Topic: Why Do People Commit Suicide? | |
---|---|
Some people here know me, but they really don't know about me. I have major health issues and would rather not make a laundry list of what they are. But it has been very difficult for me and just recently, I broke my arm in 3 places and will need rehab, but no surgery. That is the least of my problems though.
I have been blessed with amazing parents. I now have the love of my life in Suzy. My life is rather good despite alot of setbacks and health problems. A friend of mine commited suicide recently...I just found out today. She suffered from depression, however she had an amazing job, college graduate, very attractive, terrific athlete and a great personality. She also had a nice family and good friends. She would help anyone...often did volunteer work. She has a life I can only dream about. I just don't understand why someone like her...a real role model and the type of person this society needs...would take her own life. I am confused, befuddled and feel lost. We were not close friends, and I haven't seen or talked to her for years. But the time we spent together as friends were very nice and enjoyable. What am I missing here? How come some people with difficulties (and we all have them) can seem to cope, and some can't? Any answers? |

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Sometimes the darkness consumes some of us so deeply that the only solution, comfort we can find is death. I know this isn't exactly a great answer but it is what it is.

mb...
All I can say is that she must have felt very desperate to do that. She probably felt as if she was in a corner with no help in sight. It's so sad to know that she was not able to get any help. I've know people that have had depression and were at times suicidal...thank God they are still with me. Even though it seems as if she had a "wonderful life", she was probably very tormented to take her own life. I am very sorry for your loss.... -Joanne |

Hi MB,
When a person takes their life, they are at the point where they can see nothing but sadness...they are mentally unstable........no matter what type of picture they present to the world....I learned this the hard way, when my hubsand took his own life........I know why he took his life, but prefer not to go into it here....it is something that you may never understand, but something that you learn to accept, and live with. Nothing you could of done would of stopped this because the person is determined to do this...that is what the counselors and the police told me. We all wish that we could of helped them, but when they make up their mind, there is no stopping them. Pam |

Thanks for the kind responses. I know my question is somewhat rhetorical, and I will never understand why....but it seems the circumstances here are bizarre. I don't mean foul play, but she really had it all together..or so it seemed. She was an amazing person. All I can do is shake my head...thanks again for your kind responses.

my friend that is so hard to answer because each individual is a different universe.
We would need to analyze it in a case by case basis, and it's impossible. I know I should not talk about this in this section, but i think it's necessary. Sometimes this people with a "wonderful" life lack of God (not talking in specific of ur friend). We as human beings need to learn to see the light at the end of the tunnel, that is the only way to find hope, and overcome depression. Most of the people take pills to overcome depression. That's not the solution, it's just a sedetive the underlying problem is there. And the only manner to overcome is face it. But in order to do it we need to be strong. And that strenght just comes from God. God bless you all TLW |

Here is a site http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&p=suicide+helpline&SpellState=n-2155313391_q-2xnclyVXPBtaQv3AYNs3rgAAAA%40%40&fr2=sp-top
On this very subject. I can say at one point in my life or another I too felt depression hit me really really bad, so bad when I was on meds to help me out those same meds almost keyword almost made me kill my self but that was a long long time ago. I'm sorry for your lost, but some people have really bad or personal things they don't tell any body at all and just keeping it to them self's. Bottom line is she is in a better place even if she had some personal problems in her life she didn't share with you etc. I mean surely I have had and still have health issues but I am not gonna go kill my self at least not that I know of yet, but anything could happen. I can't answer the unknow. But what I do know as of today / tonight noting better then trying to make life, not just life but a better life and even growing up and meeting somebody you care about and falling in love and having kids and seeing them grow up etc. I know your probably in pain and confused and left with all the unknow answers like many people who do this type of thing, they don't know they not only hurt there friends and family as well as any loved ones etc by killing them self. it's sad, but hopefully you find time to move on when that time is right over this sad day for you and or bit of news you had gotten. Best of luck and sorry to hear this. |

sorry to have to say it, but have worked with this type for a lot of years. she was working doing a lot of volunteer work, if she did not take time out for herself, everything she did was to try and keep her mind occupied, keep her from thinking about something she was missing in life.

Nobody can honestly say, because the person that took their life can't come back and tell you why they did it. Its that simple.
Could it be as obvious as this?? We have the need to be connected, these are seemingly disconnected people, whether its noticeable or not. Suicide is a self serving act. Sorry about ur confusion/loss. take care. |

However some or most people may show no signs of feeling suicide, what I mean is even if they maybe or seemly disconnected to a person there most close to rather that's a friend or love one it doesn't mean there going to shout and say hey I'm feeling this way and I'm gonna do so and so and then bang.
But there is a good chance any body who is suicidel that they have said or may have shown some type of sign that there end is near. I mean some keyword etc. Hell you can be perfectly fine one minute to another and be around a good number of people and bang your gone, no body has any answers. It's sad but the truth be told no body really has the real answers to what that person was thinking before they went and killed them self's. Not unless that person went on record or left a note behinde etc. |

Thanks again for all answers and insights...I guess we are all responsible for our own lives and noone can stop anyone else from doing what they want or intend to do. It is sad, but true.
