As is your right. Please don't treat me condescendingly because I have chosen otherwise.

Some people can't accept choices they don't understand. It's sadly ignorant for grown people to act in such a way.

No. What's sad and ignorant is watching a VistaVision movie on a standard TV set.

No matter how much you polish a turd, it's still a turd.

aaaaaaaaaah I see where we differ NOW.

But honestly if you believe in God Keith, that statement is a slap in the face.

He gave us life as a gift. Not a turd. WE make it that .. if it is.

But you forget, Judy -- God isn't perfect, either. It obviously shows in His work. bigsmile

Totally disagree. He IS perfect .. that's what makes HIM God and WE Man.

The actual definition of the word “Cynic” is described as the person with the pessimistic view of the human nature. Cynicism comes as an adjective of Cynic. It is a phenomenon in which a person is too pessimistic and distrustful towards the nature of any other person around him. This attitude makes him face a psychic disorder in which he thinks the outcome of any event to be negative and negative only

Spoken truly like somebody who doesn't have a clue as to what the f*ck they're talking about, even if it wasn't you who wrote it.

Some people look at life as, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." I prefer to just squirt lemon juice in their eye.

It has nothing to do with not accepting anything. it's about "negative reinforcement"- learning NOT to do something again because of negative experiences. Cynics are just a little more vocal about it.
You misunderstand me, I was merely commenting to Lex that he is right and shouldn't be treated condescendingly because of his choices.

I agree 100% about not doing something again because of a previous negative out come, I just choose not to let it eat me up or be bitter about it. Not to imply that you or anyone in this thread is, but it seems like a lot of cynics end up down that road.

Could it be because of their reactions to repeated negative experiences? LOL

various aspects of a person undergoing such type of cynical disorder. These quotes may be put into words by some of the most famous doctors or psychiatrists who are well aware of the mental states of such people.

A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.
Henry Louis Mencken

Realist

It is only the cynicism that is born of success that is penetrating and valid.
George Jean Nathan

A cynic is a man who looks at the world with a monocle in his mind's eye.
Carolyn Wells

Monocles are highly underestimated!

I am a hopeful cynic
Tracy Chapman

Wow, this thread comes w/ a free diagnosis? Don't remember filling out any forms, nor signing a thing. Huh! Thanx?

You've a different dictionary than mine reads. At least a couple of the quotes back cynicism up, as an earned stripe from the battlefields.

Cynicism
a Greek philosophy of the 4th century B.C. advocating the doctrines that virtue is the only good, that the essence of virtue is self-control and individual freedom, and that surrender to any external influence is beneath the dignity of man.

As I stated earlier, life isn't fair, but it isn't fair for EVERYONE, not just the people who seem to think the world is against them.

I hardly think the world is against me. I play the cards which have been dealt to me, and I play an honest game. Just like Vegas, the odds of the house usually winning are greatly stacked in their favor. Because of this, I know what to expect and how to deal with it, because it rarely (if ever) changes.

Is there a correlation to cynicism and being able to peg the playas and not really wanting to play that game????huh

Tell me now or forever

Well then cheers to you... all we can do is try, some people give up trying because they think the house will always win and theres no hope for any other out come.

Again... those aren't cynics. Those are whiners with self-pity.

In certain cases the 2 can be synonymous.

Not exactly. Whiners with self-pity say, "Woe is me... woe is me...". Cynics say, "I'll never do THAT again...". bigsmile

Moof, you can try to argue with me all day if that makes you feel better but I'm really just voicing my opinion here.

Hhmmmmm.... my thoughts...

well you can all be cynical or guarded or have up your walls or whatever you call it for so long. There will be effects such as mental health, physical health, or spiritual health. Or you will lose out on a chance, and have no clue that you did, because you will feel in all circumstances that you did right. Being cynical leaves out room for self-evaluation which is crucial in life.

Is that two cents worth?
