‘‘Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined’’
— Patrick Henry

‘‘Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.’’

‘‘[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.’’

— James Madison, Federalist, No. 46.

‘‘I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.’’
‘‘To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.’’

— George Mason

‘‘The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.’’

— James Earl Jones, Actor

‘‘Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.’’

— Mahatma Ghandi, "Gandhi, An Autobiography", page 446

‘‘The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non ["something essential" lit. "without which not"] for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police.’’

-- Adolph Hitler, Edict of March 18, 1938

‘‘We, the People are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts — not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the Constitution.’’

— Abraham Lincoln

‘‘Four out of five politicians surveyed prefer unarmed, ignorant peasants.’’

I am not scared. What scares me is all those people who have guns...............................with tempers and actions before thoughts.

The guns in question are the high powered and multishot massacre weapons. The ones with absolutely no use in hunting. Unless you are hunting people at long ranges.

Kat

You do not have the right to bear arms to hunt with. Nor to protect yourself from crime. Those are asides. You have the right to bear arms "in order to protect all your other rights". That is, from a government gone bad. n fact our founding fathers thought to add "equal to that of the current milita" in the types of guns we should have.

Many people today believe that we are far more intelligent and sophisticated than say...during the 30s when Hitler first "registered" then collected everyones guns. We are not and our world is far less secure than it was even then.

I know that if the police even come to someones house because they were arguing with thier wife, neighbor, they will ask you if there are any guns in the house. Then they WILL take them. Not MINE, others who are stupid wenough to let them in. Then they want to see your registration, even though you probably inherited a good many of them... and the Federal Government provides NO means for a civilian to register guns except at the time of purchase by a dealer.

I'll keep mine, thanks.

Im not sure what kind of person only wants police and criminals to have guns , but my first guess would be "naive".

Just for thought here. One can kill you and your family or anyone without a gun, using only their smarts and what good does the gun do you? This was just hypothetical, no threat involved so please don't see it that way.

For example the 9/11 killers did not use guns.

My point here is that guns are over rated for protection and all other uses. People cling to these things as if a live saver when in truth they are not. That to me is a mental trap.

do you know i see all good merit in what you say???

but it cannot be ALL the good can it???

it cannot be missed, that EACH is an adult, and the right to bear arms, is for the "balance of power of government to people", if there is any greater sight of "equal rights", and indeed, the constitution is based on EQUAL RIGHTS???

A GOVERNMENT CANNOT WIELD GUNS, IF THE PEOPLE CANNOT CAN IT???

in countries where guns are outlawed, the goverment does not use them neither, or there is NO BALANCE OF POWER???

it is balance of power, that protect EQUAL FREEDOM, WHICH IS EQUAL MOST PEACE POSSIBLE, WHICH IS THE GREATET PEACE EXCEPT UTOPIAN BE IN EXISTENCE, AND UNTIL SUCH THINGS WOULD BECOME AS REALITY, BALANCE OF POWER IS ESSENTIAL TO ALL FREEDOM AND PEACE???

and is one forgetting, god forbide, another unpeacful nation intrude these border's, and THE PEOPLE AND MILITARY NEED TO ACT AS ONE, TO KEEP WOMEN AND CHILDREN FROM BEING RAPED AND KILLED IN THE STREETS, WHICH WAS ANOTHER REASON FOR THE "RIGHT" TO BEAR ARMS!!!???

peace

Now David, you hit a chord with me here. It is true that if the masses are unarmed so should the government be.

Hmmmmmm, I definitely agree with that.

I will have to ponder on that one a bit.

Great post.

Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound. - L. Neil Smith

Gun control has not worked in D.C. The only people who have guns are criminals. We have the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the highest murder rates. anything that truely look into itself, and hide not from any foul or unfair or wish for power itself, and into anything and everything itself has ever done, or what self would do, if no one was watching or would ever know, can see what naturally all large power "fight against" within itself, and what make the loving realistic people of a nation never allow large power to ever go unscrutinized, and not questioned, and held to the highest standards of care of all other's as equals, with rights as equal adults, and none ever as children, which be the only thing that keep peace and balance in any nation???

I would rather have a gun when I don't need it,then to not have it when I need it.Anyone who has ever been a victim of crime will want a gun.I sleep well at night knowing anyone who comes into my house to rob, murder,or abuse me will be met with a hail of gunfire.

I am a bit paranoid because I may be the only person within a 100 mile radius of me who does not own a gun.

Today at my son's soccer practice two parents were discussing the fact that one was unable to find any ammo for her gun in any of the local stores, her type is sold out and the other was lamenting the fact that his type, the price had doubled.

Apparently, everybody and their mother literally are stocking up on guns and ammo. The rumor I heard from these parents is that the Obama administration is going to consider anyone who buys a lot of guns and ammo a terrorist. OMG!!!

You used the perfect word for the insanity!

PARANOIA!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Individual Americans have a right to own guns, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday for the first time in the country's history, striking down a strict gun control law in the U.S. capital.

The landmark 5-4 ruling marked the first time in nearly 70 years the high court has addressed the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It rejected the argument the right to keep and bear arms was tied to service in a state militia.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a sweeping ban on handguns in the nation's capital violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The justices struck down the ban in a 5-4 decision, with Justice Antonin Scalia writing the opinion for the majority.

Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said he was disappointed in the ruling but will give the district's police department 21 days to implement a process for registering handguns. It still will be illegal to carry handguns outside the home, and all pistols must be registered with police.

Officials said a hot line would be set up to handle questions about the new regulations.

"It is important to respect the court's authority and to act quickly," Fenty said.

I play around on these forums sometimes sharing my intimate views, sometimes not, but here is the serious on this subject for me.

A real true vibrant strong sexydrool ( had to throw that in there..lol) man might have a couple of guns ( not automatic weapons just regular guns rifles included) back in the locked up gun rack somewhere in the house where noone knows, for the off chance one day that he may need to defend himself against a burglar or the government. But being that hot sexy thing that he is,bigsmile he has no need to carry to feel powerful in any way. He is confident in his mental ability and his reflexes for most daily events. He would be too strong and smart to need the weapon for anything less than a catastrophe of some kind...To me to feel the need to carry a weapon to feel powerful is weak, sad, miserable and unattractive, also kinda psycho.noway The founding fathers lived in another world from the one we live in today.

So now that I got myself all excited with this imaginary hot man, are there any of these type of men on this site? laugh

the best reason for having a gun is "because I want one"

this is America after all

indeed, what was America, was founded once upon wisdom???

and equal for all???

so wisdom must continue to grow and prosper to greater insight as well, to keep what America was, or had, into the future???

as America now is not what America was or there is no sight of the now versus then???

and in these days of civil change and birth pains, no answer of simple "want to" will ever be sufficient to uphold the rights of all as equal???

in such current days with overwhelming pressure's exerted from two sides, with massive political clout to control the people, which is power over the people's future indeed???

both sides having HUGE AGENDAS, THAT PULL THE OTHER IN THE OPPOSITE direction, must have wise peoples with good insight, even greater then when America was founnded, to maintain what was???

to vote and decide wherein lies the greatest answers and solutions???

which could only ever come to any voter or lover of America, INCORPORATING ALL THAT THE TWO SIDES BOTH KNOW AS CORRECT, UNTO TRUE SOLUTIONS AND PEACE AND FREEDOM AND THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS FOR ALL???

peace man

I agree, it has been excessive.

I think the racists in this country are feeling a bit put out to have minority in control and have spawned a whole lotta propaganda type stuff to stir up fear and loathing. My personal opinion here of course.

I read the hate sites on occasion and they are all worked up. So that is where I get this idea from.

I think the fervor has activated some of the anti government folks too.

The amount of fear is amazing. I think it is stronger than after 9/11 and you know how the fearful reacted after that, they bought into warring with a non responsible nation, they signed over their civil rights, they allowed with no problem the torture of humans, etc....

Fear is actually the enemy most of the time. What are they so scared of?

Is there not wisdom in preparing? What if the day came when america, mexico, and canada joined into one working unit with one currency and one court system?

I think it would be too difficult to get ahold of a weapon at that time...

Nothing wrong in being prepared. As long as people keep their weapons holstered until it is needed... right brother?
