Burning the flag is an action, not speech.

tell the supreme court

it was an expression of there  feelings thus covered by the 1st ammendment

I'll do JUST that!!! This gives me something to do that I believe in completely. It ALMOST passed last time, missed by 1 vote needed to send it on. We'll just see what we can do about that.

Three things I will not tolerate from any man, woman, child, or small mammal:

1. Don't ever **** with my family.
2. Don't ever **** with my paycheck.
3. Don't EVER piss on my country's flag.

Any of the above actions happens, I promise you, we're gonna have words.

Well, these boys, go places, to war. They see things, have to do things, come back (like my Dad did at age NINETEEN) with no teeth, from trench mouth being fed on dirty utensils in prison camp, no hearing, some without limbs, some don't come back at all. I have a real problem with anyone that does anything to disrespect them.

I remember once at an Auburn football game during the pre game, and presentation of the colors and national anthem. My family was there, we stood up. Dad and brothers took off their caps but my little (at the time) 12 yr old nephew did not. My brother's hand came around from the back of my nephew's head, dragged that cap off the front and slammed it into his chest, and said "Show some respect boy". I doubt he'll ever forget that lesson.

Mixed emotions on this one.

It is not disrespectful to fly our flag upside down, it does signal distress, not disrespect.

Our nation is in distress under a hyper-inflated currency imposed on us by the FED, too much corruption in government, too many laws, loss of our rights, liberties and freedoms.

When a government fails its people, continues to lead them down a path of ruin, makes it impossible to even imagine "The American Dream" any more, and over regulates our ability to succeed, that is most definately distress.

Who said it is about a liquor lisence? The media? Local law? One man alone can not fix our nations problems that a whole corrupt and greedy government has imposed. Perhaps it is what it is, an appeal to ALL Americans to rise in defense of freedom, take back control of corrupt government that allows Wall Street, private banks and corporations to cause these hardships upon "we the people".

I hesitate to rush to judgement too quickly on such an issue as this, condemning before all the facts are in. I thought we were innocent till PROVEN guilty, and because the media or some sherriff said so, is not proof!

"He said his distress is likely bankruptcy because the village board refused to grant him a liquor license after he spent nearly $200,000 to buy and remodel a downtown building for an Italian supper club"

A Congressional Research Service American Law Division report to Congress in April described the U.S. Flag Code as "a codification of customs and rules established for the use of certain civilians and civilian groups. No penalty or punishment is specified ... for display of the flag ... in a manner other than as suggested. Cases ... have concluded that the Flag Code ... is merely declaratory and advisory."

§5. Display and use of flag by civilians; codification of rules and customs; definition

The following codification of existing rules and customs pertaining to the display and use of the flag of the United States of America be, and it is hereby, established for the use of such civilians or civilian groups or organizations as may not be required to conform with regulations promulgated by one or more executive departments of the Government of the United States. The flag of the United States for the purpose of this chapter shall be defined according to title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, Section 1 and Section 2 and Executive Order 10834 issued pursuant thereto.

Disrespect of flag or not...

WHAT GAVE THE POLICE PROPER AUTHORITY TO ENTER A PERSONS PRIVATE DOMAIN AND REMOVE PRIVATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY...?

Protect and serve... Not steal and trample.

I know of a similar situation (no flag issue) where a city council told a friend he would have no problem being approved for a dance club. It was to be a beer and wine service eventually (which they also stated their "probable" approval for pending the license), but was OK to open as a "juice" club pending approval. He did the same thing, spent a ton of money upgrading and improving the location on their assurances for approval. The day the inspectors came, they gave their certificate of compliance to take in to receive his lisence to open for business. What he found was that the council had met, denied his application due to citizen protest, but they had not gotten around to notifying him yet, stating it "sometimes took as much as 90 days after the decision".

So, he got a lawyer, now it is a gallery, specializing in erotic art, in the center of town. laugh That will teach them!

Someone, should have taken that flag and done something else with it IMHO.

Sorry, it is to be hung upside down in a sign of distress, as in, your ship has been overtaken and you are all being held..NOT boo hoo I didn't get my liquor license. noway noway

And it may be a "recommendation" now...but we'll see if it stays that way.

Well, you guys will hate this....

I literally snapped this picture on the way to my parent's house this morning....

This is how seccesionists fly thier flags out here. Yes, I agree with seccesion...No, I do not agree with disrespecting the flag of the United States of America...or ANY flag for that matter.

That neighborhood has many police, sherriffs dept and Statetroopers who live there. They are my neighbors....the long and short of it...it is legal. Doesn't make it right...but, it is legal....and anyone dumb enough to yank it down would probably get shot.

The red flag below it says "SEVER"

Sorry, the flag is a symbol. I'd die for my country. But not my flag. I support my troops. And I am grateful for those that have died so that I can be free. I think the guy is out of line. But it doesn't bother me in the least what he chooses to do with his flag.
