How much of our stress is self induced? And can be prevented by changing our own outlook.

I have a neighbor who hates to go to work. So he gets grumpy and angry before leaving for work and grumps all the way out and gets into trouble at work for his poor attitude at work.

So my thing is that this is unnecessary stress because his self induced attitude causes him undue stress every working day. Causing his health to be affected and his quality of life is affected by his own attitude. Not that I would force him to change or stop doing this because he has every right but I am observant sometimes.

He could be applying for other jobs if he hates this one so badly. And/Or if he knows he has to go to work everyday he could fix his mind to make it as enjoyable as possible by looking at the positives.

Do you know of any self induced stress that we could stop doing to ourselves?

Like road rage maybe?

Getting upset about how others live their lives maybe?

Really I think that most stress is self induced,

Everyone has stress in their lives, its how you cope with it that makes the difference.

If there are stressful things in my life, I deal with them.

If I can fix them I do.
If i cant then I just put it to the side, either until I can or until something brings it up again.

I laugh through life, make the best of everything, even the rubbish and refuse to see the stressful side of anything, there always has to be something good I can look at.

and if things get really really bad, I just find something to take my mind off it, I might make fun of my children, play games with them or just be plain dumb, anything to just make our household fun and light, We dont want or need stress in our lives, so I dont let it in..

I think if you view stress as a reaction to a particular event, or actoin, or situation,,,,than we have as much control over our 'stress' as we do the events, actions, and situations we allow ourself to be in,,,or FIND ourself in without changing

for instance, the stress of a bad or abusive relationship is not usually something we consciously expect or see coming, but once we can recognize it as a stressor, we can either change something about the relationship or get out of it

so, although I dont believe we cause most of our own stress, I do think we can do something to alleviate most of the stress we find ourselves privy to,,

Anything can stress us out, but the more we think about what made us stressed, the worse it'll get. I once got a stomach ulcer from self-induced stress. Though i don't get stressed that much. When i do, there's normally a big reason for it occuring. It normally takes something massive to happen to ever let it get to me. Never again will i think too much about stressful stuff. If you do, then you're kind of asking for it, in a way. Even though i got bullied at school, i know i have a right to have as good a life as anyone else on this earth.

I would think that at least 75% of stress is self induced. We tend to make more of a situation then we should. Myself I try not to let things bother me too much it is going to happen just deal with it the best you can and move on. People should quit dwelling on things they have no control over and enjoy the things they can...whoa

awesome yes! I banish stress inducers and practice regular destressors like yoga and meditation

if it causes stress it gets ignored or throwm away

and I also agree attitude is the biggest factor - learning not to stress over things u can't control, for example

I beleive self induced stress can also be cause by sports. I can't tell you the number of time I have worried if the Sharks were going to advance to the next round or a team I was pulling for was going to win it in overtime. Much less win the Cup.

Now, I have learned to not sweat these things. I've stopped worrying about The Cowboys, The sharks and their bad season. Too bad I cant get all my hair back I lost over the years

Now all I worry about is the World Cup. Thankfully that only comes once every 4 years. Like me..haha:tongue:

A lot of stress is self caused.
Road rage for example; leave a few minutes earlier and follow the traffic patterns, don't try and "beat" them.

But some stress is caused by simple factors we cannot control.
That lack of control causes stress.

i had a reall terrible job and they paid me a ton of money plus annual bonuses, but it was too stressful, i knew i have a heart attack by 40 if I stayed so I quit...and took a job with less pay...that i loved.
