Yes and still the highest by far in unemployment. And that's ONLY for those who can still collect. Every month, people are being laid off in 30 -50 size groups at the different industries, including the casinos, every one is doing OT- IF they re working because no one will hire any body. It's real rare if they do.
There is NO work here, the min industry, tourism died off, gambling is everywhere now. Construction is way off, have lots and lots of homeless here now, not a very kind state to those who they've kicked to the curb.
You guys are not getting this on the news, Nevada doesn't want to discourage anyone from coming here, but I've dealt with SO many new people coming here looking to buy big or get that job and there's zip. Yea, there's houses out there to buy, but the banks are not lending the $, it gets real discouraging for people I know in the field. They aren't making anything except a short sale and even that's treacherous for all parties involved.
So what is my talent here today?
Warning the people who are planning to come to Nevada to 'make it big' in the squeeze that you're gonna be stuck like the rest of us and hurting for all the things you take for granted now. Most companies have left also, gone 'home' as they say, so many empty shopping centers, no stores in some of them..always one or two empties in every stretch you see. 6 months free rent, they have plastered all over, and in prime location. Come for a visit before you move here. Nevada will be pretty much the last on the list to get it's act back together, they've cut the police depts and school staff down when crime and teaching is crucial. No arts. No gym, nothing outside the basics... so think long and hard before you jump to Nevada. I've been here when Henderson was the fastest growing comm. in the US 14 years ago and hopefully will be able to move out somday if I can sell myself.
