What happened to the most open and transparent government in American history? Hope and Change Baby..

WASHINGTON – The C-SPAN television network is calling on congressional leaders to open health care talks to cameras — something President Barack Obama promised as a candidate.

Instead the most critical negotiations on Obama's health plan have taken place behind closed doors, as Republicans repeatedly point out. In a Dec. 30 letter to House and Senate leaders released Tuesday, C-SPAN chief executive Brian Lamb asked for negotiations on a compromise bill to be opened up for public viewing, as Democrats work to reconcile differences between legislation passed by the two chambers.

Obama pledged during a presidential debate in January 2008 that he would be "bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are."

Harry Reid 2006:

I hate when people try to sneak secret special deals into important Senate bills without debate.

C-SPAN is calling out the Democrats on their promises of transparency.

The man most disappointed in Barack Obama’s broken promise to have health-care reform negotiations televised on C-SPAN is, predictably, the man in charge of C-SPAN. CEO Brian Lamb wrote to leaders in Congress requesting that they open their negotiations on ObamaCare to the public as Obama and Congress pledged, and committed to clearing his broadcast schedule to carry it:

“The C-SPAN networks will commit the necessary resources to covering all of these sessions LIVE and in their entirety,” Lamb wrote. “We will also, as we willingly do each day, provide C-SPAN’s multi-camera coverage to any interested member of the Capitol Hill broadcast pool.”..

Specifically, then-Sen. Obama said on the campaign trail that “we’ll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so the people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who is making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies.”

C‑SPAN has sent a letter to House and Senate leaders asking that negotiations on the health care bill be open to cameras. News reports indicate that the leadership is considering bypassing a formal conference committee in resolving differences between House and Senate versions of the legislation. Identical bills must pass each chamber before a final bill can be sent to the President.

this was just reported TODAY,, wow critics jump fast dont they?

3 more years of Obama should pretty much end America as we know it.I wonder when Obama is going to put forth a bill changing the American flag to one with his face on it.

I put forth two very basic and very simple questions to republicans.

1. What is the purpose of the United States government? Take all the time you need.

2. What is the largest waste product of industrial pollution? And what does this chemical do as far as heat absorption and ever increasing density?

The timeline started when he took office.
This healthcare fiasco is one of the biggest pieces of legislation our country has seen.
Don't you think this would be a good time to start?

no, a timeline has a beginning AND an end
by what time did he promise to do all the work that was needed and promised during his campaign,, did he say, ,I will do this in the first month, first year,,,etc,,,,? HE has to be one of the hardest working presidents of my lifetime and he isnt going to accomplish everything in one year,,perhaps thats a good reason that his position requires FOUR.

So allowing C-SPAN to televise the negotiations is a real dificult thing to do?
How hard could that be?
Wake up and realize the dems DON"T want us to see all the back door deals and bribes going on to BUY votes needed to pass the bill.

I have seen you say this several times.

Once again, I am going to ask you, or anyone else that can, to point out to me what HE has done that makes him so " hardworking "??

I want to know where this perception is coming from.

I dont know how difficult it is,,I have never been a member of congress, senate, the white house, or CSPAN. I am not sure of the paperwork or the procedures. I doubt that every and all negotiations and votes and conferences,,,etc,, could be televised if not because there are so many happening at any given time, than because of the sensitive nature and material that may be involved. A more transparent government doesnt mean a COMPLETELY Transparent government, that would be political suicide as well as an imposition on national security.

I guess if people felt he was promising to make ALL conversations, meetings, votes , etc,,, televised,, they would think he was lying,, I just dont think that is the promise he made...

www.politifact.com

type in OBama,, just by THEIR count,,, he has had 110 completed accomplishments, and upwards of 200 in the works

with the red tape and lengthy process he must go through to pass anything,,I can give him a generous estimate of working ONE issue per day, ,which means he is working practically EVERY day on some issue or another of importance. I know Bush was not so diligent, considering how much vacation time he spent,,

so I make the assertion that OBama is ONE of the hardest working because he actually WORKS ....

What does a timeline have to do with making promises to have an open hearing on health care, allowing cspan to cover it, and then deny cspan their request to cover it and hold the discussions in private? What part of that is escaping you?
