I'm not a pawnbroker but I AM one who frequents such places. If you know what you're looking for, you can get some totally rad deals on crap, too!
Example- I just picked up a rather interesting guitar made by RKS called a "Blackstar", which had originally went for up to four-grand when new. I picked one up today for around three-hundred bucks. |

Pawn shops just rip off people hard up for cash telling them their items are worth next to nothing and giving them a few dollars for something they mark up 20 times what they paid for it.The majority of that stuff they sell is stolen property and they buy it even if they know it is stolen.Got a gold rolex? They will give you 20 bucks and then sell if for $300.Back in my teen years I was stupid enough to sell some of my items to a pawn shop. One item I had was a very expensive piece of musical equipment that was new in the box that I bought at a auction.I walked by a pawn shop and in the window they were selling a used version of what I had just bought for $525.00.I took mine to that pawn shop and asked him how much he would give me for it.He said it was only worth about $40.00 and would give me $15.00 for it.I asked him to walk with me and showed him the same model in his window and told him he was nothing but liar and a thief.
I don't support pawn shops and hope they are all outlawed one day. |

It's funny this thread came about. I have this wedding set I was thinking of pawning, 'cause I don't want to mess with selling it outright. Next to nobody is in the market for wedding rings these days.....
What kind of percentage do you get for stuff like that? I'm just gonna throw a number out there....say it was originally 3,000 plus a few hundred for the bands (there is a plain band and an anniversary band). If I went to a pawn shop.....how much would they offer me? |

If I went to a pawn shop.....how much would they offer me? It depends on alot of things. Your local economy, how dwsperate you look, what's the resale value...etc. I'm not a pawn guy but I would guess 10 to 20 percent of retail. Just because you paid x amount of dollars does not mean you will get close to that...jmo |

Yep, I figured that. I'm not taking it out of the safe deposit box unless I can get at least a decent amount out of it.
