BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Friday stubbornly refused to back off his decision to leave his family's Dale Earnhardt Inc. team, but he just as staunchly denounced the recent treatment of DEI's head, his stepmother Teresa Earnhardt.

Junior, who next season will drive a Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, admitted his and his stepmother's mutual stubbornness and lack of insight into each other probably led to the split, but that he was over any bad feelings about it and suggested everyone else feel the same way.

"I think it's about time we give Teresa a break," Earnhardt said. "She makes the decision on that number because she owns it. And as much as I am disappointed and frustrated over the fact that I don't get to keep driving the No. 8, the stuff that I read on the Internet and the stuff that I'm hearing is going on -- the remarks about her, directed toward her -- I don't think anybody deserves that.

If people just take a step back and look, she hasn't done anything intentionally detrimental to me. I've got a good future, a good opportunity in my hands. She's doing what she feels like she needs to do.

"I just think everybody needs to lay off a little bit because she was married to my daddy and I know he wouldn't be too happy about what's going on, what's being said about her. So that just kind of bothers me a little bit."

Junior, who is not married, spoke like an outraged parent as he defended his stepmother and his half-sister, Taylor.

"I hate to see somebody be crucified on the Internet like Teresa has," Earnhardt said. "She's got a daughter that goes to school, that's got friends and she has to put up with that stuff. It's just hardcore, man.

"People have been really, really rude and really way over the line on some of the things that have been said. I know Teresa doesn't know half of it because she won't read it and she won't put up with it. If anybody in their right mind knew that was going on they wouldn't be around it and deal with it.

"But it still gets back to Taylor. Nobody deserves that. It ain't fair."

"When it comes to my driving career right now, I didn't like how it was understood between me and Teresa," Earnhardt said. "We obviously didn't have a good line of communication. We obviously don't understand each other. We obviously don't know much about each other. She underestimates my determination and my willingness to give it all I've got. Obviously, I probably know that little about her and her determination. But it doesn't matter. I'm going to do something different.

"I want the best for DEI, simply put. If there's opportunities for me to help them or if there are programs they want to involve me in that are interesting and fun for me, I've got interest there and I'm wide open to doing those things because they'll make sense.

"But the relationship that I have with Teresa as an owner, I dislike and I didn't enjoy and I didn't want anymore. That was the only single thing that has made all this what it is today. That will be the one thing that I avoid in the future when working with DEI."

Fanta you are just a flaming nut. Dale Jr. is doing what any family member would do in ANY family. The squabble he has with Teresa is HIS business. It's an INTERNAL PERSONNAL FAMILY problem that has nothing to do with public opinion. I would do the same if the public was attacking my family member. They are still FAMILY and like he said...she was married to his father. That in itself is enough to defend her honor.

Now...just like I said before...he had reason to leave and it is still being proven by the faulty engines that have cost him a spot in the chase. Get a life and go fight fight with someone that wants to fight with you in current events.

Lakeman I didnt put that here for your benefit!
Although many of your posts have been in the derogatory tone that Jr refers to in this article!

Does it hit that close to home, or is it your self-imposed importance as a NASCAR expert that made you reply!

You should take your comments to another forum before you start telling others where or where not they can post!

Then learn to STFU!!!!!laugh laugh laugh laugh

Fanta..I agree that Jr was a "spoiled brat" living off his fathers name and rep. when he first came on the scene..I could not stand it...but I think over the last few seasons he has become a bit more humble in knowing that it actually takes talent and not a name to make it in NASCAR. He isn't one of my favorite drivers...but I think he has come a long way from what he was like 5-6 years agolaugh laugh drinker drinker drinker

Fanta, Lakeman, can't we all get along?

JR isn't my favorite either--I don't have one, but if pressed, I've always been impressed with Mark Martin.

Fanta, I don't think it's as much JR living off his dad's rep as it is the media constantly to do it. My local paper doesn't tell you who won the race on page one, but they tell you how JR did. Same with radio and TV. Dale JR seems like a nice enough fellow. I do feel bad for him with all the expectations placed on him. NASCAR itself put pressure on him by promoting the hell out of him when he wasn't ready, and when someone's shoved down fan's throats, resentment builds. from what I've seen, JR's handled it pretty well. He doesn't expect preferential treatment.

Lakeman, you say the rift between Dale JR and Teresa is a personal matter. Unfortunatly, in sports, politics, and entertainment, nothing is able to be kept "behind closed doors". That's sad, but that's the way it is amongst the famous.
Papers, Radio, TV, and the 'net are filled with stories like this every day, because that what the public's looking for, that's what they want to know about. Public lives are PUBLIC. Every little detail shouldn't be, but as I said earlier, that's just the way it is.

Whew, now that I'm done, let's all make up and go knock back somedrinker s, and enjoy the race tonight.

Whats up Red winedrinker drinker
and Knox, your right and I was reading somewhere else that JR is having second thoughts about his decision to leave DEI. Too late now however, but true to his spoiled little boy attitude!
He says Teresa never appreciated his drive, but she was married to his daddy! Have you ever read the history there?
It is good that he is standing up for his little sister though and taking his share of the blame for what she has to hear at school and on the internet!
Brings back a little respect for his traitorist ass!drinker drinker

Hind sight is always 20/20. That article that you were refering to is the media talking...not Junior. That reporter on NASCAR .com said that if Maxey was hired earlier...He MAY have been able to act as mediator and possibly healed some of the problems. I disagree. Jr. has never gotten along well with Teresa and he is much better off heading out to get away from her. Rick Hendrick is just like his father was and he will flourish in his prescence.
Kyle is in the chase because he has Hendricks equipment..DUH.
As far as your little comment...any time you can Sck m D!CK

Here are the REAL feelings that Dale Jr. has and the reason why he left DEI. These are actual quotes from Jr....not some tarded reporter.

But as perturbed as he is about that, Junior says he's comfortable with his decision to leave, and he's excited about the upcoming announcements about his new number and sponsor. But while he said he looked forward to working with DEI on future projects, he was just as adamant about not wanting to get to know his stepmother any better.

"When it comes to my driving career right now, I didn't like how it was understood between me and Teresa," Earnhardt said. "We obviously didn't have a good line of communication. This post is for Sheryl...Nascarcutey has left us. She was in a car accident and went into a coma...but now she is gone. Her favorite sport was Nascar. She loved Jeff Gordon more than any fan I have ever seen. She was a very loving girl and she is now in a place where there is no more worry of her cancer or further pain. God Bless Her and take care of our Cutie.flowerforyou flowerforyou
