Topic: Bringing Home The Bacon

Well kids, I am personally terrified to date. I was married almost 30 years before my wonderful man passed away and I have been without him since Jan 2, 2009. The think I really miss most of all is his gigantic hugs and scooping me up when I would come to bed as cold as an ice cube....sigh....so how do people do this? Get over being married over half your life and let someone else in?

I dont think its something you should ever 'get over'. I just think you learn from it, cherish it, and use it to move forward in life instead of remaining stuck in the past.

As a 21st Century, single women, I generally do my own hunting and gathering – I don’t only bring home the bacon, I bring home the whole pig! laugh

I know from my own experience, that my version of 21st Century women has intimidated some men – not that it’s ever come up in conversation but it’s just something I’ve picked up on..

On my ‘woe is me’ days, I sometimes wish I was less 21st Century and more 19th Century. Thankfully, the feeling doesn’t last long but the thoughts are there.

Ladies...do you consider yourself as a 21st Century woman? How has this affected your dating experience(s)?

Guys..do you secretly wish for a less - how do I put this and still hold my head high laugh... a less evolved woman?

I think people confuse capabilities and preferences. I think many women are 'evolved' enough to do it all but just dont have any preference to do so.

I can and have done it myself, I have also had a partner. I happen to prefer the partner, which means SHARING a life and SHARING the responsibilities and no longer feeling a need to do it 'all by myself.'

Because there are so many pampered men (pampered by their mothers) who don't learn to bring home the bacon, women of today have had to learn to do it themselves.

And women are usually saddled with the responsibility of raising the children when their men wander off forgetting where they have planted their seed.

Because of this, women have been forced to become independent, resourceful, and smarter than men.

This kind of woman, if she is not careful, will attract a man who will join her litter and suckle right along with all her kids.

They become just another burden and another mouth to feed.

That is why smart independent women are usually without a man in her house.

There are elements of what you have said that reflects my dating experience... but the great things about being smart, independent women, is that we are adaptable and survivors...

I don't know how I would get over such a loss either...I'm not sure that I would want to!

I agree with you that it is about finding that balance..because there are those that perceive a woman relinquishing control as a sign of weakness and use that against her.

Superhero88 in tophat’s thread said “it shouldn't be all about money and top-notched jobs! It should be on a person who can deliver a heart to someone who needs it! In other words, materials shouldn't matter...its the heart that counts”

I’m ideally looking for someone that knows he will be loved and valued because he knows exactly what part of the pig he is bringing home to my table.

I won't be a replacement for his mother. He won't regress in my company and become one of my children. He won't resent my success and achievements...now where did that genie get to with my three wishes laugh laugh

rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl That so always happened to me..

When I first got married at 19, I thought I was meant to be looked after and quiet happily stayed at home and raised our children.

But after being left raising 2 children on my own, I decided that I would never be put in a spot where they had to miss out on anything they needed, ( not wanted).

so I worked and still do, I have been married again but always have supported myself and my children, Thankfully with 6 children I am able to do that..

Its not that I wouldnt want to have someone take care of me, but I dont know that I would ever be secure enough to know that my children and I would be taken care of. For my own peace of mind I need to know that if they need someong , I can supply it.

In my personal experience ... Men that want a woman in the kitchen with an apron and go go boots...don't like her to be independent. I believe they feel threatened of losing control of her. explode

I sometimes think that women are in a 'loose, loose, situation'. If we are 'stay at homes', we can be resented for 'not pulling' our weight; resented because we're too tired after cooking, looking after the kids and home to put on the go-go boots and be the da bomb in the bedroom.

Or resented being able to do it all...going out to work, doing the cooking, looking after the kids etc

Hummm well I raised two kids as a single parent from the time they were 7 & 9. Never let a man live with me while my kids were growing up. Had to learn to do it all on my own. Bought my own house ect.....

If a man gets all butt hurt over the fact that I can be independent and provide for my family and now for myself. I sure as hell don't need them around!!noway noway noway

Actually I have never run into that issue the men I have met and been around respect the idea that I have not depended on others for things. And were able to provide for myself and kids on my own. bigsmile

Don't get me wrong; I like the idea of sharing but I always think worse case scenario. The person leaves, gets severely injured, or could even die. I think its a great idea to share as you also learn as you go but if one depends solely on the other person to do things for them; they could be in a world of hurt.

"Wish for a less evolved woman"

?

Hell no! I demand an equal and won't settle for less.

However, most guys ain't too bright and do want a woman who makes them look less stupid or less lazy.

Trust me, I am friends with alot of idiots that stupid women date....Do I blame the moron? or do I blame the chick who settles for a moron?

tricky

Yes, I have to agree with what you said. I think it may be an ego thing with these guys and being with a woman that isn't as independent or smart as them makes them feel more manly. Goodness knows I have met them. I remember a guy that I went on a date with a few years ago that told me I knew too much and he wasn't used to dating that type of women. I was also told by my friends to act dumb and needy if I wanted to be with a man. People sure have strange ideas. whoa
