Hate Crimes Bills are not necessary, and just do more to create a division between people. Assault is assault. Murder is murder.

The Federal Government is overstepping its bounds once again. You cannot raise a certain group or groups above another. Special legal protections for a group at the expense of another is expressly forbidden.

They are completely disregarding the 14th amendment.

we I agree with this...does the bill not protect all from any hate crimes???? example...someone bombing a church would be protect would it not?

but i do see your point....assault is assault regardless of the reasons...it's a crime

It's not that murder is different in one group for another. But we do need hate crime bills. It adds special circumstances and time in prison for crimes commited by hatred. It helps prevent groups like the KKK and going out and attacking Black people. It prevents groups from going out and attacking gay and lesbians. We need hate crime bills because we have hate crimes.

Murder isn't murder? You have got to be kidding. I don't give a rats ass about the motive. If someone is murdered walking down the street, you are saying their life isn't worth the same as someone else who gets special recognition in the legislation? That is nonsense, and a hell of a way to downgrade someone because they don't meet some special requirement.

murder is murder and ALL should be punished. Absolutly. But what I'm saying is there are different circumstances to different crimes.

I have my own feelings about religions.

It would be simple enough to sue for slander instead of passing more Laws. If they call you it and it ain't true, sue 'em. Simple.

Think a minute. All the Laws that are being passed are in many ways oppressive. Taking away rights.

Our Gov. wants us to have no voice. Or the voice we will have is what they tell us is right or wrong.

Now, if someone assaulted with hands on, I could see the need. But, that one is already on the books.

Look at who is pushing this bill.

I'm saying there's a difference between someone that's been abused for years and snaps one day and kills their abuser and someone that kills someone just because he came out of a gay bar. Should they both be punished? YES. Should they both go to prison? YES. Should you also take into consideration the circumstances surrounding what caused you to kill another person? YES. You should.

Laura,

You keep quoting the article and referring people back to the article, but it's not a factual article. It's an article based on the opinion of the author, put out by a Christian newsletter. It's not an unbiased article. The facts of what he states have not been verified at all.
We can't go getting all riled up and upset over someone's opinion just because it's printed in a paper.
Of course he words it as facts, but it's not.
There IS absolute evidence that gays and lesbians are not given equal protection. Up until recently, you could still legally discriminate and fire or refuse to hire someone soley based on their sexual orientation.
Even in the military- "don't ask, don't tell policy" I mean come on... I don't care who he's in love with when he (or she) is out there putting their life on the line for my freedom and safety.
I suggest doing more research on the bill itself. Read up on it more, not just what this article states.

I do believe it to be factual.

Thank God for the protection that is now in place to protect the homosexual community or anyone else that is being discriminated against.

I thank God and pray regularly for all of our military that has fought or is fighting for our FREEDOM!

Actually, according to the 14th amendment we all have equal protection. That means that you can't impose a law that targets one group or raises another above a group. If you want special recognition for a certain group change the constitution. Until then 1 murder should be charged as every other murder.

I agree completely with this. The whole "hate crime" thing only serves to create more division.

Well guess what, to the degree that anything is included in that bill, Your church is as well. Same money is offered to help find people who attack churches. No difference.

I do believe it to be factual.

But it's not factual. It's his opinion on how the bill will affect people. It's just not factual. You can agree with him. You can take his side on his opinion. But it's still your opinion. If you want to believe that, that's entirely up to you. But you can't go around claiming it ( or anything else ) to be factual when they are opinion based.

I don't want the governments money to help fight hate crimes against the Church!

I want to protect our freedom of speech, including the Christians and everyone else's freedom of speech! Our equal rights! Protection of the very foundation upon which our great nation was founded! That's all.
