who do you think buys the most tobacco and sugar products

ADj, if peole use their heads they don't have to go with out. I am no where near middle class anymore, and I am not hurting one bit by the tax hike in cigs, in fact I am paying so much less for them I should have thought of it before. As for sugar there are many things you can do to cut back on sugar, and it's actually gonna make you healthier. Don't want to cut down an sugar, well then there are still ways to get enough sugar with out freaking out over a few cents.

I live in a town where there are tons of poor people. Frankly they laugh at city folks freaking out. They knew years ago how to live on less and still be quite content. This president is not going to be able to keep every word as promised, even if he still wants to, I am sure he got quite and education on the kind of opposition he was going to get to his promises, so if he doesnt keep a few I am not going to call him a liar.

I've had to break a few promises in my own life, does that make me a liar? No it just means that I wasn't able to keep that particular promise. This president is up against every kind of ugly attitude a human can lay on one person. I admire the fact that he can hold up under pressure like he does.

that is not the issue here

the point is he is raising taxes on the things that more lower income people buy

thus he is breaking his promise

thus he lied

and if ones word is no good

then what good are they

WASHINGTON (AP) - One of President Barack Obama's campaign pledges on taxes went up in puffs of smoke Wednesday.

The largest increase in tobacco taxes took effect despite Obama's promise not to raise taxes of any kind on families earning under $250,000 or individuals under $200,000.

This is one tax that disproportionately affects the poor, who are more likely to smoke than the rich.

To be sure, Obama's tax promises in last year's campaign were most often made in the context of income taxes. Not always.

"I can make a firm pledge," he said in Dover, N.H., on Sept. 12. "Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

He repeatedly vowed "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."

Only the foolish thought that this meant NO taxes. I am an optimist and was smarter than believing that in the government they can separate out the energy or cig tax for only the income of 250,000 or more. Taxes are not even built income oriented except with income and payroll type taxes. So it was foolish to believe that in the first place. I think he meant the income taxes, I took it to mean that he meant the income taxes and payroll type taxes. I never thought of all the other taxes because they are not built to be income sensitive. I knew that much.

It's not even like that at all. It makes sense that taxes cannot be divided by income levels except with income taxes and payroll taxes. People should have known that if they are paying them, right?

I knew it to mean income taxes and payroll type taxes. So I was not lead astray.

a simple statement "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."

"ANY" taxes
thats a broad statement. If i remember correctly those taxes on tobacco were made into law months before he took office. Maybe I'm wrong?

Oh hell Obama is responsible for taxes back 10 years ago too I am sure. Our state representatives couldn't wait to raise taxes locally on cigs and did 2 times before Obama's.

The ball started rolling in Bush's time on that tax for sure. I am not sure if Obama had anything to do with it other than implementing the final version.

and yeah make it for the children and it is ok

we need to execute anyone on social security so the money can be used for the children

and many will agree cause it is for the children
