Why do some people need religion? Why do people search for truth? |

Interesting questions:
Why do some people need religion? I have no clue. I personally don't feel that I need religion. I could be perfectly happy living in an atheistic secular world. Having said that, there are two things that draw me to "religion" or spirituality. First, it can be a beautiful dream. It's a romantic notion, that's fun to imagine and can be a very positive thing. Of course for some people it can become a negative thing too, but I can only speak to what it means to me, and for me it can be very positive and constructive. But this is in the context of a free and abstract spiritual pursuit. I have absolutely no use for any dogmatic oppressive religions that are associated with organized religious bigotry, etc. That kind of "religion" I can live without. Secondly, imagining a spiritual paradigm can actually be quite productive and constructive. Even if done via pure imagination alone. In other words, from my perspective a well-structured and well-practiced spiritual paradigm can indeed be practically useful in many ways. And of course, building that paradigm from preexisting archetypes of the human psyche has value, because the humans that came before us had much to offer and their thoughts and insights are indeed valuable and worthy of study. Why do people search for truth? I'm a natural born scientist. I love to seek and discover truth. It's just part and parcel of what I am. |

All people have religion. This is a trait handed down to us since at least neanderthal man. The question is whether our religions are organized or not. Atheism is a religion too, just not an organized one. As a general rule, religion is needed to keep us in touch with our humanity. Unlike science or other purely logical fields, religion gives us objective moral rules and standards. That is, while objective disciplines can explain why things happen and why we do things, religion tells what we SHOULD and SHOULDN'T do.
I don't know why everyone searches for truth, but I do it because truth is powerful. It shatters illusions which are often self-limiting and allows us to see what is real. |

You may be a accused of sending mixed messages. Earlier, you seemed critical of the impulse to ask the big questions about life and reality and such. Didn't you advise, "just live it"?

You may be a accused of sending mixed messages. Earlier, you seemed critical of the impulse to ask the big questions about life and reality and such. Didn't you advise, "just live it"? Yes I did. That is why I wonder why people need religion, and I wonder why they seek truth. I'm not asking them to seek truth. I am wondering why they do, when they could focus on living. Perhaps living is the only truth we need. |

I have always sought truth. I have always looked for answers. I may have found that the answer is to stop looking and just live your life. |

Because people are fuqin pansies.
No one wants the truth...stop lying to us....it's insulting. You are like everyone,... You want to be loved like everyone else. You are your own worst enemy. Just like all the rest. Stop b!tching that you have made life your enemy. .... Stop what you are doing..... aprecieate what life has handed you. Cuase if you want to just whine about what you dont have...I will give you fair reason to suicide. |

Life is the most wonderful thing I can think of. If I could, I would live here for a thousand years at the very least. The fact that I even exist is some kind of miracle. I love my life. Each moment is a miracle.

Religion gives some people a reason.
It answers all their questions. People search for truth because it is in mans nature to be curious. |

I'm perfectly fine without religion. I don't need it and it's not a part of my life.

Why do some people need religion? Why do people search for truth? People don't need religion. Religistologist is a job discription in this day... face it... Pastors, Inmams and all the range in between make MONEY... The gold is indeed once again in the temple... God without religion is a given.(he exists) Religion needs god for the same to be said of it. |

Careful, Jeannie. You're getting into philosophy again. So? What is the danger in that? Philosphy is religion with god set to minimum and vain imaginings set to maximum. |

This. It is a business, and also a control mechanism. That's the whole goal behind it all in short. |

Why do some people need religion? Why do people search for truth? Because we are created by God it is in our DNA/Genetic make up to search for the truth. Personally I dont need religion, as to me religion is mans made up truth and consists of rules and regulations. I am a child of God and I belong to him and follow his word from the Bible on how to live my life. |

Here is the thing, whether you realize it or not, whether you even agree with it or not, by allowing a book that claims to be God's word though written by men, to dictate how you live your life, you are STILL using a religion. Because you're letting what other men have written to control your life instead of simply living it and being free. I know you're not gonna believe this, but that is the truth. |

Of course there are the conversations with God and the things he tells me and the healing he has done twice on me. |
