that being said can not god take care of any issues that god wishes to be taken care of

why is it up to anyone else to push gods will upon anyone

thus why should the will of anyone out rank the will of another as long as it is not hurting anyone other than those voluntarily participating

Is that like the 3 preachers who divey up the collection plate? The first on draws a circle and throws all the money up in the air and what lands in the circle he gives to do Gods work and what lands outside he keeps. The second draws a circle throws the money into the air and what lands outside the circle he gives to do Gods work and keeps what lands in the circle. The third doesn't bother with the circle, throws the money into the air and figures what God want's he'll keep.

Christians are not losing the right to freedom of speech regarding religion. EVERYONE is.

Rather than allowing freedom of religion to all people, it is going the other direction.

People are being denied the right to express any religion because it may offend people of other religions.

Instead of acceptance of all faiths, we are moving in the direction of denying all faiths.

Since they are not respecting all religions in public arenas, they cannot have any, that is the only way to respect all.

It is either all or nothing in the arena of respecting religion. If you want public religion then all religions need to be represented. If you want public prayer then all religions need to be represented. If this cannot or won't be done then none can be done publically.

Reminder here: Churches and religious events are not in the public realm.

With a Communist like Obama in the white house news like this is hardly surprising.I have been following this issue for many years since they had a identical law passed in Canada a few years ago.In Canada, churches who speak against gays may be fined or thrown in jail for a hate crime. This law should get the attention of everyone from any back ground because although it mentions Christians it really affects anyone who speaks out against gays. This law is trampling over the right to free speech like a Grand central station door matt.In the Constitution it doesn't say we have the right to free speech except when it comes to speaking out against gays and that is forbidden. This is also violating separation of church and state.Since when does the state or government have the right to tell the churches what they can say?

I am hardly worried about this new law.I know that it will never be enforced because the public back lash of such trampling over free speech will cause a public relations nightmare for the mayor of that city and he will not get re-elected.This law is nothing more than the work of two gutless politicians who are trying to win over the minorities so they can look politically correct.

For all those bashing the Christians and using them over and over as a excuse to insult them for what the believe...You will never hear in any church a pastor telling it's members that they should hate, insult,or treat badly gay people. As a matter of fact the gays should thank the Christians as they get alot of support through the Christian community through acceptance and tolerance. With out the tolerance of the Christians they gays would be about accepted as the gays in Iran.

Bill spomsor John Conyers, D-Mich.

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee will vote tomorrow on a "hate crimes" bill that some say might allow federal officials to prosecute Christians who speak out against homosexual behavior.

Barney Frank, an openly homosexual congressman, announced Thursday that the House Judiciary Committee will be considering "hate crimes" legislation, H.R.1913.

The bill is named the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. It has 42 co-sponsors and was introduced into the House on April 2 by U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

In his April 2 introductory speech, Conyers cited the FBI's national data on reported hate crimes. For 2007, the most current data available, the FBI identified 7,624 bias-motivated criminal incidents directed against individuals because of their personal characteristics.

According to the report:

racially motivated bias accounted for 50.8 percent of all incidents
religious bias accounted for 1,400 incidents, or 18.4 percent
sexual orientation bias accounted for 1,265 incidents, or 16.6 percent
ethnicity/national origin bias accounted for 1,007 incidents, or 13.2 percent
"The statutes do not permit federal involvement in a range of cases where crimes are motivated by bias against the victim's perceived sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability," Conyers noted. "The federal government must have authority to be involved in investigating and prosecuting these crimes when state authorities cannot or will not do so."

Jeff King, president of International Christian Concern, warned that the bill could allow federal prosecutors to target Christians who teach that homosexual behavior is sinful and that Islam is a false religion.

But in his speech, Conyers said, "The bill only applies to bias-motivated violent crimes and does not impinge public speech or writing in any way."

Section 10 of the act states, "Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution."

Why would you read bias drivel like this and assume it's fact? Try reading the actual bill. There are multiple links to it in the thread, I've posted it myself, I think the link is on page 2.

ON CAPITOL HILL
'Jail grandma' hate speech debate begins
Warnings issued over 'most dangerous bill in America'

Posted: April 17, 2007

By Bob Unruh
© 2009 WorldNetDaily.com

Debate is to begin today in a congressional subcommittee on a federal "hate speech" proposal similar to a state law that already has been used to send grandmothers to jail for their "crime" of sharing the Gospel of Jesus on a Philadelphia public sidewalk.

"This is the most dangerous bill in America," said Janet Folger, a WND columnist and the president of Faith2Action.

The proposal, on its face, purports to create bans on "hate crimes," but Rev. Louis Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition said it more accurately is "an attempt by the ultra liberals and the homosexuals to force Americans to accept homosexuality and gender disturbance as equal to God's Created Order of heterosexuality."

His organization is running an e-mail campaign to alert members of Congress about their constituents' concerns.

"This bill says that hordes of homosexuals are being forced to flee their home states because they are routinely denied access to goods, services and employment," he said. "This explains the mystery of the crowded highways and airports in San Francisco and New York. … The reasons for the bill are completely unsupported."

He said states already have the resources to deal with crimes of bodily harm or assault, and the plan is simply not needed. Worse yet, he said, it creates a crime of "thought."

Sheldon's organization is releasing a poster showing Jesus as a wanted fugitive, for "crimes" under the planned "hate crimes" legislation.

Folger said her organization is launching a national television campaign to fight so-called "hate crimes" legislation, starting with H.R. 1592, the pending plan.

"The 'Hate Crimes' bill is better named 'Hate Grandma' or "hate Free Speech' bill as it poses a serious threat to the freedom of speech for every American," Folger said. "We must stop it before they send your grandma, your pastor, or you to jail for sharing your faith or speaking the truth about an agenda that seeks to silence us."

The television ad campaign by Faith2Action will feature Philadelphia grandmothers who already were thrown in jail in Pennsylvania under that state's "hate crimes" law – and faced the possibility of 47 years in jail – for testifying in public about their Christian faith.

That ads can be viewed at StopHateCrimesNow.com.

Sheldon noted that the plan adds "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" – "perceived or actual" for special federal protection under the Commerce Clause. The plan already is on the fast track and could be up for a subcommittee vote as early as tomorrow. It will be before the full Judiciary Committee next week.

The National Prayer Network, led by Rev. Ted Pike, is promoting a campaign aimed at defeating "hate crimes" proposals

The proposal, by U.S. Rep. John Conyers, the head of the House Judiciary Committee, is called "The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007," and the Rev. Ted Pike, of the National Prayer Network said it is horrible.

Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America joined Pike in expressing alarm over the plan.

Marcavage told WND that plan would invert American justice, and instead of requiring evidence it would leave it to someone who claims to be offended to determine whether a "crime" has been committed.

"Truth is not allowed as evidence in hate crimes trials. … A homosexual can claim emotional damage from hearing Scripture that describes his lifestyle as an abomination. He can press charges against the pastor or broadcaster who merely reads the Bible in public. The 'hater' can be fined thousands of dollars and even imprisoned!" Marcavage said.

As WND has reported, such laws already have been used around the world, where in Canada pastors are fearful of reading biblical injunctions against homosexuality, and in Australia where two pastors were convicted of "vilifying" Islam.

Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truth, noted that in Canada and France both, legislators have been fined for publicly criticizing homosexuality. Three years ago, a Swedish hate crimes law was used to put Pastor Ake Green, who preached that homosexuality is a sin, in jail for a month.

"And recently, a British couple told how they were denied the chance to adopt because it was determined that their Christian faith might 'prejudice' them against a homosexual child put in their care," LaBarbera added.

Already in the United States, Catholic Charities of Boston halted all adoption operations in the state after being told under Massachusetts' pro-'gay' nondiscrimination law, only agencies that placed children

Thomas,

Have you read the bill? It's not about how people speak.

It's about hate crimes - death, kidnapping, sexual abuse, attempt to kill - people of race, color, religion, national origin and disabilities.

It's not taking any law abiding Christian's rights away.

Winx's photo
Tue 04/28/09 09:27 PM

sorry but my rights haven't been taken away....yet. and legalizing same sex marriages doesn't take away my rights either.

This really should be alarming for all people!

Again, to quote the article:

This creates both a sociopolitical and legal environment wherein traditional sexual morality officially becomes the new racism. Those who publically express medical, moral or religious opposition to the homosexual lifestyle are tagged by the government as "homophobic bigots" to be treated no differently by law enforcement, the courts or larger society than the KKK or neo-Nazis.

In short, this bill places newfangled "gay rights" in direct conflict with our enumerated constitutional rights. It becomes the first step in the official criminalization of Christianity. It's a zero sum game and someone has to lose.Ultimately, what we lose are our First Amendment guaranteed rights to freedom of speech, religious expression and association.

YR, yet...is the key word!

isn't that judging others? the first amendment is for ALL rights to beliefs....not just one side

YR,

Do you believe it would be okay for a Pastor to go to jail because he got up and read out of the Bible where it says that homosexuality is a sin (just like adultry, gluttony, gossip, anger, slander etc.)? It has already happened in other nations and this is a push towards an agenda that would take away our rights to read the Bible!

Might be if it did that, but pure and simply put, it doesn't.

In the medical community there is already legislature being pushed trying to take away a Physicians license if they refuse to give a morning after pill, prescribe birth control, or do an abortion.

There are already people trying to sue Pastors for 'hate crimes' when preaching straight out of the Bible in the US.

Are we free or not? That is taking away our freedom of speech.

I in no way condone hate of any kind.

Laura,

The bill isn't trying to take anybody's free speech away.flowerforyou

Winx I have read the bill and I understand 100% what it is about.Yes it is taking Christians rights away because people can claim that you caused them emotional damage simply by speaking out against their way of life.Didn't you read the article I just posted?I am still waiting for the day when these scum sucking liberals has the balls to pass a bill taking away the rights of the Muslims or some other religion.

No, that is something I can agree with. Restrict them all equally.
