It would be a cold day in hell that I need any man to protect me!! I have and always will take care of myself. The very thought of some ahole thinking I need him to protect me makes me sick!!!!

I think your extreme anger at men in general is making your thinking a bit cloudy. It is completely natural for a man to feel protective of a woman. Just as a woman feel protective of her children. Its not a bad thing.

back to the topic, I understand and agree with your point of view

its awful that rape happens anywhere, and it is certainly the rapists responsibility to NOT put their hands on someone without consent,, BUT it is also the responsibility of all of us to make safe choices to protect our own persons, lives, and possessions,,

and help is help, whether we need it or not, it behooves me to think any genuine attempt to help someone should be offensive,,,but to each their own

Yup, a lot of people don't understand the difference if they never served.

I remember being shocked when I took my oath to defend my flurry. There is one line where you say something like - I understand I can be executed for dereliction of duty.

You say on your oath that you give permission for your chain of command to kill you.

This may sound cold. But there was a reason they didn't let women in the military earlier. I believe this just shows why it isn't a good idea.

Anyone that argues that the men should just keep it in their pants is of course correct on these situations. However, pragmatically - that is a pipe dream.

This post of yours.....disturbing.
2 times now you are saying that if 'we' haven't been in the military we just don't understand....
understand what? Rape is rape regardless of who has been in the military. I already asked..what does being trained to fight have to do with rape..

and i have been wrong before, probably will be again

I am only trying to explain why the percentage of rape in the military is higher than the national average. That is a fact. Is it just coincidence? Does the military just attract these kind of people? I think it is because of the way men are trained to be willing to kill someone because they are wearing a different uniform. Because in battle, that is all there is to it. You can't have men on the front line that will be hesitant to pull the trigger because that is another human being on the other side.

That is what it takes to defend our country from those that want to destroy us. If you don't like it, then abolish the military altogether and turn over our country to someone else. But then they will form their own military and the cycle starts all over again...

And this makes you think it's ok to make excuses for rape in the military?

Where in the world are you getting this idea????

I have NEVER said rape was ok anywhere either in or out of the military!!!!! I did say the men that do this are weak and cowardly. How is that making an excuse for them????

I was only trying to answer the question I just posed...

Why is the percentage of rapes in the military higher than the national average?

The OP stared off saying that women in the military should be provided medical care for abortions.

I looked at the problem of women being raped in the military.

That is all I have done in this thread.

Tried to answer the question: why is it higher than the national average.

And since it is higher than the national average, maybe we would be better off if women were not allowed in the military.

this statement keeps coming back to me.....
"Anyone that argues that the men should just keep it in their pants is of course correct on these situations. However, pragmatically - that is a pipe dream."

Taking women out of the military so the men won't be tempted, c'mon!
WTF....lets just all wear burka's so the poor horny men won't get a boner and have to rape. Such silly-ness!

The problem won't be solved by removing the women. The problem isn't with the rape victim, it's with the rapist. Take the drugs away from an addict and the problem is only gone until drugs are back in the picture, their still an addict.

Personally I have never had an interest in serving in the military..if a woman chooses that, why should she be punished from serving because someone else may want to rape her, that just makes no sense.

Put them in a burka, take away the make-up, cut the hair, no pretty skirts allowed.....take away all that makes a woman a woman and the problem still is there because the vagina is still there.
Maybe a pocket-p uSs y for all horny military men is needed.

ok, so, ignore the fact that there is rape in the military and just give them access to medical treatment after. Sex crimes have an extremely high recidity rate.

There is another reason to keep women out of the military. Rape really destroys moral.

I was deployed to Bosnia for 7 months. No rapes occurred that I know of but there was a lot of sex and peeping toms. It got to the point that I was ashamed to even realize the person I was looking at was a woman. I felt guilty just for being a man.

I don't think the fact should be ignored...nor do I think the government should pay for abortions.

I once watched a documentary about women in the military on 60 minutes or a show like it. There was a very elderly retired military
officer talking of his thoughts of why he did not want women in the military. He spoke of his wife and daughters and how his role as a man was to protect them. He spoke of how difficult it is to watch fellow male soldiers being abused by the enemy and how he didn't think he could keep his mouth shut if he ever witnessed a fellow soldier who was a woman being raped, tortured, etc. His reasoning to not want women there was his innate and overwhelming natural
response to protect them, women.

This to me, is reasonable. Not allowing women in the military because a fellow soldier may have an urge to rape is not.
Rape is not about sex, it's about control and power.

It would be a cold day in hell that I need any man to protect me!! I have and always will take care of myself. The very thought of some ahole thinking I need him to protect me makes me sick!!!!

What that man was saying and I agree with is - it is a natural instinct for a man to want to protect a woman.

Its saying I don't have enough strength to defend myself. My thinking is quite clear thank you very much. I learned to defend myself in the military and did not rely on a man to defend me. If I couldn't then I shouldn't be serving. Attitudes need to change and thank goodness the men I served with did. They never defended me as they knew I could fight my own battles. I am not some girly girl that needs a man's protection.

From a few posts here it appears to me that my stand on rape is misunderstood.

I absolutely abhor rape and think the men that do it are scum. Since it has a very high recidivism I think these men should be locked up for life, or possibly be given their own community to live in.

But the VAST majority of men are not like that. They actually love and respect women. Such as myself.

That said, rape still occurs. How do we prevent it? There is no punishment severe enough that will stop a minority of men from raping.

Instead we throw a blanket over all men and say all are bad and should be corralled because they are incapable of controlling themselves.

I would prefer to be allowed to be a man and not have to continually apologize for my entire gender.

If you want a case of travesty of justice. My former brother-in-law was driving a car when his friend in the back seat raped the girl with them. he was threatened at gun point to keep driving. He was a victim too.

But because he was a man in the car he was guilty by association. If it was a woman driving this would have never occurred. He accepted a plea deal to assault - even though he never laid a hand on her. Both lawyers agreed to this and were only sorry they couldn't reduce it further. When they went before the judge, he saw rape printed on the docket. He threw the book at him. Given 20 years and is now a registered sex offender because he drove a car with a gun to his head.

When you say "we" who are you talking about? You were the one who brought up how women shouldn't be in the military because men couldn't control themselves. So, maybe you should be speaking for yourself?

Sorry to hear about your brother. That's a really awful situation.

I dont see it as damsel in distress, I see it as gentlemanly behavior

because I CAN open the door for myself, and the gentleman I am with chooses to do it for me, I interpret that as them doing something that SPARES Me some effort, which I see as an act of kindness

I guess its all about personal perception though,,,

you are the only one that didn't, you have a level head..he didn't say that women shouldn't be in the military, he said we should expect these types of problems since they are getting more duties in the military. some people turned it into "women should not be in the military"... i was in the navy for 4 years, and never once heard of a woman getting raped, as a matter of fact, 2 men were raped on my ship in the 3 years i was on it... but no women were...but the whole question was should the government pay for there abortions, and i said if was proven rape, than yes, the government should...but for all this rape they say is happening, they have EVERYONES DNA on their records, and it should not be very hard to match DNA samples... so why are they not doing it?
