NO..it's NOT one of those older/younger threads.

What (previous to your birth) strikes your interest?

For the younger it might be rotary phones or TVs without remotes. All apologies..I am in NO WAY making fun of the young. I actually am very interested in what the young revere.

For example: My mother collected "green depression glass" and had a "vanity" filled with purses and make-up pouches from "The Roaring 20s".

I am a student of the Renaissance. I LOVE "Impressionist Art".

What did the people before you....do right?

I am very disturbed that such a refined young English Lass is even aware of The Waltons.

There are several antiques that I fancy actually.;)Last year I acquired one them old fashioned pull down fire alarm boxes(very nostalgic)from my town fire station.I have a pair of ice skates circa 1920's period that a legendary Boston Bruins player had worn;)I would like to acquire a street lantern from my town 1920-1940 era.Oh! Yeah! I mustn't forget to mention that I acquired the top portion of a barber shop pole.Ole Buzzy the Barber,a 1950's model.Very kewl indeed.I can practically hear beyond my grave as my daughters are laughing & mocking this stuff.lol.Look at this old dusty junk that Daddy collected.Ewwwww!look the paint is chipping & it smells musty.lol;)Toss it!!Here put on these gloves first.lmao;)

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but I love those old perfume bottles with the atomizers...they have a hint of femininity and romance to them.

I also love dry sinks, 'member those?!

I love antique furniture, the craftsmanship, the beauty, the practicality that went into making them.

For me it's not just the item itself, but the style of the era. I love victorian style china. I don't like polishing silver though and did away with my silver years ago. I love the delicate forms and feel of china serving sets. But most of all, I like the formality of the tea party. I used to have tea with my daughter when she was very little. I now have tea with some friends once in a while and I have a friend who can make homeade almond biscotti to go with that tea (ha).

Wood burning stoves and kerosene lanterns.

Hear here!!

Some day I'd like to live in a ramote part of the mountains in a tiny cabin with no electricity and grow and raise and hunt my own food, and make my won clothes and stuff from those byproducts, and just live a peaceful, quiet, calm existance. Don't some of those old lamps also burn animal fats? Of course, I could dip tallow candles, too.
I love old candle holders. And poetry books.
