Wow, it looks like Cyclops is pulling up some old threads.

I must admit its fun to be reminded of some old friends I've not talked to in years.

Wow - a blast from the past. I can recall reading this thread years ago.

Worth bringing this back -if just for Ressert's posts.

true story...years ago I was job hunting near Brookings South Dakota and
picked up a guy hitchhiking...drove some miles and he told me he was a
pastor / minister at a small church somewhere in the prairie..and then
he asked what my "denomination" was...
Told him I thought I was more spiritual than anything..that I believed
there is a force of good/ light energy that flows thru the universe we
can tap into it and become a force of good ourselves..also said that we
have been here much longer than the bible states and that we were
probably altered thru our DNA eons ago by travelers from somewhere
else...
He asked to be let out and looked back into the car at me..
"you will rot in hell for your beliefs" he said....

cant remember if he thanked me for the ride... grumble grumble
indifferent

He is mistaken in his own beliefs.

Some are called today to understanding....these are those of the first resurrection.

Those never knowing the truth and misguided......will learn the truth as the books are opened (Bible/scriptures) in the second resurrection. Then those will have an informed chance to salvation. If they knowing refuse it. Then they shall have their part in the lake of fire with those of the third (implied) resurrection to destruction. (no burning in hell forever and ever.)

That man was as lost in his understanding as a goose would be in a pickle barrel. Forgive him!

Peace!

The pastor should have been more interested in enlightening than damning people,,,he who hasnt sinned and all that,,,,it really wasnt his place at that point in time and it was certainly not the right sentiment at any time.

I would say Christianity lost its reasoning ability, logic and all just because of the way Romans,Europeans and the ancient pagan converts treated it.Even to an atheist's lifestyle this book the bible the center of (not blind faith)answers is applicable for a successful living. In bible it says ,for the god 1000 years is just as a second a second is just as 1000 years. So we cannot find whether through evolution god has made or how many years actually he mean through saying 7 days for the creation . For the knowledge of people at the time bible was written ,It was enough for them to understand because the man cannot understand the creators science and ways he accept for creation at that time .Due to the curse on man the science or mans lively hood was not developed then and he was released only in the past few centuries to develop logic for his existence.(curse is the sovereignty of satan ,curse or negativity never comes from god ,But god's justice would implement punishments by withdrawing his presence from man and thereby satan would ill treat Remember good and evil wouldn't be together ) If the Bible is written 'NOW ' or we ask to the god he would explain it if you and I can understand his Intelligence.bIBLE SAYS THERE WAS EARTH EVEN BEFORE CREATION BUT IT WAS EMPTY ,THE REASON FOR THIS EMPTINESS IS ALSO DESCRIBED AS THE CURSE BROUGHT TO EARTH WHEN SATAN IS FALLEN TO EARTH WHEN HE IS CAST OUT FROM HEAVEN Being an Indian I could not understand which belief Is right, because I used to see taboos all around and miracles which had no logic for the science to give .I could barely recognize some frauds but most these powers which people in my country used for personal profits,SO I CAME TO KNOW ALL THESE POWERS WHICH DOESN'T ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO BE RIGHTEOUS AND STILL INFLUENCE THE SOCIETY BY PLEASING THEM THROUGH FULFILLING THE NEEDS FOR LIVELIHOOD......... THEY ARE FROM THE DARKNESS MAY BE WE HAVE TO SEARCH SO LONG FOR RECOGNIZING THE TRUTH BUT WITH TRUTH ONLY EVERYBODY WILL BE SATISFIED .TO UNDERSTAND A BIG GOD YOU NEED BIGGER THIRST TO KNOW THE REASON FOR EXISTENCE. TO FIND WHEATHER JESUS IS A POWER INSIDE GOD CAME TO EARTH TO SUBMIT HIS STATE OF MIGHTINESS TO GIVE AS A SACRIFICE FOR THE IGNORRENT HUMAN'S WHO DOESN'T HAD THE ABILITY(BUT THROUGH JESUS AND HOLY SPIRIT WE HAVE IT NOW)TO UNDERSTAND HIS ROOTS ARE FROM GOD AND NOT FREE TO UNDERGO EVIL ,DUE TO BEING A CREATION UNDER GOD'S JUDGEMENT.JESUS KNEW OUR WEAKNESS'S SUCH AS THE PASTOR WHO TOLD DEAR BROTHER THOSE WORDS HAD(BEING A PASTOR HE IS IGNORANT TO THE WORD OF GOD BECAUSE ,BIBLE STASTE'S ALL PEOPLE WHO COULDN'T UNDERSTAND GOD WILL BE JUDGED ON THE BASIS OF YOUR DEED'S THAT'S THE RESULT OF YOUR RIGHTEOUS THOUGHTS. AND BEEING A PASTOR HE ACTED UPON THE EMOTION .THIS IS WHAT I SAID IN THE TOP).SO JESUS DIDN'T CAME TO EARTH TO CREATE THE GOSPELS BUT FOR WHOM THIRST TO KNOW TRUTH'S BEHIND HIS REASON OF EXISTENCE.NOW THERE IS HOLY SPIRIT WHO PROVES TO THE WORLD ABOUT THE UNSEEN WORLD THROUGH ALL THESE CENTURIES TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEED AN ANSWER, A MIRACLE ,A REASON, AN EXPEREINCE ,A SOLUTION FOR THE DISABILITY OF SIN , AND TO HIM WE CAN ASK WHETHER JESUS EXIST. I SUGGEST TO NEVER BELIEVE IN JESUS UNLESS DIDN'T HAVE AN EXPERIENCE, BECAUSE I EXPERIENCE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CLEAN.THE POWER OF IT.WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT IT.AND KNOW WHAT'S THE SPECIALTY I HAVE NOW WHICH I MISSED EARLIER. BECAUSE I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE IT BEFORE I CANNOT EXPLAIN WHAT THIS IS I FEEL.IT IS LOVE THAT COMES THROUGH THE MOUTH OF A SPIRIT FILLED PERSON, I EXPERIANCE THAT CHANGE IN ME AFTER BECOMING A SPIRITUAL . EVEN THE ANCIENT TEXT'S WRITTEN IN INDIA GIVE HINT OF THE COMING SAVIOR AND SOME CLEAR PROPHESIES ARE WRITTEN ABOUT JESUS IN THE PHILOSOPHICAL BOOK'S OF MY NATION.

If you try to lead a life where you consider others show empathy and listen to others points of view, take pride in the love that family and friends show to you and in return you give a little of yourself back you will not go to hell, we make our own heaven and our own hell by how we are as a person not by the rantings of some religious NUT. When I was a little boy, my male babysitter used to rape me. This went
on for months before my father found out what was going on. I still
struggle with my emotions some 30 years later. I feel that the
emotional damage done to me has probably hurt every relationship I've
been in with a woman. Oh, but back onto the subject at hand...I am
really sorry that a hitchhiker told you that you were going to hell.
I'm just glad nothing that terrible has ever happened to me. Perhaps
you should hold onto that memory for the rest of your life and hug that
memory everytime you need to reassure yourself that you can judge a
whole religion by one incident with a hitchhiker.

My heart goes out to you bless you for having the strenght to share that with us you have more strenght
than you realise. Anna xx

It truly amazes me how wise you are, msharmony. I keep agreeing with everything you say. Yes, perhaps the pastor needs to do some more reading of the gospel and less preaching about what he thinks it is saying. He being a mortal has no call to judge, only to lead others to redemption, and to Christ's love. To do otherwise makes him a false prophet and a heretic.

That's a sad story on so many levels.
And I'm sorry that "Christians" were represented to you in that fashion. I hate apologizing for "groups" that I belong to... christians; caucasians; europeans; males, etc. But I would like to apologize to you for that.
