Because we need soldiers spread out all over the world, especially when we keep finding a new war, a new enemy. Who better to send to kill than those who have violent tendencies to begin with.
Rape victims are just more collateral damage....

i've read a ton of absurdities on the forums but this takes the cake.

i guess a sarcasm emoticon is needed.....ohwell

I do think that there is a place for all types in the military, there are positions for the highly analytical (usually in leadership or technology positions) and there are positions for the aggressive (usually in combat)

I wonder what the consensus of war would be if we did send our (violent) inmates instead? would we care so much about lives lost, would we value their lives as much as we now value 'our men and women in uniform who fight for our freedom'?

just my mind wandering,, I just wonder,,,

My initial guess would be no, the lives of inmates would not be important to most. People thrive on punishment and revenge...what a better way to wipe out the riff-raff.
Actually some would even be pleased...sad to say.

My understanding, talking to some of the retired military I know, is that they DON'T want the violent ones, the gangsters, etc. Those types already know how to survive, and will only be better trained when they come back, and will lose even more of their basic sense of honor and decency, and there will be more bloodshed in US towns and cities. It sets us up to be more like Somalia, and Africa where the kids are growing up slaughtering people, and their life is that way as adults.

Rape won't happen until men make it stop. For all the guys (here on Mingle2) claiming that rape is evil, I've been reading the "but it happens" coming out the other side of their mouths.

It will stop when men drop the "but" and actively support women who have been raped, and support laws and groups that seek to help women (and children and men, who have had to deal with this horror).

There is NO excuse for it. Period. In any way shape or form. At All!

~~~
As far as the article itself, I am in agreement that our servicewomen need the extra support. However, I believe ALL women should have access to it. Or else, mens Viagra and Cialis, and impotence drugs need to be removed. After all, if women taxpayers have to pay for a guy to get it up, then the least that can happen is that the men pay for something that they won't really take responsibility for at the other end.
