It's going to be VERY cold and snowy and icy... I would bring lots of warm clothing and hats, mittens and scarfs or plan to buy them once you arrive here or order them online if they are not available in your country. There is still things you can do here in those months. I mean we don't just shut down when it snows!!! But I would plan inside activity's on the days when there are storms. Like museums, aquariums and such, there is soooo much to see in NYC!!! You could also possibly learn to ski and ice skate?

If your with that special someone, you may like a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride.
WARNING Winter restrictions - No carriage may operate below 19 degrees or during Blizzards. ASPCA has, on occasion, sent horses home on short notice when it snows. |

Bundle up! Last time I went to NYC was right before Christmas a couple years ago. It was really cold, so take that into account when packing. Also, it could snow and that could mess up sight seeing plans. If it's just cold, you should be fine.

If you going to go to NYC, my suggestion don't drive!!! LOL
I did, and it wasn't fun. Take the metro or cabs. They take you anywhere and everywhere. They knows the street better then a visitor. Less stress and tolls you have to pay. As a regular New Yorker told me, they don't even drive in their own city. So my suggestion, you do the same! |

Winter footware. Do not forget winter footware. New York I feel is best on foot.

And thermals. And gloves. And scarves. And I like putting my undies in the dryer for a bit before going outside during the winter.

Visit and Explore Long Island also when you go..Just
grab the LIRR out of Penn....and rent a car in Long Island. The holiday season especially is a great time for visiting both NYC and Long island . |

IMO, NY is more an out doorsy type of tourist attraction… I went in mid November a couple of years ago and it was already snowing and it was freezing….Although the indoor museums etc were great, we spent most of our time on the metro/streets walking about and taking in the city.
As others have said, it will be freezing so definitely bring warm clothing/footwear and thermals. I would also recommend the metro as we found it is easy to navigate, cheap (with the one day passes) and warm. |
