Just added The Embalmer to the ones I've seen in the set. Boring mid 60's Italian flick about a cloaked man kidnapping women and embalming to preserve them. Good idea, just badly executed.

I have to agree. The concept is actually a good one and has many possibilities. This actually reminded me of After.Life, but could have had more of the horrific twists that was dampened on the other movie.

After.Life? Really?

Only because of the word embalming. I associated it with the morgue and a coroner, which After.Life had, but that's about it.

That reminds me there is a movie from the 60's, I haven't seen it, but it deals with a mortician, I think the film was controversial when it came out. I ran across it a couple of years ago when I was browsing IMdB, but now I can't find it.

Ah, I'm not getting anything, but that did remind me of a 1960's Spanish movie called Las Crueles. :)

Since they weren't mention during the Oscar's In Memorium- here are 2 director/producers who have definitely left their stamp on horror history:

Charles E. Sellier Jr. 1943-2011

Besides producing the Grizzly Adams TV series, and producing several 1970's TV documentaries, Sellier produced genre films including The Boogens and Hangar 18. He is probably most known for directing the infamous and controversial holiday slasher- Silent Night Deadly Night.

Juan Piquer Simón 1935-2011

Spanish director, who has directed such great horror schlock as Pieces(which taught us that you don't have to go to Texas for a chain saw massacre!), and Slugs: The Movie. And fellow Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans will know him as the guy who gave us The Pod People!

So the next time you see a topless Linnea Quigley impaled on antlers by a man dressed as Santa, or the hand of a female corpse grabbing the crotch of a male student...think of these guys.

Eh? They were never mentioned? Sigh.

Well, good you posted, T. Yeah, I know those two and I think they appreciate sincere fans who remember them for their work more.

EXCLUSIVE: Code Red DVD To Release Ghostkeeper

Due to overwhelming demand from horror fans, Code Red has acquired the 1981 Canadian slasher film Ghostkeeper.

A trio of friends on a snowmobile trip in the Canadian Rockies become lost after venturing up a trail during a bad snowstorm. They stumble upon a seemingly abandoned hotel lodge and decide to spend the night, unaware of the grave danger that they have put themselves in.

Internet columnist Amanda By Night says, “this Canadian horror film is slasher and monster lite, but has oodles of snow and deep synthesizer sounds to keep you going. Like ‘Madman’, or more appropriately, ‘The Prey’.”

Director Jim Makichuk is on hand to create extras for this lost slasher.

Street date TBA.

This is great news! Though they're extremely slow on their releases, they always deliver excellent DVDs- of their releases I've seen they're never short on EXTRAS.

Though I am confused, I thought they were shutting down for good this summer, and weren't doing any new DVDs....does this mean they aren't shutting down? I hope they aren't, they've been one of the best DVD companies for releasing rare horror flicks.

Besides the few nominations and wins over the years, horror is pretty much ignored. Last year they did a 4 minute tribute to horror, then this year they say they need to cut down on time so they weren't going to do some of the things they did in the past(of course the first thing on their list was the Horror Tribute)

Holy cow! I had no idea that was the same actor.

I didn't realize Keith Knight, who played Hollis(one of my favorite slasher film characters) in the original My Bloody Valentine also played one of the gang members in Class Of 1984. That shows how good he was, because I sure didn't connect the two.

Also sad to see Knight passed away in 2007 at age 50. RIP Hollis.

I've seen this! When I first watched it, I had no idea what sort of movie it was and I got intrigued by how the story was unfolding. I got someone pegged as the killer and I was right, especially when a couple of some character's verbal exchanges gave the essential clues. But what surprised me was the ending! LOL! I never expected it and that's what made this so memorable. :)

I wonder why they ignore Horror and treat it as an unimportant genre when most of the special effects produced and enjoyed today was created because of it. I'm thinking maybe they want to downplay it, because it might swamp the Drama films they always nominate.laugh

I know Code Red and that they are one of the very few companies who releases obscure titles, and I sincerely hope they won't close down. But I have read some of the "exchanges" that went on between Bill and some critics, so the announcement didn't come as a surprise. I think it's a one-man company? I was more surprised that he was replying so, um, passionately on message boards. But I believe Code Red is more a labor of love, so I can understand why he reacted the way he did.

Anyhoo, I'm also not sure if Code Red is indeed closing down permanently or not. Maybe it was a spur of the moment decision and he's reconsidering?

I knew who the killer was the first moment the character was on the screen, but it's the ending that's the twist.

Hopefully he was just blowing off steam. Yes, it's sad that Code Red has gotten so much hate, instead of looking at the fact that Code Red was releasing movies no other company would have, they focused on the fact of the films, I haven't had any problems with the picture quality.

Horror is considered the lesser of all the genres, many actors will come up with new genres just so they don't have to say they're in a horror film( Instead of saying they're in a horror western, they'll say they're in a supernatural western thriller).
No, we wouldn't dare call Silence Of The Lambs horror, it's a serial killer thriller.

I know! Some made it an integrity issue, saying that CR doesn't deliver the goods on time and as promised. but seeing that it's just a small operation, I wouldn't be surprised about this, if it is a fact, but it is how it is in the business world. In my opinion, he should have marketed his products on his own instead of solely relying on retailers whom he sells to for at-production cost with little to no mark up.

I really believe that when the time comes and horror actually carves its own niche in the awards, which it inevitably will, it will dominate it.

Yeah, besides, Horror is too good for the stuffy Academy Awards. Spike Awards is pretty decent(it airs on the Spike network around October) though it doesn't just focus on horror, also fantasy, scifi, and comic books. Also it's mainly mainstream horror. I'd like to see a televised award show that was all horror, and not just theatrically released horror, but also straight to DVD.

ROFL!!!! My laptop screen now has orange pulp bits. rofl I thought...

Seriously, yes, I would like to see that too! To think how huge the fan base is of the horror genre, they would dominate any awards entirely. The times are changing, things that were not possible before has happened. Why, we even have invisibility materials already that has revised all physics books in existence, so having Horror as an official genre for the Academy or having its own type of recognition is not so far fetched.
