As you can see, I collect lots of antiques. I love old artwork, pictures, frames, some furniture, black and white etchings and drawings, old costume jewelry. I think it's about envisioning the past and who might have had the item and what kind of life they led. I think it's sentimental too, particularly if the item belonged in your family.

I love antique furniture, the craftsmanship, the beauty, the practicality that went into making them.

I walked into an antique store recently and saw an (almost) identical chair to what my grandmother has in her dining room. I say almost because Gramma's chairs are in better shape than the one in the store. I remember Gramma would tell us when we were little that these chairs are older than she is, and one of the very few things that Gramma would yell or scold about was if one of us rocked back on 2 legs on these chairs.

How wonderfully quaint! I love it.

Wood burning stoves and kerosene lanterns.

One of the advantages of living where I do...

Over this coming Summer, I am going to be installing a stove that burns wood pellets. I'll get the wood burning stove smell, but the heat will be more steady because I'll be able to set the auger at the proper speed. Less mess involved too.

Another advantage is that, along with wood pellets, it'll also burn stuff like cherry pits.

They're great, aren't they? My Aunt who lives in Allegan, MI still has one and uses it occasionally.

My grandma died when my dad was 12, and my grandpa was my favorite person in the world. He gave me some of her broken jewelry odds and ends when I was in about 4th grade. I later had some of the necklaces fixed. One of them is my favorite of all time, a clear and green crystal necklace. She died in 1939, so it is old, and I love it. Have some old dishes too, and his old dresser from the 40s, and a dining table from the same era.

Yes, I have a few cameos and pins from my grandmother also. Plus a very heavy, beautiful australian crystal double strand necklace of hers. She raised me.

I am fascinated by antiques in general. They give us an insight to those who came before us on so many levels and really helped to mold our world now.

I love the old dishes and look for them at every garage sale I go to.bigsmile

Also still have a cigar box filled with old buttons my granny use to use to sew with.

ditto on the old muscle cars... Chevelle SS, Nova's, Pontiac GTO, Mustangs.... also like the old pickups ...learned to drive in a 1960 Ford with Midnight blue color...rounded top...and had to stomp the clutch down all the way to the floorboard to shift gears . Also like antique sewing machines, old books ...find a lot in library sales...have found editions of classics printed at the turn of the century....
