You DON'T fly a flag upside-down unless you're in distress! Whining because you have not been granted a liquor license is NOT a reasonable enough excuse to do it! It's just common frickin' sense! Familiarize yourself with it!

I believe I know exactly what you are talking about. I understand that you think it makes no sense to hang a flag upside down. I get it. I wouldn't do it myself, simply because I seen no point in it. But that is not the point some of are are talking about. We are saying that it is not illegal for him to do so on his own property. I don't care what he is whining about or why. I am concerned only that we don't start arresting people for things that are not illegal to do.

There is no sense in making one self sick over something stupid that somone else does, either. So I would not make a big deal of it, giving him more attention than he might deserve. That to is common sense, no?

I don't recall him getting arrested.

Fair enough. Common sense dictates that a person shouldn't put their hands on the burner of a hot stove, but if you feel so strongly that it's "legal" and you have every "right" to do it, then by God, be my guest.

you are right...but the OP didn't do that. people have the right to put their hands on a hot stove...and they get to deal with a self inflicted burn.

but who's fault is it if someone else burns someone because they didn't agree?

"Common sense" refers, ironically, to it being COMMON.

Weird how that works, innit?

it was common to have segregated ares in the 50s according to race

does tha make it common sense thus making it right

???????????????

btw i agree he did it for the wrong reason but there is sufficient reason to fly it upside down --- the destruction of the constitution by congress the supreme court and the presidency being said reason

Well there are people who think their beliefs are better than other's beliefs and would call other people common because of them. Again, man made the ritual, man can also manipulate it, but he can not force it on others, so far at least.

I asked that because you didn't answer the other question.

If someone does something I don't agree with and I go kick his azz...it would be MY fault not his.

I'll keep that in mind the next time I see some a-hole beating up on a woman.

hmmmm BIG difference....beating on someone is ILLEGAL and defending someone is NOT. what the OP did was NOT ILLEGAL. THAT is the point you keep missing.

the OP is breaking the law and if it hurts someone else...it's because they let it hurt themslaphead

Okay....so this a-hole beating up on a woman is illegal (as WELL as wrong!), so I'll also be illegal for beating the sh** out of him. I'll take those odds.

Soo..how is this man supposed to get arrested or fined if he isn't doing anything illegal?

yellowrose10's photo
Mon 07/13/09 01:23 PM
defending is not illegal...but when it goes over board...then yes it is. just as if I stepped in when a woman is beating a man because the man won't fight back. If I take it farther than defending then I'm in the wrong and have to own up to the consequences....which I can.

but you are missing the point completely. common sense should tell you that the OP and the analogy you gave are apples and oranges

the officer probably gave the flag back after getting an earful from the police chief

let's use this analogy (because it is something I find disgusting)....the Klan having a protest...as long as no laws are broken...they are within their rights even if I don't agree with their message

or people protesting wars....as long as laws aren't broken (such as vandalism, assaults, etc) they are within their rights

The butthead did not harm anyone hanging the flag up side down. Beating on a woman is phyical assault, of course one should step in then. No one is being harmed by some idiot hanging the flag wrong.

Perhaps we should all take a moment and flip OUR flags upside down.

NOT BECAUSE I AGREE WITH THIS IDIOT.

Simply because those police officers exceeded their office... and trampled upon MY constitution when they set hand to private property under color of law.

I am quite willing to do that for a day.

It won't hurt the flag...

Trampling on the constitution in my humble opinion is sufficient reason for me to take a day to signal distress.

I hate the Klan. We have groups that volunteer to keep up areas of the highway. They get a sign saying that they are the group that's doing.

The Klan got a sign. There's nothing that could be done about it. It's not against the law.

But..people kept tearing down the sign at night. It was costing the city too much money to keep replacing the signs. So...bye bye KKK.happy

HUH? NO, defending her is not wrong, go for it. But it is wrong to beat the heck out of an idiot that believes differently than you, or hangs the flag in such a way that offends someone who believes differently.

I don't like them either....I have nothing to do with racism. but they are still within their rights as much as I hate it. and tose that tear the signs down....they are the ones that are doing what's illegal. trust me...there are many times I want to do something (like my neighbors explode ) but if I do something like that...I am the one that pays for it and rightfully so
