You really stirred up a hornets nest there sweety.

America like any other country has it's problems, especially in the large cities. But most Americans are darn proud of their country.

well you sure summed it up!! and i feel the same way. it is refreshing to hear you speak thanks!! honestly i bite my tongue about it all.. but sometimes i will let loose.. and people from other places that have this fairy tale of life here dont seem to understand... i say cheers to you josiedrinker drinker and i would of said hello to you.. and reached out to learn a bit about your country.. as helped best i could with your questions about mine.. sorry your trip wasnt the fairytale that you were led into believing flowerforyou

No No No No, my trip was fantastic, i loved it, and the people who i met where lovely, just different,

it was like a fairytalke, as everything was so pretty and white like in a dream, I had the best time and am coming back.

but I grew up in a tiny place, where there wherent heaps of people and we relied on each other for most things, so when i got to the big cities, they where a huge shock.

Not a bad shock just a shock. obviously I wouldnt walk around one as i cant even find my way around your shopping centres as they are huge.

Australian big cities are probably the same. It was just a general question.

Like last night I was looking at land around america and it had remote on them, and when i was talking to anaconda and said i would like to buy something remote, a few hours away from a town he said that towns arnt that far away from each other, where here, remote means hours away from anyting, theymight be four hours from the closest town. Over there it is half an hour, it is really hard for me to get it into my head that everything is so close. That is just one of the differences, it doesnt mean I dont like it, just that its a shock.

Actually Alaska is that remote!

Fair dinkum, I surely did.

I think I have chucked myself in the deep end here.

I am sorry if I offended anyone it's not what I was trying to do.

Darn it, as I have said a milion times I really liked your country and I was curious.

Gosh every country has problems, our interest rates are way over yours, our land is way more expensive, our food is dearer, your cars are just about given away. Our cost of living is huge compared to what i saw over there.

We live in a place where we are in each others pockets, everyone knows what I am doing before I do.
My home and family are everyones business, My life is an open book, not just because i let it be, but here if it wasn't people would think I was stuck up. Everybody chucks their 2 bob in, when they feel like it. i dont know if all of australia is like it but here is.

And yep we probably are to direct in what we say or how we say it, but its not how I meant it to sound.

And metalwing I love the sound of Alaska , I am going there one day as well, but not in winter.

I'm sort of not game to say to much moretongue2 tongue2 which is probably a first for an australian, as we are pretty used to putting our foot in it. We are always taking the Mickey out of someone and laughing it off..Not too used to anyone actually getting serious about anything.

Well after coming home from a
america, I was really shocked.surprised

I had grown up believing that it was THE LAND OF THE FREE. what

what But what the heck does that meanwhat

I left a country that I thought was having trouble.
I arrived in a country that I saw trouble everywhere.

I left a country where we talk to everyone,
I arrived in a country where its like nobody is game to talk to you.

I left a country where, where if you want to get up off your butt and work then your opportunities are limitless.
I arrived in a country where it seems you opportunities to succeed are limited.

I left home knowing that my children can leave school at 16 or 18 ifhey choose and walk into a good job here and not have to worry as long as they put in the effort.
I arrived in a country, that it seems like the children are in school forever and even if they want to work, they still may have trouble. and if their marks are not great, then their options are limited.

I left home feeling able to walk around without a worry.
I arrived to a place where everyone tells me to be careful , but of what, someone stealing my bagsurprised my stuffsurprised but why, , dont put your stuff downslaphead I dont want to carry it forever.
dont be to friendly. Well what am i supposed to do. Honestly dont this and dont that. i felt like i was 2.

I stopped and asked a soldier for his picture, and it seemed like i had shocked the poor boy just by asking. Why, I was just being friendly. And i wanted his picture. surely this is not strange.

I talked to a navy man for 2 hours on a plane who thought australians where friendly becasue I told him my life storywhat Well what else do you do, when you sit next to someone. hmm now he is coming to australia to visit us on his next trip. soo cool i made a new friend, but it was like peole dont just make random friends.

The next plane I made friends with an Architect, (cant spell it) and he and his wife both have to work to be comfortable, but there daughter struggles inschool and they are worried about her when she is older as she wont have as good an oportunity with out a great education. What happens over there to all those children who dont, have the schooling, how do they cope. We dont need it here.

Hmmm then I found that although everyone was wonderful, people seem trapped in there own little prisons, its like everyone is too scared to smile or let peole see who they really are inside.

When did you all dance in the street, or run around inthe rain, or just giggle beceu you could. or stop and chat to someone you dont know for an hour or two. Or ring a wrong number and make new friends.

anyway, what doyou think that THE LAND OF THE FREE MEANS.
Just it didnt appear free when i was there. so what do you think it actually means.

I'm afraid we as a country have forgotten the fundamentals....there are a lot of impositions on how things are supposed to be done..the reason for higher education is because the blue collar jobs have mostly been outsourced..those that remain don't offer much reward, except that having a job nowadays is a reward in and of itself...

The land of the free is now nothing more than an idea...as this country has so prospered that that ideal isn't ideal, oddly enough, for our mindset as a country....but "the streets are still paved with gold" for those with ambition..without expectation...for those who know what its like to not have anything and haven't grown up to learn to accept...

Actually Josie where you live sounds great and I'm sure it is far away from all the big city's that all the crowds go along with... Country life is the best no matter what country you live in. Your lucky to have that opportunity for you and your family. I live in the city and would trade it in a heart beat to live out on about 200 acres or more away from all the fast pace and crowds......

To me the perfect life would be to live out in the country where I could have horses again and just enjoy nature and the slow pace of life...... away from all the crowds and crime..... that you find in the large towns....

Just enjoy where your atbigsmile
