 The guy got arrested for being in his own home:smile:

Nope! He got arrested for disorderly conduct, which is/was a separate offense on his part.

Had he not had the "chip" on his shoulder, and went along with the standard procedures...all would have been OK.

But, No...he had to go and mention/pull the race card(which was totally un-called for).

I've been on calls, that would have been less of an issue...but some make it worse on themselves, by acting stupid(as Obama says).

I used to tell the person, when he/she started mouthing off..."You can make this easy or hard on yourself...your choice"!

Does being a friend of Bush, and shooting your friend with a shotgun at close range keep you out of trouble?

The beautiful thing about that is the fact that cheyney got his friend to publicly apologizelaugh

mass law enforcement wants an apology from obama and gov

.............Both Obama and Patrick are black, and the president's comment marked his first foray into a divisive racial issue — a striking departure from his "post-racial" impartiality.........

Everybody needs to just get over it...the guy and the cop both need to step up and apologize for their part and move on. They are both so full of pride they just can't do that.... gawdwhoa

A white person can never relate to how black people are treated in the United States.

When Mr Gates realized that the police were there to help, he should have lost the attitude. Not provoke further negative actions on his part! drinks

People are supposed to get arrested for attitudes?

assuming (yup there I go) that you have read the same articles that I have, both were in the wrong.

However, am I right to assume (yup I did it again) that as Mr. Gates was arrested this arrest will forever stay in his record?

what is your point

there are multiple races in the law enforcement community asking for the apology

gates should have been happy they showed up after the call someone was breaking into his house

maybe next time they wont and maybe someone will get hurt

all he had to do was show his id when asked they would have called it in and confirmed ownership

gates was out of line

and so is patrick and obama

and how can you know what a black person goes through:wink: laugh

No my dear...it was a verbal assault on the officer, that was there to help! The arrest was not labeled for attitude...it was for disorderly! You can't turn this around...it is what it is! I've seen this many many time, in court...really, it's just common sense. slaphead

As a former cop, proper procedure is this:

#1. Upon arriving on scene, detain and question any subject/suspect, search them and ask for ID.

#2. Look for additional suspects or victims. If two officers or more, one left with suspect to do #1 while the rest search.

#3. Obtain witness information, and determine if suspects story matches witnesses statement.

#4. Make any arrests, or release anyone from custody.

If this was a call for a breaking and entering/burglary, which can easily also be a home invasion, which is a class x felony, weapons are drawn, and tempers are high due to the pucker factor.

So much for the general public being innocent until proven guilty

Elwood - Isn't there a warrant needed to search?

not if there is probable cause

neighbor called in a break-in

officer responded

both handled it improperly

gates should have been more co-operative (and shown his ID this would not be an issue had he done so) and the profiler and police should have been less harsh

but hey...............

but hey...............
Yeah, yeah, yeah, what do you know

 I noticed adj didn't add the ending and I found my self saying it. You beat me to the punch Fran...

I'm with the cops on this one. The President screwed up by commenting on the situation the way he did. In the polls, his numbers will drop. be seeing you

I don't think less of him for this. It's not that big of deal to me.

The reporter asked the question and he answered it. He said that the man was his friend. He brought up important points about racial profiling.

Frankly they trapped him I think, if he has more time to thinking about it, I think he might not have used the word stupid, that will haunt him.

I dont' know why people fee that the president has to weigh in on issues like this. Leave him out of it and let him do his job..
