Starting the midpoint in season sixth, Prentiss receives news of an old nemesis. It is certain he is on the "hunt" for her, though it is not revealed to be good or bad.

I have a bad feeling she is going to be killed...........She should just turn in her badge and marry Hotch..........

Her role in the show's sixth season has been reduced, for what Brewster believes to be financial reasons.

While all of the petitioning from Criminal Minds fans couldn’t save A.J. Cook from being wrongfully fired from the series, it appears that we haven’t seen the last of Cook’s lovable character Jennifer Juneau. This spring, Cook will be returning to Criminal Minds for a single episode.

Last summer, the Criminal Minds fandom rightfully revolted against the brash, thoughtless decision from the “powers that be” to terminate Cook’s contract with the series.

While departing cast members is not uncommon in television or for this series (Mandy Patinkin and Lola Glaudini both left previously), Criminal Minds has been criticized for their obvious and ongoing trimming of female cast members. Unfortunately, J.J.’s character reprise does nothing but confirm the accusations.

Cook’s return is neither a sole character piece nor a welcoming return for her character. Instead, Cook will be returning for former co-star Paget Brewster’s final episode. Facing the same fate as Cook, Brewster’s character Emily Prentiss was given a smaller role in this season of Criminal Minds, only to be completely written off midway through.

As fans will undoubtedly be happy to see Cook return to the BAU, the fact that it correlates with Brewster’s final episode somewhat dampens any potential joy. Fortunately, Criminal Minds fans are not the only ones unhappy with the way the series had chosen to release select female cast members. Kristen Vangsness, who plays the lovely Penelope Garcia, had a few choice words about this when we talked with her last July.

“It certainly didn’t feel good and certainly doesn’t make you feel like, ‘Oh, everybody’s ok!’ It makes you very aware that it’s a job and if they need you, they keep you, and if they don’t, they fire you.

Not that [Cook’s] not necessary! But, someone made a decision that she was not necessary and that’s a bad decision – in my opinion. My job, I did not choose to be “whoever makes these decisions” and that’s their choice. It’s like you’re living in someone’s rental and they get to decide who stays and who goes — and it BLOWS!”

Perhaps it’s Vangsness’ sidekick-esque nature on the series or the fact that fans absolutely love her character, but Penelope Garcia seems to be the only female character that’s safe for any transition to the Criminal Minds “boys club” that appears to be forming. In fact, Vangsness will now be pulling double duties as her character will also appear in the Criminal Minds spin-off, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.

Even if it’s for a single episode and even if it’s brought on by the departure of another female cast member, it will be nice to see A.J. Cook return to the series. Of course, whether or not these calculated character dismissals will mark the beginning of the end of this series still remains to be seen.

Criminal Minds- From Deadline Hollywood - Will Paget Brewster be back on Criminal Minds next season? CBS certainly hopes so, I hear the network recently gave her an offer to return to the crime drama as a full-fledged regular next season. But as part of her modified deal for this season, in which she was asked to scale back her duties as a regular on the show (though she ended up being in every episode so far), Brewster was allowed to do a pilot for next fall, and she is using the opportunity. Brewster has already been approached for 3 Fox comedy pilots. She has comedy history at the network, having co-starred in the underrated Andy Richter Controls the Universe and done voice-over work on American Dad. Brewster is free to do pilots at any network/studio, but because CBS and ABC Studios, which produces Criminal Minds with CBS TV Studios, want her back on the show, I hear CBS, ABC and their studios will be refraining from offering her pilots to not compete with Criminal Minds for her services. "We'd hope that she would stay, she has the option to do so,"CBS' entertainment president Nina Tassler said at TCA last month.

Because of her situation, I hear Brewster's storyline on Criminal Minds this season will end with a cliffhanger that will allow the producers to bring her back or write her off if needed.

Brewster is not the only Criminal Minds cast member whose return to the show next season is uncertain at the moment. The deals for stars Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore are up at the end of this season and I hear the two are nowhere near new pacts. Matthew Gray Gubler and Joe Mantegna have another year on their contracts, though I hear Gubler has been seeking a salary bump. Kristen Vangsness got a new deal in the summer as she also co-stars on the Criminal Minds spinoff.

I hope she ends up staying and hope JJ comes back. Shemar and Gibson better not go anywhere.

Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore has ripped into the hit show’s lead actor Mandy Patinkin, who he feels has left the show in a lurch by parting ways with the dark CBS ensemble drama. ‘I just don’t like that he did what he did the way that he did it,’ the sexy star confesses to OK!. ‘It’s just improper etiquette. He slapped us in the face. He simply didn’t show up for work and hasn’t told us why.’ Shemar is particularly perplexed because the two shared a recent press junket to promote Criminal Minds in the Mediterranean resort city of Monte Carlo – and Mandy gave no indication he wanted to quit. Still, he revealed the actor was a tortured soul on the set: ‘Mandy’s a volatile personality. He had his good days and he had his bad days. Sometimes the content of what we did would affect him. Bottom line is, he didn’t show up to work – with no warning. He didn’t tell anybody he was going to do this. I’ve left him messages [but] he’s just not speaking to anybody.’This isn’t the first time Mandy has departed a hit series – he left the medical drama Chicago Hope during its second season right after winning an Emmy. Shemar said Mandy, acclaimed for his work in Broadway musicals, had a hard time dealing with television. ‘He would say to me that he was always uncomfortable as an actor. When he sang, he felt free. He’s an emotional guy. Sometimes he was the strongest, proudest man in the world — and sometimes he was very much like a little child and you almost got the sense you had to take care of him.’Photo: Wireimage.com
