There is a show called "How I Met Your Mother"

I stumbled across it once and do watch now and again

Part of the on going story is the character of Barney

who is constantly trying to get laid.

One show was about his 'perfect week' where he was

on track to taking a different woman home with him each

night.

While I find it humorous, I can't help but wonder if the

show, or any other would be the same if it were a woman

picking up a different stranger in a bar, club each night

and having a goal of 7 men in 7 days.

I feel the double standard is still prevalent in society....

that it's not only acceptable, but cool that Barney can do

this, yet if it were a woman it would somehow become dirty

and she would be a slut....

Thoughts?

Women enjoy sex just as much as men, but still get "punished" for it, while men are "praised". It also seems be more acceptable for a woman to have no interest in sex, than for a male. That just doesn't make sense to me, and never will. Though, society seems to be changing slightly, there still certainly is a double standard.

it also seems more acceptable for a woman to have no interest in being a mother to the life she created with a man

than it is for a man to have no interest in being a father to the life he created with a woman

and more acceptible for a woman to hit on a man than vice versa
and more acceptible for women to cry then men

the list goes on and on on both sides, and we probably wont break from it as we decide how much our REAL DIFFERENCES(male vs female) should factor into our lives,,,

I cant speak for guys, however, as an OBSERVER,, it sure doesnt seem true that the average guy cant come home with a different girl every night in this culture where sex is just something fun to do

now whether they could score the 'beauty queen' they are seeking, is a different story,,,

A guy would have to know where to go and have game to do it. A girl could just go to a bar and find a guy much more easily. Just saying if you have a guy and a girl the same attractive level the girl will have an easier time finding a guy than vice versa.

but think of what you are saying

a girl can just go to a bar and find a guy,, and there are PLENTY of 'those types' of girls for the guys to choose from at just about ANY bar,,,

so its not that hard for either gender to score , in an intoxicated environment, unless there is just a higher NUMBER of one gender than the other

No, I think there are far less girls willing to have sex with anyone than guys willing to have sex with anyone. Just go to craigs list and compare the guys looking for "casual encounters" to girls. Or any dating site that allows for stuff like that. Men always greatly outnumber women.

Isn't it funny how all these slutty women are getting laid all the time and men can't get it if they tried. How does that work? Who is laying the hos?

More than 2000 years of women being the control of the beastly men's sex drive is taking forever to go away. Men say that women can do what they want but do not judge them with the same ideal.

Women are guilty of perpetuating this double standard too. They judge other women harshly if they are, by their standards, which are usually what their mother/father/family taught them, too sexual.

I gave an example of this in my first sentence.

Slutty really doesn't have anything to do with sex partners or lack of, it is a manner of acting around men.

there should have NEVER been a any difference on this matter...
women have always enjoyed sex (some of us anyway) and should have never been repressed...
your list above....irrelevent

Well also if the sex is bad its always the mans fault. Guess it just comes with the territory.

Yeah, but it's women. Its called sex in the city...I never watched just for the fact that they are all horrible actresses. Plus the fact that it makes them look like whores. Just my opinion

Way before that there was a show on HBO called Dream on that was hilarious.

And there's the double standard. Guys seem to think it's ok when they have casual sex/sleep around. Yet, when women do it, they're whores or sluts.

Well. Then barney is a whore and a woman would be too if she did that. Not a double standard really. They are both dirty.

yup I completely agree that it is a totally unfair double standard that will only change when women expect more from men

and I think it 's good that in some cases men risk the man-slut label just as women do - not that negative labeling is good, but that people are starting to see that it's no different for a man to be a slut than it is a woman - irrespective of whether it is a good, bad, or "dirty" thing

( and I am not trying to be gender biased, it's just that the double standard now expects more from women in terms of "chaste " behavior)

and a woman should not have to be practically celibate just to avoid being negatively labeled either

I agree that promiscuous is promiscuous,, and should have the same stigma/credit upon both genders

that's exactly the point

it is more acceptable for men

I 've met men on here - a few who I really like, actaully, who definitely should change their profiles to read that they are looking for casual encounters rather than "freinds" or to "hang out"

they prolly don't because it limits who they can contact - is that perhaps a sign that the tables are turning? Or is it just more evidence that guys sometimes try to mask their actaul intentions when hitting on women?

msharmony's photo
Sun 06/12/11 12:16 PM
its the 'good girl' / 'bad guy' games

guys want the 'good girl' , as opposed to the 'used girl' so they advertise themself in the manner in which a 'good girl' would be more attracted to

in short, many guys who jump from girl to girl dont want the type of girl who likes being with a guy who jumps from girl to girl,,lol

and the games continue...

that is unfair. to me there are other issues that are more important like behaviors that can negatively affect a person's capacity for trust, love, and intimacy that affect men as well as women who are promiscuous but most men will be less likely to confront those issues within themselves OR acknowledge that they are important issues , in my opinion

but u can't win w/ guys - they call u a slut if u sleep w/ thm and a whore if u won'tlaugh

frustrated Can I chime in. I go to a place called Jakes. I am not a drinker at all. I vgo for the noise because being separated aftewr 33 years of faithful marriage it gets lonely in an empty room at night (thus going to jakes). I was there last night watching two men and a woman at a table nearby. They had all had a few too many. The woman and the two men all looked like they wanted to get in someone's pants ( or short skirt in the woman's place). I remember thinking that the woman was acting slutty. I guess it is something drilled into our thinking by society. They vwere all actually slutty, but I immediately thought from the woman's part. Wierd Huh

I agree - there is totally such a thing as a man-ho

and I don't tend to praise that kind of male behavior at all

point is - there is less stigma attached to being a man-ho in most cirlces
