I'm not sure I base a lot on pics.True for me I'd rather see a man clean cut, with clothes on, but thats me.The content of their profile gives a much better insite. Some time you have to read between lines with some.

just curious as to if the guy just wants a fling, why not go to bar and pick up a woman that wants the same? kinda thought a dating site was for ....dating, getting to know someone, finding out what you have in common, not for meaningless sex, if a woman sees a guy with a no shirt pic, it kinda makes them think hes just on here for sex, and maybe thats why all the guys are on here, and dont that kinda ruin it for all the nice guys?

Stop trying to be rational Chilly, it's no wonder you don't understand their behaviour!

But in fairness to them, bars are terrible places to go looking for a woman. Everyone's too guarded.

From what I've seen, the shirtless guys tend to be (not always) those who are looking for instant gratification, rather than an actual relationship. So, a bar would be a great place for them to pick up women looking for the same thing.

I'm looking for an actual relationship, even though I have a shirtless photo. Also, I am far too shy in person (at first at least) to ever be able to approach a woman at a bar. Also, at bars, I find it difficult to determine which women are there with their boyfriends, and which aren't. At least with an online dating site, I know that most of the people here are looking for some sort of relationship.

been on a couple dating sites and wonder why alot of the guys feel the need to post pics without their shirt on, is this a macho male thing? or just guys looking for a one night stand , even though their profiles say looking for long term? very confusing.

Once I posted my half naked body, but since I don't shave my chest, it was deemed a bit offensive and ugly.. so for now on..i'm in a t-shirt on my pics.

hmm you guys all have your shirt on!? funny how we criticize those who value external appearance based on ... external appearance :P ,but the guise of a shirtless man is no mystery. we simply provide a much need contrast to those with shirts on. not every one can be a gentlemen, but those who aren't feels that the display of flesh is a more efficient way to attract attention. and that's just what it is, a way to draw attention should it bring romance or pleasure, it is only a way to gain attention.

As you can see, I did edit my post to say not all, when talking about the shirtless guys. If it's working for you, go for it.

Of course it's a way to attract attention. If it's the type of attention you're looking for, great.

ah but you see that's the fun part :D, the attention gained is a mystery, honestly you would think it only draws in those who are as shallow as the said shirtless man, but not always, sometimes curiosity can lead to a beautiful thing

Then there is the disappointment if you can't see the guy's face. tears

I always see great torsos that seem real (not stock/model pix) -- but his face is covered or cut off -- so I open the profile to other pix of his face ... and scared slaphead

I love being "almost naked" in the summer and I rarely wear winter-type clothing (mild winters). I'm always in the gym, so not much clothing there either. winking

I find this topic funny,

You ask why they do it...but how many times have you clicked on their profile to see more?

also I wouldn't agree that all the guys are looking for the same thing, if they are ripped they have worked to get their why not be proud of it?

What if the guy use to be really overweight and busted his but to get back in shape and he is simply proud of what he accomplished?

Some might be looking for only one thing true...but that is clothed/unclothed. Personally I'd almost think that the guy without the shirt would be looking for something more serious...because if they are honestly in that good of shape and only wanted a one night stand...they could do that without the internet...jmo though.

I'd take them more seriously if more would actually post pictures where we could see their faces. But, if their face is cut off... scared. laugh

Honestly? I rarely click on a guy's profile if he has a shirtless/faceless picture up. Unless maybe they're posting in the forums and actually say something interesting. But based just on the picture? Almost never.

^maybe they live in a hot climate (their own mind) and don't have air conditioning, or maybe they just had a mammogram. Or maybe they are just proud of the many days spent in a gym and like to showcase what they have like the many women who lead through life with their breasts......

Yes it is a macho thing but surely not just a male thing. It is just a matter of bad taste and both sexes are just as guilty. There is no excuse to not have a shirt on when in public except for beaches and the like. Much like there is no excuse for the cleavage shots that are all over on here.
Now while you may say "how prudish is this guy".I will answer this way..My dad taught me that the search was half the fun and I think women that try to impress with physical attributes rather than be true ladies are missing the exploring stage.Men love to explore. Kinda like opening a present..Why are they wrapped....simply for the allure and the mystery..
Keep the clothes on till I check out your heart and brain..jmo
The same goes for men..The v neck t-shirt on an ripped body still gives the message but shows a degree of class.
The sales approach idea will attract the attention that the person wants.

I always picture the guys who cut their heads off in pictures as walking around with paper bags on their head in real life, trying to show off their bodies. laugh

Those I always think are fake pics......I mean why not show your face? unless it just happens that you took the photo from a model/actor that someone would recognize
