"Land of the free" My opinion only

Free to some, means something different to others. Ese gave an accurate description shared by most in America. In summary, Free to express yourself is a treasured way of life for North Americans. Being armed to defend your individual rights is purely an American way of thinking. I would suggest watching "gangs of New York" (very violent). It depicts an accurate scenario of life back then. Different groups of immigrants jockeying for influence and power. THAT is America! then and now.

In Australia, the arrival of the First Fleet of British ships to establish the penal colony of New South Wales in 1788 also shaped the country with future slave inmate labor. It's surprising to me how Australia isn't more violent because of IT'S past?

To me, freedom means.... being able to let kids play in the park unsupervised, it means We can leave our houses and cars unlocked, It means....We can own nice things, it means... we can communicate, walk at night, disagree with someone without fear of being shot point blank, it means... if I see an elderly lady fall in the street I can help her without fear of being sued. It means having a government who will govern properly and let us live without over taxing us.

Let's just say in Canada, we have limited freedoms based on the above
I call it home and couldn't imagine living elsewhere.

this government does take care of people, but people who are sick like your friend get left to live under a bridge by people who abuse the system. unfortunately the system lets people play by the honor system, and some people are not honest. the government knows people lie on government assistance program forms, but they don't shut the system down because of those people

I agree it does take care of some people. My friend is not sick.
Actually works for the government on behalf of vetrans. I hate politcs know any good jokes.............smokin

The night before their wedding, Alf and Bette were sharing confidences.
Alf said, “You must know something before we get married. I am a fanatic golfer. I eat, sleep and drink golf. Golf is my whole life. After we are married, I’ll try for some balance but I doubt whether I’ll succeed. Just understand - you’re marrying a golf addict.”
“I can live with that,” said Bette, “now I’ll tell you my secret - I’m a hooker.”
“A hooker?” Alf repeated, “I can live with that. Next time, keep your head down and your left arm straight, then swing through the ball....”drinker

I will say this ...

I was discharged E7 and did 2 tours and retired because I was

wounded twice defending the greatest land in the world. It is not a perfect

country to be in but I have seen the other choices and choose to be here.

People in other countries than the USA slam us because they really do not know

the level of freedom we really have or they are just jealous haters.

Either way , I would be your best friend in a fox hole.

If anybody thinks I'm kidding , just give me a call , my number is in

my profile . You can come here to America as my guest and I will school

you in freedom .

land of the free refers to having 18th century 'freedoms' as documented by those founding 'fathers'

free to have weapons, speak as you wish,,,etc,,,

but freedom is never truly FREE when it has to be defined by one class for all other classes of people, the concept politically is just a soundbyte

I think, however, there are nice people and jerks wherever you go in this world, and America is no different. Its just in america, jerks usually get heard from and seen more often because they are louder and more persistent and because it is almost 'un american' to stigmatize them (chastise or say bad things about them) for utilizing their 'right' to be a jerk.

freedom is not just your opinion after a visit.

I admit our Government is far from perfect but we

are still protected under a constitution of rights.

Most true Americans are free regardless of recent

terrorist events. Also big city's here give the illusion

that we are a savage people. Well, I agree certain groups of

people here are ignorant and and a prisoner of their own making.

I spend most of my time in Washington , State in the Great Pacific

Northwest. Just take a look at this video my friends made at out favorite

cliff jumping spot. Next time you come to America , look me up and I will

show you freedom !

cliff jump vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ4thf9J4f8

Yep thats the america i want to see, The fun side,
Hmmm we call it rock jumping, andit is pretty col, we have a huge national park near us with cliffs that people jump off, but they are probably hundreds of meters high most peole have to have drank a fair bit to be game to jump.

Your video was fun.

Well after coming home from a
america, I was really shocked.surprised

I had grown up believing that it was THE LAND OF THE FREE. what

what But what the heck does that meanwhat

I left a country that I thought was having trouble.
I arrived in a country that I saw trouble everywhere.

I left a country where we talk to everyone,
I arrived in a country where its like nobody is game to talk to you.

I left a country where, where if you want to get up off your butt and work then your opportunities are limitless.
I arrived in a country where it seems you opportunities to succeed are limited.

I left home knowing that my children can leave school at 16 or 18 ifhey choose and walk into a good job here and not have to worry as long as they put in the effort.
I arrived in a country, that it seems like the children are in school forever and even if they want to work, they still may have trouble. and if their marks are not great, then their options are limited.

I left home feeling able to walk around without a worry.
I arrived to a place where everyone tells me to be careful , but of what, someone stealing my bagsurprised my stuffsurprised but why, , dont put your stuff downslaphead I dont want to carry it forever.
dont be to friendly. Well what am i supposed to do. Honestly dont this and dont that. i felt like i was 2.

I stopped and asked a soldier for his picture, and it seemed like i had shocked the poor boy just by asking. Why, I was just being friendly. And i wanted his picture. surely this is not strange.

I talked to a navy man for 2 hours on a plane who thought australians where friendly becasue I told him my life storywhat Well what else do you do, when you sit next to someone. hmm now he is coming to australia to visit us on his next trip. soo cool i made a new friend, but it was like peole dont just make random friends.

The next plane I made friends with an Architect, (cant spell it) and he and his wife both have to work to be comfortable, but there daughter struggles inschool and they are worried about her when she is older as she wont have as good an oportunity with out a great education. What happens over there to all those children who dont, have the schooling, how do they cope. We dont need it here.

Hmmm then I found that although everyone was wonderful, people seem trapped in there own little prisons, its like everyone is too scared to smile or let peole see who they really are inside.

When did you all dance in the street, or run around inthe rain, or just giggle beceu you could. or stop and chat to someone you dont know for an hour or two. Or ring a wrong number and make new friends.

anyway, what doyou think that THE LAND OF THE FREE MEANS.
Just it didnt appear free when i was there. so what do you think it actually means.

What happened was America just sat down while Corporations bought out and infected the government.

The above message is brought to you by the Republican National Committee.

Hmmmm Have no idea what the Republican national committee means. But if it is the same as an aussie trying to see what it means to be free to you lot, then yep...

But honestly to me freedome is just being me, Knowing that I am safe, that i can wake up and work to feed my family and that if i am in trouble my country will still stand behind me and help me stand on my feet again, Knowing that my children will have the same oportunities that I have had,

Here we dont have to be highly educated to get ahead, yet i saw so many peole worried about their childrens education, if my children finish highschool great, but if they leave and start a trade at 16 i think that is fantastic, actually i would probably rather them leave early, as I dont see that the highlly educated get it any easier , and sometimes it seems harder, Here I dont think most of our kids go through to finish highschool as they leave and start their jobs. Some do go through if they have something planned but not most.

Honestly I loved your country and had a great time, it was just very different from our relaxed, lifestyle. obviously i live in an unpopulated state, there are 200000 people in a state 2 and a half times the size of Texas, we cannot get enough workers to work, and we help anyone who needs it, if a mates in trouble we are there.

sorry u were unhappy- the land of the free refers to our Declaration of Independence where we declared self governance and independence from England. We started as an English Colony much like Austrailia did and we fought to be free. our soldiers had no uniforms and were often boys of 16, 17 armed with pitchforks (for stacking hay), we had little weaponry for much of our freedom fight, we fought like guerillas - BTW for those of u who hold anything against Native Americans - learn respect - we won the revolution partly due to the guerilla warfare tactics we learned from them- our soldiers had no food, some no shoes much less boots, and many deserted because of the harsh conditions but we fought, won what we needed, persevered and won.

the land of the free refers to our right to self govern
freedom from the rule of oppression (an oppressive Monarch, King George - at the time)
freedom from taxation without representation
freedom to worship as we choose
freedom of conscience - to think and hold our own opinions - the government cannot tell us what to believe
and the related freedom of religion - unheard of at the time we proclaimed it here- immigrants came to our shores in droves (and still do - so we can't be all bad) just to be able to practice the religion of their choosing - Catholics from Germany & England, hugenot protestants and puritan pilgrims , Quakers from England and France, Amish & German Baptists, all here to worship as they chose
freedom of the press and of speech, freedom of assembly - the government cannot stop us frm assembling peaceably even if we are meeting to disagree with our government

and these freedoms (and more -I'm sure I left something out) are protected by law in our Bill of Rights as amendments to our Constitution

I am sorry you did not like it here. we are not perfect -we're big global players, and it can be a burdensome responsibility - policing the world is expensive and it's taken a toll on our economy, but what to do? Let Serbian women and Iraqi children die in the streets? I think not.

and I realize there are critical opinions about our global policing - and yes we do not conduct it perfectly-and it is more than just human rights - our security is also at stake, but we protect so many - I feel we deserve at least to be able to protect ourselves

sorry this is so long. I hope this helps

happy

in this country anyone can go anywhere and say anything or do anything they want. people can express themselves in any way shape or form that they choose. as long as those expressions do not infringe on the right of others to do the same. you don't have to like what another person is doing, but you don't have the right to stop him from doing it. in other countries if you don't like something and you complain about it the government will suppress you mercilessly. here the government will protect you and allow you to voice your complaint. sure the economy is bad, and education is suffering, and programs are failing, but not because of freedom. any company with bad management suffers. freedom isn't about leaving the keys in your car and your front door unlocked, or walking around befriending everyone you see. it's about being able to buy a car, house, or whatever you see and suddenly can't live without, and put yourself in debt with anything you want without the government limiting you. or traveling from state to state without the government stopping you and asking you what diabolical scheme you are plotting. when i joined the marine corps years ago it was because i believed that these freedoms for everyone were worth fighting for. i believed i could stand up and fight for all those who could not (or would not) fight for themselves. i don't believe in everything everyone else believes in, but i will fight for their right to believe in it. you can judge america all you want, hate it even, but if you ever get government suppression for expressing that belief, it won't be in america

happy happy I Loved America and really didnt want to come home, I was just curious as to what people saw freedom as, We are very simple in the country here, I made some fantastic friends, but it is different to here.
I had never been to another country before, and found it a shock,

You obviously didn't come to Texas! I just spent three days talking to people I didn't know, making friends, dancing in the street and (a little bit) walking in the rain.

When I was in Australia, I was surprised how much it was like Texas in decades past. Texas is rapidly becoming more like Mexico because of millions of illegals and more like the Northern and Eastern United States because millions are moving to Texas for jobs and a better life.

The "official" motto of the State tourist bureau is "Texas ... like a whole other country!".

The word Texas is from the Tejas Indians which means "friendly".

When I drove to Alaska and came to the Canadian border the border guard looked at my passport and "From Texas huh? Do you have any guns? I said "of course, I'm from Texas!" They looked at my guns and decided that I couldn't bring one of them in because it looked "scary" (they had to call in a supervisor to make this call!) so I had to turn around and leave it at a convenience store till I came back!

Coming back from Alaska, as I crossed the border from Canada back into the US, the US customs agent looked at my passport and asked, "Do you have any guns?" I replied, "Of course, lots of them. I'm from Texas!" He just shook his hear and waved me through.

I am planning on coming back and seeing every state, not the big cities but all through the other parts. i want to meet heaps of people and do different things, Poor anaconda is going to be caredt around his country until I have seen it all.

The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave.

This land is my land, this land is your land from east to west and North to South,,as far as you can see in every direction.
THIS IS OUR ROOTS, OUR LIVES, OUR FOUNDATIONS TO GROW AND BE.
WHERE our fathers, fathers , fathers have lived, worked, loved, and died. Where as a Country, WE HAVE SHOWED OUR POWER, OUR MERCY.
BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN HAVE DIED TO PROTECT EVERYTHING WE HAVE HERE TO CALL OUR HOMES.
WE HAVE EVERY NATIONALITY HERE LIVING GROWING AND FINDING LOVE.
WE HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN ANY OTHER NATION FOR ITS PEOPLE TO STRIVE.
WE LIVE IN HOMES UNLOCKED, CAR KEYS LEFT IN ITS IGNITION, KIDS PLAYING ALONE IN THEIR YARDS AND SIDE-WALKS.
NO BULLETS FLYING BY OUR HEAD, WE"RE NOT WALKING OVER OUR DEAD.
MISSALS NEVER COME THROUGH OUR AIR, WE DON'T EVER JUST DISAPPEAR.
WE LIVE PROTECTED, NOT BEING SUFFOCATED.
YOU CAN'T JUST BE SHOT FOR WALKING BY, DON'T EVEN THINK TO TRY.
WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO EARN MONEY, AND BUY WHATEVER WE WANT.
WE NEVER HAVE TO ASK IF THATS OK, OR HAVE TO FIND GAME TO HUNT.
THIS IS MY LAND,THIS IS MY WORLD, THIS IS ALL THAT WE MAKE IT TO BE.

Now as for how it is now, its NOT easy,
How it looks now, IT LOOKS ROUGH,
How it feels talking to strangers, THEIR DEPRESSED.
How it IS TO BE A PART OF IT, IT FEELS FREE!
No CHAINS UPON MY LEGS OR ARMS.
NO WAKE UP SOUNDS OF ALARMS.
NO ONE TELLING ME I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING.

So life is what we ALL let happen to make it change.
And I know we shall work together to make this life better.
AND THAT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,IS FREEDOM,,and FREE TO CHOOSE OUR WAY.

Just my humble thoughts at the moment,,, drinker smokin

the republican national committee has something to do with sponsoring a Presidential Candidate for the republican Party and the Republican nomination/convention - for the presidency- but I hate politics so that's as much as I know about it

Our other major political party is the democratic - and I believe they have their own collection of soup stirers

flowerforyou Really i know that you all fight for freedom, you really are all that stands between australia and anyone else taking us over, we may be under the queens banner, but it is america we call when we are in trouble, Actually really America is who all of the world calls when they are in trouble.
My son in law is in our army and i love all of you for putting you lives up for us.
America is a great country i didnt doubt that, people laugh at us as a country and really we are way behind most of you, and some of the things that happen here are laughable, we laugh at ourselves.
Our headlines last week where of a man hit in the head with a pink dildo, we are the capital city of our state and that is the most life threating event in our city slaphead i wonder about our city myself at times.
