to commit a crime, no matter WHAT the law is, they will do it. Nothing is ever going to change that.
