where did we get the idea that children are to be "controlled"? guided with discipline and love...led in the right direction, yes. taught. children are people, too, and they have a right to their own emotions. just because we don't agree with them, that doesn't give US the right to squash them. what do you call guided guid·ed, guid·ing, guides v.tr. 1. To serve as a guide for; conduct. 2. To direct the course of; steer: guide a ship through a channel. 3. To exert control or influence over. 4. To supervise the training or education of. ------------ #3 says it all 3. To exert control or influence over. a rose by any other name still smells as sweet i go for #s 2 and 4. there are people telling others to shut their kid up on a regular basis...nobody actually thinks a stranger, who has already gone away, is going to come up and harm their child. in a public place. surrounded by other folks. to a baby. it just never enters your mind. |

i wish some of the teachers at my elementary school could be arrested for "child cruelty" as well. what that stranger did is standard, socially acceptable practice in my country.

Stranger accused of slapping crying child at store 48 minutes ago STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Police say a 61-year-old man annoyed with a crying 2-year-old girl at a Walmart slapped the child several times after warning the toddler's mother to keep her quiet. A police report says after the stranger hit the girl at least four times, he said: "See, I told you I would shut her up." Roger Stephens of Stone Mountain is charged with felony cruelty to children. It was unclear if he had an attorney and a telephone call to his home Wednesday was unanswered. Authorities say the girl and her mother were shopping Monday when the toddler began crying. The police report says Stephens approached the mother and said, "If you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you." Authorities say after Stephens slapped the girl, she began screaming.
