Ya know, I don't really know how to respond to this. I've typed something 3 times then deleted it lol.

I love my country but have never once spoken the pledge of allegiance. I do not feel that it has to be said aloud, I keep it in my heart at all times. One persons sign of respect may not be the same as anothers.

Good point.

Plus, it wasn't against the law.

If I remember the McDonald's story correctly...the guy got in trouble for repeatedly calling 911 for a non-emergency

in Arlington...all calls go through 911 and they are sent out according to emergencies. Wasting the operators and cops time just because someone doesn't like what someone else is doing that is legal is irresponsible IMO

sorry but what gives others the authority to tell someone what they can or can't do legally?

Well, they're trying to do it to smokers and smoking. What's the frickin' difference?

the government is ...yes. they are trying to pass laws. until it is a law then no one should tell someone else what they can legally do. the key word is LEGAL

Everybody jumps on the badwagon of "free speech" or "MY right". Nobody has any regard anymore for plain old common sense and responsibility. Nobody wants to hold themselves personally accountable for their own f***-up's.

says who???? and who decides what is considered common sense and responsibility????

example...if I hear someone using racial slurs (which I can't stand btw) I have the choice to either walk away and not associate with them or tell them how I feel or do something illegal and go to jail.

there are choices in life and some won't own up to their choices

I don't see that at all, I believe this guy did not do anything illegal. I also believe people should take personal responsibility for their actions that harm another physically. But we don't get to harm or arrest someone because they see things differently. Seems to be what freedom is all about. I love common sense, but I am not expecting everyone to use it, so I can't be upset every time someone does something I think is disrespectful or stupid.

You DON'T fly a flag upside-down unless you're in distress! Whining because you have not been granted a liquor license is NOT a reasonable enough excuse to do it! It's just common frickin' sense! Familiarize yourself with it!

it's not illegal either. I am very familiar with common sense. and I know enough to know that not everyone has the same beliefs and values as me and it doesn't make either right or wrong. IT'S LEGAL!!!

who's beliefs should we follow????? who decides??? sorry but I have my own feelings and beliefs and as long as it's not illegal...I will do as I please. anyone wants to threaten me for my beliefs....won't be a good situation.

anyone that wants to do something illegal against something legal...be prepared to get bail...that is common sense

Just because something is "law" does not make it right.

it makes it LEGAL

who's fault would it be if someone kicked that guy's azz and the person that did it ended up in jail? or the guy had a gun and used it in self defense just because the other guy didn't approve?

My dad died in the service. He didn't join the service so people will follow what HE believed was right. He joined for freedoms under the constitution regardless of whether he found it distasteful or not. I can't stand of racism BUT they have a right as long as they don't break the laws.

Exactly what I mean about "free speech" and "MY rights". Who gives a damn about common sense, as long as you have a "legal right" to do whatever the hell you want.

those are YOUR right's...NOT MINE and not EVERYONE else's

again...who's "common sense" do we go by????

I am both offended and proud when I see something like this. I am offended that someone would do it. And yet I am proud that they can. One of the reasons that this country is great is because we have that freedom.

"Common sense" refers, ironically, to it being COMMON.

Weird how that works, innit?

I somehow doubt some things you think are common sense are what I would think would be common sense. common sense to me would be knowing that people have this kind of freedom even if I don't agree with it. common sense to me means not everyone has the same beliefs that I do and I'm not going to impose myself on others. it, also, means that I can ignore things, walk away, maturely confront it or do something illegal but it's MY choice how I handle it

Fair enough. Common sense dictates that a person shouldn't put their hands on the burner of a hot stove, but if you feel so strongly that it's "legal" and you have every "right" to do it, then by God, be my guest.

I believe I know exactly what you are talking about. I understand that you think it makes no sense to hang a flag upside down. I get it. I wouldn't do it myself, simply because I seen no point in it. But that is not the point some of are are talking about. We are saying that it is not illegal for him to do so on his own property. I don't care what he is whining about or why. I am concerned only that we don't start arresting people for things that are not illegal to do.

There is no sense in making one self sick over something stupid that somone else does, either. So I would not make a big deal of it, giving him more attention than he might deserve. That to is common sense, no?
