On the same night he was offering the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rush Limbaugh drew criticism from an unlikely source: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

In a little-noticed interview Saturday night, Steele dismissed Limbaugh as an “entertainer” whose show is “incendiary” and “ugly.”

"Steele to Rush: I'm sorry"

"Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says he has reached out to Rush Limbaugh to tell him he meant no offense when he referred to the popular conservative radio host as an “entertainer” whose show can be “incendiary.”

“My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”

“I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren’t what I was thinking,” Steele said. "It was one of those things where I thinking I was saying one thing, and it came out differently. What I was trying to say was a lot of people … want to make Rush the scapegoat, the bogeyman, and he’s not."

“I’m not going to engage these guys and sit back and provide them the popcorn for a fight between me and Rush Limbaugh,” Steele added. “No such thing is going to happen. … I wasn’t trying to slam him or anything.”

No emoticons indicating laughter required or need. The smug sense of self-satisfaction in neutering another liberal with facts is reward enough.

I couldn't believe he apologized to that cad. Rush doesn't deserve any apologies, he is such a bigot with extremists ideals that would take this country down the toilet worse than Bush did.

I remember a time being in a line for gifts for my kids for Christmas because times were really really hard and the kids shouldn't suffer. There was a man there walking down the line with his daughter making her give money to different people in the line to show her the generosity of being better off than others. I refused the money she offered me because my pride would not allow me to take it, it was bad enough I was in the line for the toys for my children. But I will never forget him teaching his daughter this attribute to carry through her life.

Greed is a terrible result of this capitalistic system of ours and those who are really thankful for what they have are generous to those who are not so lucky.

I have watched it happen within my own family. I have family members who were not well to do and became well to do and they lost their generosity. They became those mean minded, greedy, self depreciating people who actually believe that all poor people are that way because they are lazy, unmotivated, dependent, etc.... they forgot where they came from and they also forgot that they did not do it alone. People helped them get to where they are today.frustrated slaphead

Care to cite a verbatum quotes of Mr. Limbaugh to support the opinion of a "bigot with extremist ideals"? Please?

I honestly believe you have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about here (merely parroting the beliefs of others have said to try to "fit in" with the liberal collective) and know even less about Mr. Limbaugh himself. Here's an opportunity for you to educate yourself about the man. http://www.answers.com/topic/rush-limbaugh

This might be a lot to ask of a liberal such as yourself. When/if you read the material contained in the above link, in all "fairness" try reading it with an open, non-judgemental mindset (if you are capable). You might even consider e-mailing afterwards and thanking him for his charity work in Leukemia and lymphoma plus scholarships for children of killed Marines and law enforcement (also being ranked #10 of the most charitable celebrities- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2083034/posts).

As per Rush taking this country down further than Bush... The Wall Street Journal would disagree.

"As the Dow keeps dropping, the President is running out of people to blame."

"Americans have welcomed the Obama era in the same spirit of hope the President campaigned on. But after five weeks in office, it's become clear that Mr. Obama's policies are slowing, if not stopping, what would otherwise be the normal process of economic recovery. From punishing business to squandering scarce national public resources, Team Obama is creating more uncertainty and less confidence -- and thus a longer period of recession or subpar growth."

"Listening to Mr. Obama and his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, on the weekend, we couldn't help but wonder if they appreciate any of this. They seem preoccupied with going to the barricades against Republicans who wield little power, or picking a fight with Rush Limbaugh, as if this is the kind of economic leadership Americans want."

Not a liberal and do not want to "fit in". I actually believe anyone who listens to Rush is trying to "fit in" and they are being lead by the nose down the toilet which is where his rhetoric takes the listener.

He is garbage and if he is the best the republican party can come up with they are in TROUBLE!!!!

All you have to do is listen, it is obvious where he stands.

I wrote to the president and told him it would be a disgrace to his standing to even give Rush the time of day, let alone allow him any validity.

I've only had the opportunity to occasionally listen to Rush several times over the years and have yet hear anything I consider bigoted or extremist; Therefore, I'll ask you for the 2nd time for verbatum quotes that you personally heard and/or have read (in context and can verify) to enlighten me and convice me otherwise, please? Being the open-minded individual you are, all I seek and desire is to equal the vast knowledge you claim you possess in this matter. It's only fair. Fairness and equality is your mantra, is it not? Please don't make me beg a 3rd time with my humble request... others here might start considering you nothing more than the hypocritical cyber-equivalent of "Old Faithful"... frequently/routinely spouting off useless steam. Feel free to call for help if you need it (as I suspect you do/will... in more ways than one).

If what you say is true- "He is garbage and if he is the best the republican party can come up with they are in TROUBLE!!!! ", you and your ilk should be rejoycing; However, judging by all the negative posts here, it appears quite the opposite. Here I thought liberals hated and despised labels too... quite the creative labelists they are I must say.

Obviously you opted not to peruse and reply to the links I provided, it's ok and I understand. You're probably too busy looking out the window waiting for a reply in the mail from the president (or personal visit). I'm confident he's taking your advice under consideration and will heed that advice concerning Rush (especially after the latest Dow-Jones numbers). The plan to create more green jobs by recycling worthless stock certificates into toilet paper... great plan.

In the event you suffer from some form of attention/selective reading deficit disorder, just a friendly reminder. Quotes by Rush... bigot and extremist... links in context to support, please? Thanks dear. I'm a very patient and understanding person and will have no problem making this request daily until you comply or mysterious disappear from this topic (through no fault of your own of course).
