Depends on my mood at the time and what I have on hand. I sometimes use regular bread, raisin bread or texas toast. Sometimes I throw a little cinnamon in the egg wash. Always cook it in cast iron skillet.

Don't like it mushy - Don't like it crunchy - somewhere in between is nice and a nice brown color.

Sometimes plain, sometimes w/powdered sugar, sometimes maple syrup, sometimes half and half. YUM!

Too bad i am on my way to work. Sounds yummy right this minute :-)

Well, first of all, the bread has to have some character. I make a coconut pecan bread that has a lot of flavor and texture that soaks the egg up but add a lot of body, texture, and flavor to the toast. The four ways I usually eat it are:

right out of the pan cause I am hungry and I don't want to add anything.

powdered sugar. looks nice for company. I never use it for me.

maple syrup with or w/o sliced strawberries

pepper jam (my favorite) I am currently working on a jar of Hot Pepper Raspberry

Yeah. Not so much at kroger but maybe. I usually buy it at the State Parks gift shops here in Texas. Places that sell barbeque equipment around here sell it too. You can buy it mail order too. Try this link for example.

or even better because they have blackberry (my favorite)

I also get this stuff for Christmas each year because everyone knows how much I like it.

first I take a glass or cup and use it to cut a circle out of the middle.

then dip it in the egg and pan fry it

when its almost done I crack an egg into the hole in the middle and cook it over easy

I hope this is not a crazy question. Can you use heavy whipping cream instead of milk for french toast? One recipe up here by someone use milk in their recipe for french toast and I just want to know can I use heavy whipping cream.

IT has to be made with TExas toast...and I usually fry up some bananas with it, put whipped cream, chopped nuts, and a light drizzle of maple syrup on it..heaven! :) (and yes, for you single men out there, I CAN cook! :))

Yes, you can..you don't usually use that much dairy in it anyway..so go crazy :)

I put some vanilla in the egg mixture for some extra flavor.
My favorite topping is strawberries or raspberries. Any berries would work. Or sliced warmed nectarines are incredible too.
Now I am hungry.

The coconut bread sounds great, any chance you will share your recipe???? I love coconut, and it would go great with a berry topping.

Orange French Toast You take the meat of several oranges without the white pith and some cream cheese that you have softened . Mix the orange pulp with the cream cheese. In a bowl, mix eggs (I usually allow two per serving) some orange juice, about two tablespoons or so, some cinnamon and sugar to taste, and vanilla flavoring..to make it sweet..but spicy..and some nutmeg. Beat the egg mixture and dip your choice of Texas toast, or challah bread (love it), into the mixture AFTER you have split the toast to have a pocket in its side... into this pocket, you put the cream cheese and orange pulp mixture. You fry the toast just as you would other french toast, until golden. In the meanwhile, take orange juice in a small saucepan, heating til hot and bubbly... drizzle a cup of water mixed with cornstarch, slowly into the hot orange juice, and cook while stirring constantly, and the orange juice becomes thicker, and is now a sauce to put over the french toast. I like to also add some teaspoon or so of sugar to the orange juice, and some extra cinnamon and nutmeg. This is so good... decorate the french toast with additional orange slices and some whipped cream or powdered sugar. You can do the same with strawberries instead of oranges.. or peaches... Enjoy!!! Appyspotz...

OMG my son in law's gramma makes the bestest hot pepper jam! Put a dab of cream cheese and a dab of the jam on a cracker and you are in heaven!
And yes, I know a few small stores around here that do sell it, so you should be able to find it in a large chain that carries specialty items.
