Sorry, here the animal control officer is also known as a dog warden.

exactly, and I called the police first. They referred me to the warden, I am assuming because no one was outright physically attacked.

referred you to the warden - aren't wardens the head honchos of the correctional facility?

No local ASPCA, Animal Control???

Here in California its called Animal Care and Control. Sometimes called Animal Regulation. Whatever its called, let them handle it.

Call Cesar the dog whisperer he'll fix those dogs and specially the owner.

No need to hurt anyone or any animals.

No animals attacks or kills for pleasure or revenge (not like human), they do to defend themselves or when hungry.

We humans train dogs to be vicious and guard our special belongings and when after all that training they bite someone we shoot them. That's the human way.

in rural areas, not usually

many counties and parishes just don't have that kind of money. And when they do it's usually just one guy with a pickup and a gun

The ASPCA is good for stepping in when horses are being starved. But thet wont do much about unrestrained dogs outside of the city

my grandmother wouldn't go outside at night without a gun because of the stray dogs and she lived on a farm

If the animal stays in its own yard, only defends from its yard, then I agree with you completely it is not right to harm the animal for doing its "job". However, when the animal leaves it's yard in order to threaten or attack someone who is not in the yard, then I am sorry I can not agree.

It's like with the police. If they shoot, or tazer someone who is posing an immediate threat to them or the public, then I agree they are in the right; however, if they go out and shoot/tazer someone because they are in the general area and minding their own business, then they are wrong, and need to be replaced.

Let em clarify also, that if you are standing across the street, and taunting the dog, but not in the yard, I am sorry but if it breaks the leash and comes for you, it's your own fault not the dogs.

Residents in Old East Dallas say they are fed up with dogs roaming the streets at night killing their cats. They've heard the killings outside their bedroom windows and watched the dogs trot off. But they don't know what to do.
-Dallas Morning News

A three month old baby boy has died after being viciously attacked by two family dogs while in the care of his grandmother.
Police said that the exact cause of death had yet to be confirmed but it is suspected that Jaden Mack was killed during an attack by the grandmother's Staffordshire Bull terrier and Jack Russell.
It is understood that the baby was asleep in a basket on the ground floor of the house when the dogs attacked.

Don't even get me started on dogs not bein leashed in town.grumble Mojo, my german sheppard was in heat last week. She only had a few more days to go. I was bein very deligent about keepin an eye on her. I told my next door neighbor she was in heat. I let her out to potty one night, she wasn't out there 2 minutes, I hear her yelpin an I go runnin out. The neighbor's chocolate lad was locked with her. I went next door an informed him of the situation. I then told him he was gonna pay puppy support that he better start stockin up on the kibble.

He complains if my dog goes an inch into his yard. But yet his male dog runs loose an comes over here an 'marks' everything. Craps in my yard. An I'm suppose to keep my mouth shut. Now I'm gonna be a dang grandma an I ain't keepin quiet about it!grumble

well, looks like the dog warden just drove by. Didn't stop, just slowed down, looked at the house and kept on moving. I will sit back for now, and see what, if anything happens, and take it from there. If, driving by and doing nothing constitutes action from the warden, you can bet I will be filing complaints left right and up the *** to whoever I need to, and will be voting for a different warden when the time comes.

I am a dog lover and have had them all my life, NO responsible dog owner OR lover would let their dog run loose, the animals should be taken from them and given to a good home!!

I agree completely Mikey; I just hope that that can happen before the dogs do something that requires them to be killed (like attacking a child)

As someone that has had the same problem. Be prepared to take photos of the dogs in your yard. 9 times out of 10 the dogs will not be loose when the Animal Control person shows up. Then it's your word against theirs. I would also try the hose before using a gun on the dogs. See if the owner likes letting wet dogs back into his house. I work in dog rescue and if I felt threaten that the dogs would hurt me or my dogs I would consider shooting the dogs as a last resort. I live next to a pit breeder and if they got my dachshunds I would shoot them first & ask questions later.

Why isn't your dog fixed or in a fenced yard?

I am gonna get cameras for my computer to put up on the corners of my trailer to scan the yard and road so I can do just that. Little do the neighbors know, my background is security, and I know how to put together a cctv system lol.

Because I've chosen to breed her. And she's not in a fenced yard because she' a housedog an I don't have a fence. I can't afford to have a fence installed. She was however, on a lead followin city leash laws. His dog wasn't.

I kept my dog was on a lead too and when she was in heat those male dogs don't let anything stop them from getting to a female. I had a three legged male jump my fence to get at her. More than once mind you. Not sayin you were doing anything wrong by the way just making the observation about males around a female in heat.

As for the OP, if the owner does not keep his dogs under control and you end up having to shoot them, I would use pellets or bags, that is his fault.

It is the owners responsibility to have control over their dogs at all times. Just because your dog is the sweetest thing around you and yours does not mean they will not break loose on others.

We have to remember, we don't understand them completely and never will. My dog is the sweetest dog you will meet but I still watch her closely around children and people and other dogs for that matter. She doesn't like bikes or skateboards and will bite who is riding them. Why she has this problem I do not know but it will endanger others.

Dogs can attack for unknown reasons to us so we have to be prepared as owners to make sure that noone gets hurt by our animal.

I say get a pellet gun and start protecting your kids. They haven't bitten yet but it doesn't mean they won't. Only do it when they are on your property though not in the public street.

Killing them though is a bit drastic to me.

two sundays ago, my neighbor across the street opened his door to let two golden retrievers loose (they stand about waist high on me) to run across the street and threaten me and my boys while we were walking to church. He played it off as soon as I turned to the dogs and told them "NO! GO HOME!" and started calling them to come home, though he made no move to come across the street after them. Even though he made a smartass comment afterwards about letting them bite next time, I let it go. Today, the dogs were loose to begin with, and again came across the street to threaten me and my boys in our own yard. They constantly threaten anyone walking down the road, or driving down the road, and anyone in their yards, even when on their chains, which the one breaks all the time.

Today, I called the dog warden about it, who is coming over to get involved. To be honest, if I had a shot gun, I would have gone back inside and grabbed it (sent the kids in immediately as it is).

I only see trouble in the future due to this, but I am not gonna stand by and let them terrorize us or others with their dogs. What do you think?

Call animal control yes, if you are so afraid. I think you are not a dog lover. If you try to get to know the dogs all would be well. Dogs bark, it is part of what they do and why many people buy them for safety.
My dog is always monitored but has on occasion gotten out of his collar or halter. If someone came after my dog with a gun I would shot them first.mad mad
