(IMDb)The lonely, shy and lesbian etymologist Ida Teeter of The McNaughton Museum of Natural History is obsessed by her "pets", actually her collection of insects. She works with her colleague and friend Max, also her advisor in sexual behavior. Ida receives an anonymous package from Brazil with an unclassified insect but the weird bug breaks free from the box. Meanwhile Ida falls in love for the gorgeous Misty Falls, who is bitten and infected by the bug and moves to Ida's apartment. When Ida receives letters from her former Professor Malcolm Wolf explaining how the insect reproduces and transforms the animals he bites, Ida is apprehensive about Misty.

Can you imagine being in that creepy asylum at night where it was rumored to have been the birthplace of the pre-frontal lobotomy?

I don't even want to be in it during the dayscared

It looks like a lot of construction is going on there.

MY SOUL TO TAKE (2010)

You know. Normally when a horror film is helmed by the "Master" Wes Craven, you tend to feel secure that the film will be good. I know directors can have movies that they totally just muck up. Well...consider this film to be Craven's muck up. And he mucked it up bad (and not in a good way).

If the opening segment doesn't have you going "Am I high on shrooms", then perhaps you have died and gone to heaven or hell. I have never seen one dude (regular ordinary dude. Not super duper Freddy or Jason) take a shot to the head, then several in the chest, and then be strapped down to a gurney, escape that to cut a chicks throat and almost....ALMOST....escape before he gets killed. Sorry if I spoiled it, but trust me. When you watch it, you will either be looking for the shrooms, gnawing your arm off, or jacking it to porn on your Iphone. Either way, your gonna just lose all hope for this movie. And trust me....it doesn't get better.

Here is the gist of the plot. Riverton has a serial killer, and he happens to be in the body of a nice, family dude with schizophrenia. I say nice family dude because dude is trying to fix himself. But his other self (the other soul) loves to kill, and so this bad soul (yes. This soul has a voice that sounds like any demoic sound you have heard in a horror film before. Why can't we try something different? Say...Justin Beiber's voice on roids? That would be scary right?) makes a deal with the good dude. Kill people, and good dude's family lives. Awesome right? Anyways, I already told you about the opening segment, so let's skip forward.

Seven kids were born the night that the Riverton killer was....killed. Can you guess where this is going? Cause, if you can, then once you watch this movie, it won't take you long to figure out which one of these seven the "Bad Soul" (Yup. He LIVES!) possesses.

Kids gets killed, no sex, and oh yeah...the main kid character (of the seven) has an awesome name. Bug. Yup. Bug is gonna either kill em all or save the day. Either way, I knew the movie was done for once I heard his name. How can you take a guy with the name "Bug" seriously...be it killer or hero? Simply....you F'n can't!

I'm guessing that once this film wrapped shooting, Craven realized he had made a piece o' crap, and then frantically called studios to pitch Scream 4. If that is so, then I guess My Soul To Take did serve a purpose.

Loved the review, Goof!

I've enjoyed many of Craven's films, BUT after seeing his horrendously bad Hills Have Eyes 2(the one from 1984), and Shocker, I now go into his films with very very low expectations, of course he still surprises me with films like New Nightmare, and Scream 1 and 2(3 was decent),but he still makes some stinkers like Cursed. One of his bad films I love is Deadly Friend, it's a great "so-bad-it's-good" slice of 80's cheese.

But seeing trailers for My Soul To Take, eh, it just looked like a variation of Nightmare On Elm Street, and Shocker. So I passed.

My personal favorite Craven movie is the original Hills Have Eyes, and I think his most underrated film is The Serpent And The Devil.

I'm a huge fan of McKee, May is brilliant, I love The Woods. And he gave a brilliant performance as the title character in Roman. I'm looking forward to his new film Offspring: The Woman, which he cowrote with author Jack Ketchum. McKee also did an excellent job adapting Ketchum's book Red.

It seems to me that Craven does his best work when he doesn't write the script. He wrote My Soul To Take, and sweet Paris Hilton on a meth attack. It was horrendous!

Kevin Williamson (a dude who so had the pulse of the 90's teen angst) wrote the Scream films, of which the first (to me) is a classic. He and Craven worked so well together (and I'm happy both are back for Scream 4). I do believe that Craven wrote New Nightmare, which I felt was one of his more creative films.

Anyways, Craven seriously tried to hard to take a lot of ideas and cram them into one film. About halfway through the film, I wanted Satan to come and take my soul, as I felt damned just for watching it. laugh

That's why I was so disappointed with Cursed, I figured how could you go wrong with Williamson and Craven teaming up again...well you can. And Scream 3 I enjoyed, but I missed Williamson's involvement.

Like his directing, Craven doesn't always deliver with his scripts, he did some great scriptwriting in the past- New Nightmare(like you said), the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Hills Have Eyes, Deadly Blessing...

And now...another review......

DEVIL-

Five people trapped inside an elevator, one of whom is possessed (or I guess IS) the...wait for it....wait for it....Da Devil. Seems ol' Satan is now tired of having his demons come and do his work. Not sure if he is cutting back on employess (stock prices down due to increased occupancy in Hell?) but Satan decides that it's time for him to go to....PHILADELPHIA! Yeah. Motwownphilly is calling the Prince of Darkness, and we all owe it to M. Night Shymalan.

Yup. Mr. M. Night, the man who loves to use Philly in his movies, is the producer of this film. This gave me some hope of the movie being descent. Alas....Devil just proves that anything M. Night touches turns to crapola.

You have a black security guard, an old woman, a woman in her thirties, a matress salesdude who "knows people", and a regular dude who is obviously hiding something. All five get into an elevator for the next 80 or so minutes, they play "Holy crap. We are dying one by one, and one of us is doing it, but the lights go out, weird stuff happens, and we simply cannot figure out who the killer is. But one of us did it. WTF????". That might sound silly, but that is the plot for this movie. Also, the fact they are being watched by security guards who have this whole "religious debate" about...you guessed it...the devil, only serves to give you pee breaks for the movie. Basically, here is how the convo goes.

Hispanic guard- "They are being hunted by the devil"

White guard- "The Devil? You mean M. Night?"

Hispanic guard- "Yeah man. My Mom's warned me about him."

White guard- "Crap. My movie career is over now that I am in this movie."

Hispanic guard- "Those five should just commit suicide now, and save movie goers there hard earned cash."

Anyways, so the film comes down to one elevator person left alive...until one of the dead elevator people comes back....AND IS THE DEVIL. We then get a confessional scene. Ok. Now, I seem to remember the Devil being a bad azz. Back in the Bible days, he was wrecking stuff up. But now...in this day and age...he wants to do confessions? Oh my GAWD! Hell No! I want the old Devil back. Mass killings, genocide, more porn. Bring back the Devil that is totally rad. Not this version. Thanks M. Night! You phucked us over!

Did you like it?

I'm a fan of this one, saw it in the theater when it was released. Stephen King was originally supposed to play the Brad Dourif role.

I recall an interview with Tom Savini saying he, Clive Barker, and another horror name were teaming up to do an adaptation of Graveyard Shift back in the 80's, but they couldn't get funding - I wonder what their version would have been like.

Found Footage Cannibal Slasher 'The Locals'

WetWork Media and Clearwater Productions are set to begin shooting their film The Locals, which takes the current "found footage" horror sub-genre and places it within the familiar territory of the slasher and cannibal film framework. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles.

The Locals is being directed by Eric Anthony Pereira (who worked on Pirahna 3D's Second Unit), from his script and is being produced by Danny Lopes and Brandon Cottrell. The cast includes Devanny Pinn (Nude Nuns With Big Guns, Song of the Shattered), Danny Lopes (Torture Chamber), Angelina Armani (Laid to Rest II), Angie Savage (Cut), Brandon Slagle (2012: Ice Age, Vivid), Tawny Amber Young (Nude Nuns With Big Guns, Cut), Ryan L. Gilmore, Elske McCain (Jessicka Rabid), Erik Preston (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Meyers), Asia Schneider, Bree Essrig, Matthew Evilsizor, Greg Duke, and Caroline Posada.

"Set in 1987, and told through the lens of two VHS camcorders,“The Locals” is a ferocious and merciless tale of the devastation of a group of young filmmakers who venture into the central California wilderness to film a shot on video slasher movie and soon find themselves systematically crippled, butchered and devoured by a family of feral cannibals who live in the woods nearby."

Watched this over the weekend-

Cropsey is an urban legend that haunted Barbara Brancaccio and Joshua Zeman while they were growing up in Staten Island, NY. In this documentary, the filmmakers return to their childhood environs to investigate the myth about the elusive boogeyman, wacko and supposed satanist who allegedly lived in the abandoned ruins of the notorious Willowbrook Mental Institution, which he used as a base for abducting and killing local children. Ultimately, the discovery of the body of a missing girl proved the legend to be true.

Very interesting documentary, now I did think going in that it would center around the Cropsey urban legend( which inspired the early 80's slasher flick The Burning), but it was still good nonetheless.

Yes, I did. It was not an iconic movie, for sure, but it was pretty decent. Loved Brad Dourif's role as the exterminator. Haha. Especially when he was telling his story to the new guy. :)

I don't think there is a documentary on urban legends, there's a TV series.

I'm still waiting for a decent movie based on The Jersey Devil. We had The Last Broadcast, which is one of the found-footage horror films, it was good, but even though they were supposed to be looking for the creature, they never found it. And Satan's Playground is also about the creature, but Felissa Rose's acting was so bad it was hard to watch.

"The call is coming from inside the house!"

Here's an urban legend that was used a few times in horror films- When A Stranger Calls '79, which also gave us the creepy phone calls with the voice asking "Have you checked the children?", but before When A Stranger Calls, Black Christmas '74 used this theme very effectively. A lesser known film The Severed Arm '73, had a moment when one of the victims, a DJ is at the radio station alone, and is told by the police that the menacing calls he has been getting are coming from inside the radio station.

A Serbian Film Ignites Possible Child Porn Charges

A Serbian Film was one of the most talked about movies of 2010 -- and well, ever -- which is a big feat for a film that has relied mostly on the festival circuit for its publicity.

The movie -- about a veteran porn star who is lured back into the business and eventually gets in over his head -- is a dark and incredibly depressing tale that deals with controversial topics like pedophilia and necrophilia.

Apparently this moved Spain's Catholic Confederation of Family and Student Parents (Concapa) to push the Barcelona public prosecutor to possibly press charges against Stiges festival director, Angel Sala, for exhibiting child pornography.

No official lawsuit has been filed at this time, according to Variety, but it raises all kinds of tricky questions about censorship, and the dangerous mixing of morality and art.

The prestigious Spanish film festival isn't the first group to face issues surrounding the controversial film. Spain's San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival "would have screened 'A Serbian Film' uncut at half-past-midnight in an adults-only session," said former director Jose Luis Rebordinos, but blames the injunction for the reason why the horror fest cancelled the screening.

London's FrightFest pulled the movie from their lineup after the British Board of Film Classification demanded 49 cuts (over four minutes of film).

In general, the film has been labeled unsuitable for theatrical release in most countries. Festival leaders and others are supporting Sala as the case takes shape.

The buzz around A Serbian Film is a reminder that obscenity laws and community standards are not easily determined and should therefore be unenforceable.

While the imagery in Serbian Film is unpleasant, measures were taken to ensure that the movie was responsibly screened to adult audiences. Although the subtext about corruption surrounding the Serbian government was unsuccessful (to me, anyway) and has become lost in the obvious and sensationalistic subject matter that the people like the folks in Spain are shrieking about, obscenity charges surrounding the film are more shocking than the images of a child (a doll in one scene, and animatronics in another) being raped.

http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/07...-porn-charges/
